The Sustainability Forum was borne from the recognition of a need to create a platform where key stakeholders in the local government sector could come together to engage on how to improve and ensure the financial sustainability of municipalities. Municipalities are at the forefront of implementation of government policy and are a key point of interface between government and communities, as well as local businesses. As we have seen in recent years in our country, it is municipalities that are the first to bear the brunt of perceived failures in service delivery and many other causes of community disgruntlement. Sitting at the centre of this relationship matrix involving government, business and communities has seen municipal management become increasingly complex over the years, with success resting primarily on the financial decisions that the municipality makes. Sustainability Forum 2014 is designed to enable all stakeholders with an interest in the financial sustainability of municipalities to engage on key issues relating to municipalities; such as, good governance, ethics, business leadership, data systems, credit control, metering, IT infrastructure, communication, road safety and property valuation. Exhibitors will also showcase modern technologies that are relevant to municipalities. Thought leaders and experts in various sectors will be in attendance, as well as government representatives, municipal managers, chief financial officers, town planners, water & electricity utility companies, road traffic authorities, academics and consultants, amongst others. A number of municipalities from other parts of Africa will also be represented. Syntell: 2014 Platinum Sponsor

Following the success of last year’s Sustainability Forum that was held at the Hyatt Hotel in Rosebank in Johannesburg, Syntell has renewed its platinum sponsorship for Sustainability Forum 2014. Sustainability Forum 2014 is designed to enable all stakeholders with an interest in the financial sustainability of municipalities to engage on key issues relating to municipalities; such as, good governance,

ethics, business leadership, data systems, credit control, metering, IT infrastructure, communication, road safety and property valuation.

INTEGRATED ROAD ASSET MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS (RAMS)

Background of iTES?The iTES system is a spatially orientated web based management system that has been developed to cater for the management and engineering requirements of Departments across all spheres of government, as well as those of private organisations. The system offers a central repository for all assets (including roads) managed by the organisation using a Google integrated GIS map as the base for all displays. This ensures integration of the many management systems being used by various role players into a single web based management portal.

Major iTES client baseiTES is utilised by the following Departments:• Free State Department of Police, Roads & Transport

since 1996• Northern Cape Department of Roads and Public Works

since 1996

• Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department since 2013 – In excess of 160 000 crashes per annum are processed by the iTES system

• Limpopo Department of Public Works, Roads & Infrastructure

What is iTES?iTES is a locally developed and supported web based management tool that transforms basic programme and project management data into management information.

What iTES offers? The importance of Road and Infrastructure Asset Management Systems is vital and indispensable for the management of any Government Department or private organisation. The iTES system consist of modules that manages all the legislated RAMS modules and is the ideal tool to use for the monitoring, management and reporting of road and infrastructure projects.

Syntell offers fully integrated road asset management systems (RAMS), namely iTES, which has been locally developed since 1996.

TRADINGUP

GIVINGBACK

City of Cape TownSyntell has successfully provided new technologies and products to aid the City of Cape Town’s Traffic Signals Department and Intelligent Transportation Department with their traffic flow challenges. The Sensys Networks Magnetometer System has been adopted as the preferred technology for use in the existing adaptive traffic control system, whilst the FLIR Wireless TrafiCam has been adopted for use on the Bus Rapid Transit lanes.

Johannesburg Roads AgencyFollowing on from the recent tender award for vehicle detection technologies and some strategic marketing, Syntell has subsequently received two large orders for Sensys Networks Magnetometer, and FLIR Wireless TrafiCam detector equipment.

We believe our sales footprint of detector equipment will continue to grow over the coming months.

Stellenbosch Smart Mobility Lab (SMML)We are pleased to announce our sponsorship of this “incubator” ITS (Integrated Traffic Systems) laboratory established in the Civil Engineering department at Stellenbosch University.  Our sponsorship consists of the new MX Traffic Controller, Swarco Futurit LED signal heads & FLIR TrafiCam virtual loop sensors.  The SMML was launched on 26th June 2014 with the event attended by leading academics, board members from ITS South Africa , representatives from Cape Town’s transport department and the media.

After visiting Musenga Vhadzimu Primary School in Diepsloot, north of Johannesburg to oversee a scholar patrol project, Syntell Foundation Head, Mishack Mahlangu was approached by one of the teachers who highlighted to him that one of the major plights faced by the pupils at the school was the shortage of furniture.

Mr Mahlangu visited one of the classrooms where he found pupils sitting on the floor, with their books spread open in front of them.

Moved to act by what he saw, Mr Mahlangu got back to the office and put in place a process that culminated with Syntell donating 50 double desks and 100 chairs to the school.

The occasion was attended by a key stakeholder in the form of the JMPD, led by Sergeant Linda Moganedi. Principal at the school, Rose Segale was pleased with the donation, remarking that it made a very big difference to the children’s ability to learn.
