Inkwell Stamps news

We are very excited that we are now producing online

magazines – it gives us an opportunity to show you what we are

doing and we would really like our readers to contribute their

ideas and show us how they are using our stamps.

We are also really pleased that have one of our compilation

sets is featured in Issue 19 of the Creative Stamping magazine

– the Snow Globe set. We have selected elements of the set to

make 5 completely different cards. The magazine is in the

shops now.

Our favourite non-stamp items

The Tonic nested ovals, a mix of plain and scalloped edges.

You will see them being used in the card samples.

We also like the magnetic shims that come with many of the

dies nowadays. Use them to keep the dies in position - they

even emboss for you at the same time – but make sure that you

don’t put the dies cut side down on them.

Our favourite techniques

Gill: I love to create and enhance background papers.

Whenever I buy a pack of papers there are always some that

seem a little too plain for me. These are brilliant to stamp on, or

just add glitter – have a look at the example on page 8.

Les: making frames from dies – especially when you make

reverse frames – all will explained in Issue 2 .

Our second competition is down to you

Using any of our Christmas stamps as the main feature for your card, we are looking for original designs that we can share with our subscribers. Again, first prize is a £50 voucher to spend on our stamps’, second prize is a £20 voucher to spend on our stamps.

The rules are simple: 1 Only one design may be submitted per entrant and you must use an

Inkwell Stamps Christmas stamp design as your main feature. 2 Your card must be original and must not have been published in any

magazine or previously featured. 3 Each entry must include the entrants name and contact address. 4 The entrant agrees to their card, their name and their home town being

used by Inkwell Stamps for the Winter (Issue 2) magazine and website. 5 Designs should be submitted in the form of a JPEG image (300dpi,

maximum file size 2kb). The entrant takes responsibility for the quality of the electronic submission.

6 The deadline for submissions is midnight 30th November 2014, with the winners being announced on December 7th 2014.

7 The judges will be selected by Inkwell Stamps and the judges’ decision is final.

Materials used: A4 pink card Pink glitter card Pink heart background paper White card Versamark embossing pad Wow powders – superfine gold Various glues

1. Cut a piece of pink card 22.0 x 15.0 cm

wide and fold in half. Place the largest (14.0 cm) oval die so that it overhangs the folded edge, ensuring that the die is horizontal. This will create the top fold for the card. Cut out the card blank.

2. Cut out the remaining ovals as follows Glitter card 1 oval 14.0 cm wide

1 oval 10.5 cm wide Background 1 oval 13.0 cm wide White card 1 oval 9.5 cm wide Then cut 2 lengths of the heart border

3. Using versamark, stamp the design onto the white oval, sprinkle with the gold embossing powder and heat emboss.

4. Matt and layer the ovals. If you have difficulty sticking paper/card to glitter card then try using silicone gel – it will take longer to dry but does seem to work.

5. Attach the layers to the base card ensuring that the fold is at the top and the scalloped edge is matched up. Note, the top section of the large glitter oval will overhang the fold of the base card.

6. You will need to trim the 2 pieces of heart border to fit the oval. Do this at the full heart sections as this will make the design easier to attach to the card. Carefully ease the border into curves – one clockwise, one anticlockwise.

7. Start by attaching the top heart to the centre top of the stamped design and carefully work it around to the bottom middle. Repeat with the other piece in the opposite direction to complete the card.

Materials used: White 15.0 cm square card blank Gold, red and white card Versamark embossing pad Wow powders – superfine gold and clear Promarker pens – red, green and orange Quickie glue pen Holographic glitter Various glues

1. Using the gold card cut a piece 14.0 x

14.0 cm and an oval10.5 cm wide. Attach the large square piece to the white base card, and using the quickie glue pen, carefully go around the edge of the gold card then sprinkle with the holographic glitter.

2. Using the red card cut a piece 13.5 x

13.5 cm. Using versamark, stamp the image 4 times placing the images as close as possible the corners. Sprinkle with the clear embossing powder and heat emboss. When cooled attach to the gold card that is already attached to the base card.

3. Using the white card cut out an oval 9.5 cm wide. Using versamark, stamp the image in the centre of the oval. Sprinkle with the gold embossing powder and heat emboss.

4. Colour in the design as follows:

Green – waistcoat, mistletoe and holly Red – hats and berries on holly Orange – beak and feet

5. Using the quickie glue fill in the

bobbles and edges of the hats, and sprinkle with the holographic glitter.

6. Attach the design to the gold oval.

7. Attach this to the base card.

I love using background papers but in every pack there are always some that just don’t appeal to me. In the past these would have been ignored and over time got a bit tatty, but no longer – I now stamp on them, or glitter them up and even add gemstones. Have a look at the following example:

This background paper is not the sort of colour that I would usually use, the muted browns are nice, but I wouldn’t initially associate this paper with snowflakes.

Using the large snowflake from our Snow Globe compilation set, a versamark pad and WOW embossing powder – holographic gold, I stamped and embossed random snowflakes.

I then added a gemstone to the centre of each stamped snowflake. This could now be mounted on gold mirri card and attached to a white base card for a simple and elegant Christmas card, or used as a much more luxurious background. So get out your previously unloved background papers and rethink how you could use them!
