IntroductionWellness and management training are an important component of an Employee Assistance Program (EAP). By offering training services, your organization not only helps promote EAP services, but can also equip its employees with skills to proactively enhance their personal wellness and organizational productivity.

Our employee workshops are structured to be one hour in length, while management trainings are structured for two hours in length. Each workshop uses a combination of lecture, handouts, and group activity or discussion to accomplish learning goals.

Making a RequestTo request a workshop, contact your account manager at 1.800.433.7916. Please give three to four weeks notice when making a request. Workshops provided in excess of those included within your organization’s EAP con-tract will be billed at an hourly rate. Although we make every attempt to customize our workshops based upon client need, some requests may be subject to additional fees.

Building Self-Esteem in Children Many studies have shown that children with low self-esteem are at higher risk for poor school achievement or alcohol/drug abuse. This workshop will introduce participants to age appropriate stages of child development, and provide practi-cal tips to help their child develop a positive self-esteem.

Balancing Work and Home LifeThis workshop will review common challenges employees experience main-taining work-life balance in today’s busy world. Participants will complete a brief 15 question quiz and be provided with practical tips to achieve better work- life balance.

Children of Divorce Nearly 50% of marriages end in divorce, and when handled poorly, divorce can have a damaging impact on children. Studies suggest that children of divorce can also be at higher risk for symptoms of depression, underachievement in school, and an earlier onset of sexual activity or substance use. This workshop will provide participants with information on how children commonly react to parental divorce, and strategies that can help children cope and minimize the negative impact of divorce.

Caring for Aging Parents Providing care for an aging parent can not only feel like an awkward role reversal, but it can also produce care giver fatigue. This workshop will review strategies for “caring without intruding”, alternatives to nursing homes, and tips for enhanc-ing communication and self care. A review of available EAP resources will also be provided.

Discipline That Works This workshop will identify common root causes of misbehavior in children, and provide effective techniques that reinforce positive behavior and foster a sense of independence and self confidence.

Making Relationships Work: Tips for Maintaining a Happy Marriage Maintaining a happy, healthy relationship can be a challenge at times. This work-shop will review some of the essential ingredients of a healthy marriage and pro-vide suggestions on activities that can make your relationship stronger for you and your partner.

Parenting During the Teen Years Adolescence can be a challenging time for both teens and parents. While there is no ultimate instruction book, this workshop will help provide some strategies to assist you in surviving this stage of life and maintain a solid relationship with your teen.

Retirement and YouRetirement preparation should include planning not only for financial security, but also emotional and physical health. This workshop will address some of the common emotional and relationship challenges that can face individuals during retirement, and provide participants with essential tips for success during this next chapter in life.

Time Management This workshop will review the foundational skills that are necessary to effectively manage your time including goal setting, establishing priorities, dealing with in-terruptions, and managing email and voicemail.

Teens and Substance Abuse: What Every Parent Should Know Most children are exposed to drugs and alcohol at an early age. This workshop is designed to teach participants strategies for talking to children about alcohol and drug use, and how to spot common warning signs that a child might be involved in drugs or alcohol related activities.

When Love Hurts: Understanding Domestic ViolenceDomestic violence is a widespread problem in our society, but unfortunately those suffering often do so in silence and secrecy. This workshop will address the dynamics of power and control that underlie domestic violence, and provide suggestions for how to support someone who is trying to cope with or leave a violent relationship.

Budgeting When There Isn’t Enough Money This workshop will provide tips on how to develop a budget based upon identifying goals, priorities, and planning for future expenses. Practical tips for how to reduce credit card debt and increase savings will also be shared.

Identity TheftThis workshop will address some of the common techniques used by thieves to steal your identity, and practical tips to help you minimize your risk.

Protecting Your Credit Score This workshop will explain what every consumer should know about their credit score. Learn how to build an A+ credit history, dispute errors, and ob-tain a free copy of your credit report.

