GILL RED ANGUS GUARANTEEAll bulls that are in good breeding condition at the beginning of the first breeding season are guaranteed breeders. This does not include any injury. Any bull that settles one third or more of the healthy cows he services or passes a fertility test made by a competent veterinarian during the first six months after the sale date is considered a good breeder. All claims for adjustment or refund must be made within six months of sale date. All bulls returned must be in good and healthy condition. Any bulls given a fertility test within the first six months after the sale date will be at the buyer’s expense. All bulls are guaranteed to be breeders, however, no guarantee is given that the semen collected from a bull will freeze.

Our slogan is “You buy our bulls and we will bid on your calves.” This has really helped our customers on selling day. We ran some calves up as much as $5 per hundredweight. You add that up on a load of 600-pound steers, and you made an extra $2,500 just by being our customer. Compare that to our sale average the last couple years - that’s a free bull. How can you go wrong?

Here is how it works: First you must be a Gill Red Angus customer. At marketing time, contact Gill Red Angus with the marketing option you wish to pursue: •Complete Retained Ownership •Partial/Partnership Retained Ownership •Livestock Auction or Off-the-Farm Marketing - Sell 100% of your calves off-the-farm or at the stockyards and a Gill staff member will be there to place a bid on them for you. •Replacement Heifer Marketing - Market your top-quality open and bred heifers through our annual production sales in February. Hello Ranchers,

What a year! For most of us it started out dry and we didn’t know quite what to do, as the dams were empty and the grass wasn’t

doing much. Then on May 16 it started to rain, and rain, and rain! At the ranch headquarters, we had 8 inches of rain the second

half of May. On a lease west of us they had over a foot, and another lease north of Mobridge, it was just under a foot. Talk about

changing the season, as the attitudes, the grass, and the dams were all on overload. June was a bit drier for us. Then from July all the

way through October, we had from 5 to 7 inches of rain every month, with a total of 33 inches from May 16 to November 1. Because

of this, the hay, grass, and crops were outstanding in our area.

As you all know, the cattle market is on fire! Remember a few years back when Red Angus calves took the back seat in the markets?

After several years of hard work by the commercial industry, the National Red Angus office, the Red Angus seed stock producers,

and the feeders who took a chance when they purchased Red Angus feeder calves or replacement heifers, the markets have now

changed. Red Angus steers and replacement heifers do not take a back seat anymore. The steers are in high demand, and the

replacement heifers are setting records all over the country. I was asked this fall what the replacement heifers are going to bring. I

took a guess and said steer price to $10/cwt higher. I never dreamed you wouldn’t be able to buy a 5 weight heifer in November and

December for less than $1200, some as high as $1500, in South Dakota and Nebraska! We have never had so many phone calls from

ranchers all across the U.S looking to buy Red Angus replacement heifers. I expect these prices to get even stronger throughout the

winter and into the spring.

We have purchased several thousand of our bull customers calves again this fall and winter, either on order or for ourselves. In doing

so, we have discovered a couple things. First, good cattle are easy to move. We never get a call from a feeder wanting average cattle.

Second, these feeders become quite loyal. If they find a set of calves that stay healthy, go to feed easily, and gain what they are asked

to gain over the winter, the feeder will be back again next year. Once you develop a reputation, good or bad, it sticks with you. Let

us help you develop the kind of reputation you deserve. If you get a minute sale day, visit with a few of the ranchers who have a top

reputation, and ask them how a good reputation can make you money. When a reputation herd sells their calves, our phone lines

light up.

Each spring we look at the cows, sort out anything that is a bit harder keeping or has an udder that is a little tipped but yet are still

good cows and sell them as commercial bred cows in the fall (about 20% of our cow herd). We have been doing this now for six years.

We strongly believe that if we are helping our customers develop the kind of reputation they deserve and if they are selling these

high dollar replacement heifers, then our cow herd can’t have any holes in it. This has made a huge difference in our cow type, as our

cows are very easy keeping, really sound, loaded with performance, and have good udders. It is fun to go through our cow herd as

they are always in excellent body condition. We hope that this hard work and high quality is carrying through to all of you as well.

The bulls this winter have done excellent and look great. We develop them to be sound, athletic, and to hold their condition for their

new owners. When we do ranch visits over the summer, it is evident to us that this is working. We do not feed any extra grains to the

bulls. Their diet consists of oatlage and corn silage; we grind oat hay and corn stalks and add distillers and a liquid mineral to the diet.

We mix it up in a TMR and they are at a .43 mCal diet over most of the winter. They have been gaining from 2.5 lbs to 3 lbs a day with

this ration. We have gone through the bulls several times, sorted off the lower quality ones and got rid of them. We do everything

we can to make sure the quality is outstanding for you. We realize that our customers won’t get a premium for average cattle.

