The Greater Hartford Arts Council’s annual United Arts Campaign ensures a vibrant, active and diverse cultural community today and into the future.

Through the generosity of United Arts investors—corporations and small businesses, foundations, local and state government and individual arts enthusiasts—the Arts Council provides grants and services to more than 150 local arts, heritage and cultural organizations across Greater Hartford. Your support fuels artistic excellence and creative innovation, making our cities and towns wonderful places to live, work and visit.

The bulk of every donation fuels the Arts Council’s grant programs, arts education initiatives, advocacy and community services. The rest of the money is invested towards reaching new supporters of the arts.

PARK(ing) DayThe Arts Council, in partnership with the Business Improvement District and Knox, Inc., celebrated Hartford’s first-ever PARK(ing) Day—an international movement to reclaim metered parking spaces and transform them into pop-up parks. PARK(ing) Day brought eight new temporary public spaces downtown, designed by local artists and community groups.

Neighborhood StudiosBack for its 15th year, the Arts Council’s nationally recognized Neighborhood Studios program provided area teens with an unforgettable summer of arts apprenticeships at local cultural institutions and career skills training to prepare them for today’s creative workforce.

Make.Art.Work.This series of workshops taught local artists the importance of practical business savvy: from financial management and marketing to social media, pricing and understanding gallery contracts. Classes were conducted across the state through a partnership with the Arts Council of Greater New Haven and the Cultural Alliance of Fairfield County.

NEW! Charter GrantsWorking with a panel of community leaders and accomplished grantmakers, the Arts Council conducted an extensive, 8-month process to re-evaluate its commitment to operating support and ensure the grants process remained responsive to the real needs of our arts & heritage community. The result is a re-imagined Charter Grant program, which provides essential operating dollars to cultural organizations demonstrating a high artistic merit and proven community impact through enhanced evaluation criteria.

For the first time in a decade, the Arts Council is proud to offer five new organizations operating support: The Amistad Center for Art & Culture, Connecticut Landmarks, Hartbeat Ensemble, the Harriet Beecher Stowe Center and the Noah Webster House & West Hartford Historical Center.

Charter Grants (formerly General Operating Support) $905,000

Artscape Grants (formerly Neighborhood Arts & Heritage) $68,000

Ignition Grants $85,000

Hartford Arts & Heritage Jobs Grants $370,000

Hartford Events Grants $180,000

These multi-year grants fund emerging and evolving arts & heritage organizations, providing the “spark” to create innovative new ideas and deliver compelling, creative programs.