Psychology of MoneyResearch shows that when making spending decisions, we base our decisions on emotion rather than logic. This workshop will review what meaning we attach to money and how it influences our ability to be a good money manager.

Ten Steps to Financial HealthAchieving financial health takes disciple and planning. This workshop will review important strategies to achieve financial health such as paying down debt, planning for retirement, creating a savings account for emer-gency expenses, and creating a budget.

Coping with Depression: When The Blues Don’t Go AwayOver 15% of North Americans struggle with depression, making this one of the most commonly diagnosed health conditions. This workshop will address some of the common causes and symptoms of depression, and provide help-ful guidelines for treatment of mild, moderate, and severe depression.

Diabetes PreventionParticipants will learn how to distinguish between pre-diabetes and diabetes, and how important lifestyle changes related to diet and nutrition can delay or prevent the development of diabetes and its complications.

Eating Your Way to HealthPortion control is an important component of maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Learn how you can make a difference with your weight, blood sugar, choles-terol, and blood pressure through proper food choices and portion control.

Foods That Prevent Heart Disease This workshop will review 10 foods that can reduce your risk of heart disease by lowering your cholesterol and reducing inflammation.

Journey Through Grief and LossGrief is a natural response to any loss, no matter how big or small. This work-shop will review the five stages of grief, and provide effective strategies for coping with grief.

Mind-Body Connection Current research suggests that many emotional health concerns occur at a higher rate in individuals also diagnosed with heart disease, diabetes, hy-pertension, or obesity. This workshop will explore the importance of taking a more holistic approach toward wellness by addressing both physical and mental health concerns through the use of diet, exercise, and positive think-ing strategies.

Sleep WellMillions of Americans suffer from some type of sleep disturbance. This work-shop will provide an overview of sleep disorders and the physical and emo-tional consequences associated with sleep deprivation, including key com-ponents of proper sleep hygiene.

Smoking CessationSmoking is a powerful addiction. The key to becoming smoke free is to devel-op a personal quit plan prior to your quit date. This workshop will discuss the key components of a five step quit plan that can help participants become smoke free for life.

Stress Resiliency: The Five CsWhile frequent and unrelenting stress can compromise our emotional and physical health, stress is not always avoidable. This workshop will review five characteristics that can help promote stress resiliency. Participants will be provided an opportunity to assess their own stress resiliency, and will be given practical tips for how to apply these concepts in their per-sonal and professional life.

Substance Abuse Education Nearly 10% of Americans struggle with an alcohol or drug problem. This pro-gram is designed to address some of the common myths about substance abuse, and provide participants with information about the most effective treatment options for substance abuse disorders.

Appreciating Workplace Diversity Every employee possesses a unique set of skills and experiences that can serve as both an asset and a source of conflict or misunder-standing in the workplace. This interactive and thought provoking workshop uses activity and small group discussion to encourage participants to think about diversity in a broad context of attitudes, behaviors, and personal characteristics.

Effective Communication SkillsThis foundational workshop is designed to provide participants with skills to become a great communicator. Participants will learn about the essential skills used by effective communicators, and the differences between passive, aggressive, and assertive communica-tion styles. An opportunity for evaluation of a participants commu-nication style will also be provided.

Communication BreakdownCommunication breakdowns are common in the workplace, and with increased reliance on electronic communication, which can be easily misinterpreted only adds to the potential for misunder-standing. This workshop reviews seven common reasons for work-place miscommunication and how to overcome them.

Who Moved My Cheese: Coping with the Stress of ChangeChange is a constant in our lives, both personally and professional-ly. This workshop will introduce participants to common reactions to change, and strategies that can be utilized to thrive during a time of uncertainty.

Compassion FatigueProfessional caregivers who fail to take care of their own personal needs can experience burnout. Those who witness “trauma” in the course of care giving can be at risk for also developing compassion fatigue. This workshop will address the differences between burn-out and compassion fatigue, and provide strategies to improve professional resiliency.