Dan and Tara are from Merriman, NE, which is in the NW corner of the Nebraska Sandhills. They have been buying bulls from us for several years. They run a real good herd of Red Angus cows and through us have developed a relationship with a couple different buyers who take their steers and heifers every fall right off the cow. They get a premium for their calves as the steer buyer knows the quality and health are at the top. The heifer buyer also pays him a premium and breeds the heifers every year and in turn, sells them as bred heifers the following year. Dan knows cattle, and he will give you an honest opinion on the bulls. He is honest and does business the old fashion way, by his word.

Hoss lives in Missouri and has an impressive resume when it comes to the ranching industry. He managed a Red Angus ranch in Missouri for several years, and this is when we got to know him. He was then offered a position as the Commercial Marketing Director for the National Red Angus Association and worked there for several years, developing a great reputation across the industry, from feeders to packers, to seed stock breeders to commercial ranchers. He has since left the Red Angus office and is now a Superior Rep marketing cattle all across the U.S. This past fall we began working with Hoss, in which he marketed several groups of our customer’s calves through Superior. Clint has also built a great reputation with commercial ranchers across the country as having a great eye for bulls and for being honest. He will gladly look at the bulls and give you an honest opinion and help you buy your bulls if you can’t make it sale day.

Cheramie lives in TX and has an impressive reputation and resume. She was responsible for ranch promotions and advertising for the famous Camp Cooley Ranch in TX. She was then hired on as Cow Manager for Silver Spur Ranches, which runs on more than 400,000 acres. She now works as a consultant for Silver Spur and 6 different ranches across the country. Through Cheramie, we have purchased several different bull customers replacement heifers this fall and winter and sent them into NE to Summit Farms. They will be bred and sold as bred heifers next fall. Cheramie has a reputation for having one of the best eyes in the industry. All the heifers we have purchased for her has been a verbal agreement only and everything has been done as she said it would be. Feel comfortable working with Cheramie, if you have questions about any of the bulls.

Jennifer lives in Billings, MT where she is the General Manager of the N.I.L.E. She has also earned herself quite the reputation across the industry. We first got to know Jennifer when she was Director of Communications for the National Red Angus Association. She traveled to Red Angus events, bull sales, and commercial calf sales and got to know several ranchers in both the seed stock and commercial industry. She has also been the Mountain States Circuit Director for the WPRA from 2011 to 2013. Jennifer started young in the cattle industry as her father owns Altenburg Super Baldy Simmentals and is the Associate Vice President of Beef Marketing for Genex. Needless to say, she also has a real good eye for cattle and would be more than glad to help you appraise the bulls if you can’t make it to the sale.

Patrick lives about 10 miles away from us and has grown up in the ranching industry. He and his family own a large ranch where they run commercial Angus cows. Along with ranching, his family also owns and operates a custom feedlot, and a farming operation where they raise their feed for their cows and feedlot. Patrick’s responsibility is the cow herd. Along with this, Patrick has started his own order buying business where he purchases several thousand feeder calves, replacement heifers, and seed stock throughout the year. He has done a super job buying high quality cattle and continues to gain the trust of progressive ranchers and feeders across the country. Patrick knows the good ones and will be happy to come over and have a look at the bulls and give you an honest opinion if you can’t make it sale day.

We decided to start off our 2014 annual bull sale with this good Miles Ahead son who came out under 80 lbs, and weaned off 700+. When you look at him, he is very complete from top to bottom, front to back. His dam is a first calf heifer out of LMG Gills Heavens Door 8648. With her first calf she has earned herself a 102 MPPA and this year’s calf will no doubt raise that number. He scanned great as well, as he is right at an inch of REA/cwt and has a 138 ratio for marbling. The first one is usually the sleeper of the sale, don’t let him slip by!

We also take the bottom 20% of our cowherd and sell them every December. We raise the bulls with the goal of developing them to their max potential, while keeping them sound and fertile. Our cows must be easy fleshing, sound made, fertile, and have real good udders on them. No exceptions! She is an extremely deep bodied, easy fleshing cow with an awesome udder and has a 106 MPPA. Lot 2 weaned off huge and will give you some added pay weight come sale day. He is real thick made and deep bodied. These Vin Diesel sons have been very well accepted over the years. He is now 7 years old and looks great, as he is as sound as he was as a calf. His feet look great, and still walks like a cat. His dam is the great Roxie 1080, who has raised both herd sires and donor cows.

Then his carcass is great as well, as he has a 114 ratio for Marbling and a 118 ratio for REA, while having 1.18 square inches of rib eye per cwt. His dam is a great cow and always maintains her body condition and is real deep bodied while having a 105 MPPA. So if you like to sell those calves that really push down the scale and go on and perform for the feeder and grade at the top, then this is the one you are looking for.

