Project Fit Reno, sponsored by Renown Health, provides weekly fitness classes and an all inclusive facility membership pass to promote a continuum of service, transitioning individuals living with Spinal Cord Injury from the hospital to their home communities to continue to work on their home rehabilitation program and personal fitness goals. Classes are taught by a

Renown Rehabilitation Hospital Physical Therapist and a City of Reno fitness instructor. Individuals living with spinal cord injury will be required to participate in a minimum of 4 structured classes. The class facilitator will cover the following topics throughout the duration of the program: orientation to equipment, assessment of fitness level, proper

technique to develop strength, endurance and flexibility, and discussion of fitness goals. After the minimum requirement of fitness classes is completed, participants will be eligible for a FREE all inclusive facility membership good for one year. Wheelchair Rugby

July—December Tuesday and Thursday 2-5pm - $50 Saturday 12-3pm - $25 Wheelchair or Quad Rugby is a fast paced and competitive sport for individuals with physical disabilities that affect all four ex-tremities. Players use special “Rugby Wheelchairs” to play the sport. These chairs are very maneuverable and can take a hit or two. Rugby players must be able to push their own wheelchairs. Reno Rumble Wheelchair Rugby Tournament

October 30 – November 1 at the Plumas Gymnasium “Livin Life on Wheels” in cooperation with the City of Reno Adaptive Recreation Pro-gram will host their annual wheelchair rugby tournament Teams from the United States Quad Rugby Association (USQRA) will join the Reno Rumble in a fun filled and competitive weekend of wheelchair rugby. Goalball Program starting September 26th City of Reno, funded by a grant from the United States Association of Blind Athletes (USABA), will be hosting a six-week intro-duction to Goalball program. Goalball is a fun and exciting game developed for individuals that are blind or have low vision. Goalball is a paralympic sport and can be played at a competitive level, or for fun and fitness. The City of Reno welcomes all skill levels! The program will be held on Satur-day mornings from 10-11am at the Evelyn Mount Northeast Community Center. Gateway to Gold Saturday, October 17—University of California Berkeley, Recreational Sports Facility, 2301 Bancroft Way, Berkeley, CA Bay Area Gateway to Gold event, hosted by Bay Area Outreach Recreation Program and U.S. Paralympics. This free event will introduce individuals with physical and visual impairments, in-cluding youth, adults and military veterans, to the Paralympic sports of archery, cy-cling, swimming and wheelchair basketball. As part of the event, prospective athletes will be tested on their speed, strength and skills through a variety of tests and sport drills that can help determine their aptitude for Paralympic sport and identify potential future U.S. Paralympic athletes.* All participants are asked to dress in weather-appropriate athletic attire. Wheel-chair users are encouraged to bring their own racing chair. All athletes will be required to sign a liability waiver prior to participation. For partici-pants under the age of 18, a parent’s sig-nature will be necessary during the athlete check-in in the morning. Project Hero Saving Lives by Restoring Hope & Purpose

Ride 2 Recovery’s Project HERO (Healing Exercise Rehabilitation Opportunity) provides training and supports cycling programs at military hospitals, Army Warrior Transitions Units, Marine Wounded Warrior Units and VA locations to help Healing Heroes overcome obstacles they face. Begun in November 2010 at Be-thesda Naval Medical Center (now Walter Reed National Military Medical Center), Project HERO has proven the effectives of group riding in the rehabilitation of injured servicemen and women. Cycling is impor-tant part of the recovery and rehabilitation. Crop for Healing Heroes November 14 Greetings Papercrafters and Vendors!! Benefiting Project HERO City of Reno… come join fellow craft enthusiasts from 9:00am-9:00pm on Saturday, November 14th, at 75 Cowan Street, Reno Nevada, 90509.

For these 12 hours, crafters can “play” all day for a nominal $40.00 (pre-sale) table fee. Your table fee includes lunch, a stamp set, a six-foot table to call your own, and more! Team River Runner It's time to start paddling again. Team River Runner (TRR), established in August 2004 in the Washington, DC area, is an all-volunteer organization run by kayakers. Through whitewater kayaking on various rivers, lakes, and the ocean, TRR pro-motes health, healing, and new challenges for healing Veterans and their families. Join us while we cycle various locations in Northern California and Nevada throughout the summer/fall. There will be a series of organized rides in the Bay Area, Sacra-mento, Chico, Monterey, and Reno. Each ride will offer routes of varying distances for beginner to advanced cyclists. Adaptive Equipment

Rental Program What do you do when you want to play but don’t have the toys? YOU RENT! Our adaptive recreation equipment is avail-able to rent (sport wheelchairs, roller sleds, handcycles, etc.). Renting makes it afford-able for participants to try before they buy, be a weekend warrior, gain skills, and be involved in more than one sport. Now in its 13th year, the BORP Revolution Ride & Festival fundraiser brings people of all ages and abilities together for a day of cycling, celebration, and fun. Arts and Crafts Class We've teamed up with Arts for all Nevada to provide Weekly Wonders, a craft/art workshop held on Thursdays from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Larry D. Johnson Community Center, 1200 12th Street. Participants (16 yrs. or older) will develop their artistic abilities through a variety of fun projects. Cost: $5 per month. We keep track of scores to average for the Special Olympics tournaments. Cost: $2 per game. No pre-registration necessary. Leisure Without Limits People with disabilities who wish to meet new friends through recreational activities will enjoy taking part in our Leisure Without Limits Program.

Muscular Dystrophy Association Muscle Walk

October 10 - Meadowood Mall Through MDA Muscle Walk, you can join forces with others to raise critical dollars that will make a real difference in the lives of people fighting life-threatening muscle disease in your community and across the nation. Funds raised through the Muscle Walk program aid in MDA re-search progress, helping in the search for treatments and cures. The dollars we raise also support MDA’s life-enhancing pro-grams, including state-of-the-art clinics, support groups, and MDA summer camp. Buddy Walk Registration is now open

September 26 Help the Down Syndrome Network of Northern Nevada (DSNNN) celebrate its 10th Annual Buddy Walk and Fun Fair. The Buddy Walk® is the largest awareness event offered by the DSNNN, and also a fundraiser that allows the DSNNN to continue to offer and improve programs that benefit the Down syndrome community and their family. The Buddy Walk® was established by the National Down Syn-drome Society (NDSS) in 1995 to promote acceptance and inclusion of people with Down syndrome, and to celebrate Down Syndrome Awareness Month in October.
