Introducing the Varsity Life Account

In August, HUECU launched the new Varsity Life Account, a check-

ing account specifically designed for the teenage children (ages

13-17) of HUECU members1. The Varsity Life Account allows teens

to develop important money management skills, while also main-

taining parental access to their accounts.

The Varsity Life Account Features:

• Free Checking Account with

Debit Card

• Free interest-earning Savings

Account

• Optional Club Savings Account

for additional savings goals

To open a Varsity Life Account, parents must first establish a

membership for their teen by opening a Share Savings Account

on which they are a joint owner1. They will then add a Varsity Life

Checking Account to the new membership.

The Varsity Life Checking Account comes with an HUECU Debit

MasterCard® with a limit of $300. It also features unlimited free

ATM transactions and refunds up to $10 per month for surcharges

from other financial institutions. A free starter pack of checks is

also available by request. Open a Varsity Life Account today at any

huecu.org 1. HUECU requires a minor to have a joint account owner (residing at the same address) who will be jointly liable for any returned item, overdraft or unpaid charges and/or fees. A link may be established to the Share Savings Account or a Joint Owner’s Checking or Share Savings Account enabling pre-authorized overdraft protection. Coming Soon: EMV Chip Credit Cards

Foreign Currency Exchange

HUECU now offers more than 80 different foreign currencies to

members for their travel purposes. We will also buy back any un-

used foreign currency (paper only) once you return from your trip.

Travelers should have multiple payment options available while

they are abroad. Credit and debit cards are useful tools for pur-

chasing goods and services, but local currency is indispensable for

tips, transportation needs, small meals, and other casual purchases.

Save time and avoid security risks by arriving at your destination

prepared.

Beginning in December, every new

HUECU Credit Card will include

the enhanced security of an

EMV chip. EMV technology

features an embedded microchip

that makes it extremely difficult

to copy a card, should it be lost

or stolen, better protecting

cardholders from many types of fraud.

How Does It Work?

EMV chips are enhanced by providing dynamic data that cannot be

known to someone who steals your card or your card number. It’s

the most fraud-resistant payment method you can use.

Where Are EMV Cards Accepted?

The new EMV cards can be used anywhere MasterCard is accepted.

If a merchant is not yet utilizing EMV chip technology, the transac-

tion will be processed using the magnetic strip on the back. The ad-

ditional security benefits of the EMV cards will be realized anywhere

the technology has been adopted. EMV chip technology is already

prevalent outside of the United States; however, many U.S. mer-

chants are still in the process of updating their payment terminals.

When Will EMV Cards Be Issued?

Beginning in December, all new cards will include the EMV chip.

When existing credit cards are reissued, they will be replaced with

an EMV-enabled card. Once the new cards are available, the Credit

Union will also be able to accommodate replacements by request.
