Event Mission: Through education, service, partnership, and advocacy, The Center equips congregations in Baltimore and beyond to transform neighborhoods by engaging in the justice and reconciliation of Jesus Christ. In 2009, a group of teaching and ruling elders in the Presbytery of Baltimore began to dream of an urban mission center that would partner visiting church groups with local congregations to work in neighborhoods. In 2011, The Center was founded with the Rev. Kate Foster Connors as director. A newly renovated 40-bed dormitory facility in the Mount Vernon neighborhood of midtown Baltimore hosts groups seeking overnight lodging or daytime meeting space, and it regularly welcomes youth and adult groups from across the U.S. for urban immersion mission experiences that will prepare them to get involved in justice making in their own communities. Heard, a graduate of Princeton Theological Seminary, is the founding director of Friends of Jesus, an interdenominational, intergenerational ensemble of singers who perform various genres of sacred music. Do not fear, or be afraid; have I not told you from of old and declared it? You are my witnesses! Is there any god besides me? There is no other rock; I know not one.

—Isaiah 44:8In a time of fear and confusion, God is calling us to act in faith, to bear witness to God’s unfolding kingdom.