Dealing with Difficult People All of us deal with difficult people from time to time, whether in the workplace, at home, or in your neighborhood. This workshop will explore what makes some people “difficult”, and common communication strategies that can help reduce conflict when interacting with these individuals.

Emotional IntelligenceEmotional Intelligence (EQ) is described as a set of skills that can help individuals identify and manage emotions in themselves and others. EQ, more so than IQ or technical skills, is believed to deter-mine job success. This workshop will introduce participants to the concept of EQ and how it can impact personal and professional success. Provided in either an hour or two hour format, the two hour program will provide participants an opportunity to assess their emotional intelligence skills, review strategies to enhance their EQ. Individual assessment and personal consultation can also be provided for an additional fee.

Foundations of Excellent Customer ServiceWhile most organizations claim to provide excellent customer service, few actually do. This workshop will introduce participants to eight foundational skills of excellent customer service, as well as provide tips and suggestions for managing customer conflict.

Generational Differences For the first time in history, four generations of Americans are working side by side in the workplace. This workshop will explore how some of the common generational differences regarding communication, leadership style, and work-life balance preferences can lead to workplace conflict. Participants will be encouraged to explore how taking a strengths based approach to gener-ational diversity can help an organization tap into the hidden potential of a multigenerational workforce.

Meeting Facilitation SkillsIf your staff meetings are unproductive, get off topic, or include participants that don’t engage in discussion, then this workshop is for you. Learn the foundational skills necessary to facilitate an effective meeting in your place of work.

Public Speaking with Confidence Many individuals feel nervous when speaking in front of a group (whether small or large). This workshop is designed to help individuals learn to manage nerves and apprehension before and during a presentation, while also pro-viding tips to improve verbal and non-verbal delivery of a presentation.

Resolving Workplace Conflict Workplace conflict can be caused by personal stress, personality style, and differing beliefs or goals. Under stress, most people resort to unhealthy methods of resolving differences. This workshop will allow participants to assess their personal style of conflict resolution, and review six strategies for achieving a successful outcome.

Improving Teamwork The quality of team work is a significant factor in determining work-place success and productivity. Based upon best selling author Patrick Lencioni’s book “The Five Dysfunctions of a Team”, this workshop will re-view key components of effective teamwork such as trust, accountabil-ity, and goal setting, and provide participants with strategies to improv-ing team health. Opportunities for facilitated discussion based upon results of a team health assessment or identification of ideal co-work-er traits are available in two and three hour format at an additional cost.

True Colors: Understanding Your Work Style PreferenceThis fun and interactive workshop is designed to help participants learn how differences in personality and temperament can impact workplace relation-ships. Participants will be provided an opportunity to assess their work style temperament using a tool based upon the Meyers Briggs Type Indicator. Fol-lowing a self assessment, a facilitated group discussion will assist participants in identifying strategies to effectively work with other team members.

GLOBAL RELOCATION

Making the Most of Your International Assignment Preparing for an international assignment can be both exciting and over-whelming. This workshop will introduce participants to common reactions experienced during the early stages of an international assignment, and encourage discussion with loved ones in order to develop realistic expecta-tions that can help you thrive during your assignment.

Helping Children Adjust to an International Assignment It’s difficult when children are forced to leave friends and familiar surround-ings behind in order to support their parent’s decision to take an interna-tional assignment. This workshop will explore a variety of strategies to help your children adjust, both physically and emotionally to this transition.

Repatriation For some people, the repatriation process that occurs when an internation-al assignment ends can be just as challenging as the initial move. This work-shop will address common adjustment challenges of repatriation such as decreased employer support, potential loss of status, or helping children return to a place they no longer call home, and provide participants with education and available resources to enhance your coping skills.

Building a High Performance Team Effective teamwork is the product of careful planning and execution. Partici-pants will learn about the five elements of a high performance team, and assess which elements their team possesses. Strategies for improving team health will be reviewed, and active discussion and real life examples for overcoming team dysfunction will be encouraged.