2076 is another good Embryo transplant bull who is also sired by the famous Mulberry 26P bull who probably has more champions in the ring than any other bull in the history of the breed. That doesn’t mean much in the commercial world, but he isn’t a typical show bull. His calves are sound, have good feet, make great cows, and have a lot of eye appeal. Remember, eye appeal has never hurt you when it’s time to market you calves.

We have been using this Red Dawg line now for several years and we have done it for a couple reasons. First, we have never found another line that adds more muscle, bone, and style in the Red Angus breed as this line does. Here is the first Ignition son in the sale. When we were in Denver at the National Western Stock Show a few years ago, we found this bull in the Northline Angus lineup and really liked him. He was 18 months old at the time, moderate framed, extremely deep bodied, and thick. He was really impressive, so we purchased a semen package on him. The nice thing about having these 2 year old bulls around is if a Feb or March born bull gets sick, or limps, or something else is wrong and gets behind a bit, we will just pull them from the yearlings and throw them in with the group that we hold over and make a 2 year old out of him. That is exactly what happened here, this guy had foot rot on a front leg and instead of canning him when he got behind the group, we put him in with this group and he healed up and grew up great. This good Diamond Back son weaned off real heavy as well. Diamond Back is known for having extra depth of body and thickness in the rear. His sire, Barney, was the same way. This guy is out of a super cow who has a 105 MPPA.

We have always paid a bit more attention to REA size than Marbling. We do this because Angus, Red or Black, naturally have good Marbling and our customers calves already grade in the 80% choice or higher area. Most of our customers don’t do much for cross breeding, as they have been breeding Red Angus to Red Angus year in and year out. So we need to make sure we have the REA size needed so our feedlot customers don’t get docked by the packer in the end. This guy has the REA size needed, as he measures 1.21 square inches of REA/cwt. The industry says at kill time they need to have at least 1 inch of REA/cwt. As you can see, bulls like this will really improve the REA size on some frailer made Angus cows.

This good Grand Statement son has a huge REA. Check out this guy who measured 1.31 square inches of REA/cwt! That’s amazing since industry demands 1 inch, which makes this guy 1/3 bigger than what they demand. He will improve a lot of frail made cows in a hurry. Now, take a look at his big weaning weight of 760 lbs!!! When I look at the pedigree, I understand why the stars lined up on this one. His maternal grand sire is none other than the great WR Mr. Red Dawg 5335, while his grand sire is Tassel Executive. When we calve out our May and June born calves we put them in a 1120 acre pasture, we ride horseback on them every morning, to weigh and tag them. We never have to help one calve or nurse. Our calves are shaped correct, as they come out long made, and within a couple minutes they are up sucking. The cows are wintered on saved grass and they are not fed, unless the snow gets to thick and frozen over. We stockpiled a couple hundred bales up near where they are wintered, and there are still a couple hundred bales sitting there that is now 3 years old. The only extra feed they get is year round salt and mineral, and then later in the third trimester, we put Anipro out for them (liquid protein). It is bred into these cow to know how to fend for themselves. No pampering done around here! Check this guy out, he is real classy, deep and thick. He is one of the better Diesel sons in the sale. This guy got a touch of foot rot as a calf on grass and was set back, once we cleaned him up, he took off and never looked back. His has done great over the summer and this winter, and I know you will like him.

WOW, take a look at this REA of 1.39 square inches of REA/cwt. To put that in perspective, when we purchased Red Dawg, he was the largest actual Rib Eye bull the breed has ever seen, and he measured 1.27 square inches of REA/cwt. Now his REA was a lot bigger, (measured 20.5 inches) but he also weighed 1600 lbs at ultrasound time.

Here is one of the heaviest weaned off calves in our history and yet only has an 84 lbs weaning weight!!! These Diamond Back sons can really pack a punch, and this guy proves it!!!

We have a pile of these Grand Statement sons, and they all weaned off heavy! Take this guy for example, he weighed 713 lbs at weaning. Not many calves come to market in the fall weighing over 600 lbs, yet a good majority of these bulls are over 700 with some even in 800+ lbs. We do not creep the bulls, but we do cull real hard and get rid of anything that doesn’t do what we are trying to do. Good genetics pay for themselves!!!

2609 is a top 9906 son out of a real nice OHRR Dakota Rambler 75R daughter. The 75R daughters are good uddered high producing cows, and this 703 lbs weaning weight proves it.

