What is sustainability?

Sustainability is based on a simple principle: Everything that we need for our survival and well-being depends, either directly or indirectly, on our natural environment.

Sustainability creates and maintains the conditions under which humans and nature can exist in productive harmony, that permit fulfilling the social, economic and other requirements of present and future generations.

NORTH MODEL• Natural forest, slow growing, between 200 to 500 trees per hectare (~ 150 trees per acre).• “Pine Tapper” = a worker producing pine oleoresin by his/her own. • Sales price of pine oleoresin to the gum rosin plant highly dependant of labor cost.

Pine trees are natural fromthe Northern Hemisphere.

SOUTH MODEL• Planted forest, selected seedlings, fast growing, between 800 to 1.100 trees per hectare (~

400 trees per acre).• Pine Tapping Co., workers trained and with a production based salary complaying with local

laws.

Pine trees are planted in the Southern Hemisphere.