Conflict Resolution Skills for Managers Participants will learn about six common causes of workplace conflict such as a lack of accountability or a perceived lack of trust and respect, and strategies to resolve these conflicts. An opportunity to assess one’s personal conflict resolution style, and discuss scenarios in small group format will also be provided.

What Supervisors Need to Know About Workplace Harassment This 1.5 hour workshop expands upon the employee version by discussing the legal implications of a harassment complaint, and reviewing the supervisor’s re-sponsibility for communicating clear policies and intervening appropriately when workplace harassment concerns are raised.

EAP Supervisor ReferralThis workshop provides an overview of services provided by the Employee Assis-tance Program, placing specific emphasis on how the program can assist super-visors in managing troubled employees. Participants will learn about the three types of EAP referrals, and how the program can be used as a powerful tool to address workplace performance concerns.

Managing Workplace ChangeOrganizations must quickly adapt their practices in order to stay competitive in today’s business environment. When change occurs rapidly or with limited explanation, however, employees are more resistant toward embracing these changes. This workshop provides an overview of common employee reactions to change, and discusses leadership strategies to effectively lead during this time of transition.

Suicide Awareness for ManagersThis workshop reviews common myths and facts about suicide. Managers will be provided information on how mental health professionals assess suicide risk, as well as tips and resources for talking to an at risk employee in the workplace.

Organizational DownsizingThis 1.5 hour workshop will address the impact of corporate downsizing on the organization. Topics covered include survivor guilt, strategies for delivering tough messages, and leadership tips for promoting employee resiliency. While every situation is unique, this session will address some lessons learned by reviewing common mistakes made by employers during the downsizing process.

LEADERSHIP FOUNDATIONS

The Mindset of a Great Leader Using Ken Blanchard’s model of Situational Leadership as a foun-dation, this workshop will review seven qualities of great leaders as identified by recent research and case studies.

Coaching for SuccessEvaluating employee job performance is a common responsibility for most supervisors. Whether this process is met with resistance or embraced as an opportunity for improvement, however, is in large part determined by the supervisor’s approach. This workshop will review the differences between coaching and discipline, and how supervisors can utilize SMART goals to drive performance improve-ment. Participants will also be provided with a list of 10 great coach-ing questions that promote professional development.

Creating an Engaged WorkforceResearch shows that front line supervisors play a critical role in main-taining employee satisfaction and productivity. This two hour work-shop will use the model of Transformational Leadership and theories of psychological motivation as a framework to introduce nine skills that supervisors can use in order to enhance employee engagement.

Developing a Culture of AccountabilitySuccessful organizations recognize that performance goals can’t be achieved in the absence of accountability. This two hour workshop re-views four critical tasks that leaders can utilize to create or enhance a culture of accountability in their organization.

Leading During Times of Crisis A critical incident such as a natural disaster, an industrial accident, or a downsizing can have a profound and lasting impact on the work-force. Because employees look to their leaders for direction during a time of crisis, critical incidents provide leaders with a unique oppor-tunity to enhance employee loyalty and engagement. This workshop will review common employee reactions to a critical incident, and provide leaders with strategies for enhancing employee resiliency. A brief review of how use of the CISM process can mitigate the negative impact of a crisis upon your workforce will also be provided.

Preventing Workplace HarassmentThis workshop provides an overview of workplace harassment, com-mon behaviors to avoid, and employee/employer responsibilities for maintaining a positive work environment. Differences in gender com-munication styles will also be discussed.

Preventing Workplace Violence This workshop will address the different types of workplace violence, and introduce different strategies for reducing risk including how to defuse potentially hostile situations.

Substance Abuse Education for DOT Employees This workshop provides education about substance abuse required by the Department of Transportation, including warning signs of prob-lematic alcohol or drug abuse, and the consequences to DOT regulated employees for providing a positive test.

Substance Abuse Education for Supervisors This workshop builds upon the employee training and provides super-visors additional information concerning the guidelines for establish-ing reasonable suspicion, and talking points for intervening with em-ployees who demonstrate signs of impaired behavior.