This is exactly why we used Victory on a big group of cows this past summer. We AI’d a bunch of heifers to him, then he was with 40 head of February and March calving cows, and then close to 40 head of May and June calving cows. We really like what we are seeing out of him and are hoping to get a pile of calves the next few years out of him. If we can get a big group of sons and daughters out of him that are born from 70 to 80 lbs at birth and wean off like this guy, everyone will be happy. His sons don’t really look like the typical calving ease bull either, they have more muscle than most and way more performance too. But I believe his strong point will be his heifers when they get into production. The bull never looses any weight at all, and is a favorite to most who see him.

We have had a few customers ask us if we could raise a few half blood Red Angus X Simmental bulls, so we decided to try it. After several phone calls and visits with people who know a lot more about Simmental than we do, we chose the Rushmore bull from ABS. We wanted a deep sided, easy fleshing bull with natural muscle to compliment the cows we were going to use them on. We are real happy with the results. This guy looks just like a higher performing Red Angus bull. You wouldn’t have any idea he is a half-blood if we didn’t tell you. I can see where a bull like this would work on several different commercial programs where they have been breeding Red Angus to Red Angus for years. You could use a ½ blood bull like this on your purebred commercial cows and put a touch of highbred vigor into your calves and the calves would still look like a purebred Red Angus. I am excited about the possibilities with a bull like this for our customers. He is a thick made bull with loads of middle, length, and power. His dam is a great cow who is a maternal sister to Dynette 3041, and a full sister to the herd sire LMG Gills Widespread 6800. Great genetics all the way around with this guy.

We have had several calves over the last few years that go back to Brylor Pasquole, and we have been real happy with the results. 3601 is double bred Pasquole. This is a full brother to Lot 116 from last year who sold to Ron Opheim for $9000. He was an awesome bull, and this guy is too. 3607 was our favorite bull calf at weaning time. His dam is a great calf raising cow as she has a 106 MPPA. He is just a little nervous, not bad, but we just want you to know that we noticed it over the winter.

This guy has a lot of eye appeal and length who goes back to the good Brylor Squall bull. This guy has a super pedigree and looks the same.

This good Lancer son is a direct son of the famous Blackanna 880 cow who is one of Feddes Red Angus all-time best cows. She will be 16 years old this spring and is still doing an outstanding job. Retaining ¼ semen interest in all 4 bulls.We have quite the opportunity here for you. First off, these 4 bulls are all full embryo brothers. The dam is the great LMG Miss Dynette 3041, who has done more for our program than any other cow or bull we have ever had or used. She is a gorgeous cow, with a great sound made udder, extremely easy fleshing, with great feet and legs under her. I just can’t say enough about this cow, as her offspring will improve any herd in the country! Packer has left his mark across the breed as well, always stamping the same good looks into his calves. The EPD’s for these bulls are outstanding and can help take you to the next level. If I was a commercial rancher, trying to improve my cow herd, I would wait for these 4 bulls and buy as many as you need. There isn’t much of a better way to improve what you have than by using the best genetics possible, and here is your opportunity to get multiple full brothers! Lot 174 had a touch of pinkeye on grass this summer. He has been treated and is over it. But he does have a spot in his eye. When we took videos of Lot 175, we noticed this guy was a little nervous. If you handle your cattle on foot or have small kids around the cattle, you may not want this guy. But if you are in big country and handle on a horse. Just turn him with the rest of your bulls and he will be fine.

At weaning time we sorted by frame size and put the larger frame bulls in the first pen and the smaller ones in the second. Over the winter they have grown and matured. We are real excited about the next 37 bulls. These guys are REALLY uniform, stout, and good. We have never had the last bunch of bulls in our sale be this good before. Make sure you walk back and look at these bulls, several are good enough to be in the front pen at several other bull sales around the country.

3649 is an exciting bull to me. His grand dam is still in production and is 20 years old! Talk about stay power!!!He is a tested free OS bull which makes him even more exciting as his maternal grandsire is the great Grand Canyon bull who has some of the absolutely best daughters in the industry.

We purchased the dam to this guy in a package of embryos from Atkinson Red Angus a few years back. I have really liked her all the way through. She is very attractive and her first calf will pay for that package of eggs. This good bull is out of an embryo transplant daughter of the great Dynette 3041. The sire is the good calving ease Lancer bull. Check out the weights of 75 lbs at birth and 690 lbs at weaning! This calf was not registered when we made the catalog, but will be by sale day. So the weights were adjusted by us and not the association. They may not be exactly the same after the association adjusts the weaning weight to 205 day, but it will be close. The EPDs are parental averages. They may also be a bit different after they get him registered, but again, they will be similar.

Here is another 700+ lbs weaning weight. These cows that do it year after year are exactly what we are looking for, and last year we sold a maternal brother for $6000. We also sold a maternal sister to Hickory Hill Farms Red Angus last spring for $6000. When we took videos, we noticed this guy was a little nervous.
