Welcome to Cowes - the home of International Yacht Racing. Ancasta’s Race Boat division has increased considerably over the last three years and I’m thrilled that as testimony to our continued growth, this catalogue contains a broad collection of racing boats from cruiser racers to the finest grand prix yachts both new and used. Ancasta have always been very closely involved with the summer racing campaigns which are held in UK waters, and I am very pleased to report that this year will be no different.
Unique to the 2015 calendar is the Royal Yacht Squadron Bicentenary regatta, which was held from 27th-31st July and saw some of the most spectacular race boats across the world take to the Solent waters. This event has attracted some of the biggest names in sailing and the high quality of racing was very apparent to see. Ancasta’s race boat team were again present, sailing on the MC38, which had a great event and really mixed it up with some of the big boys.
Recently Ancasta have launched the all new MC38 Solent One Design circuit, which aims to bring grand prix One Design racing back to the Solent, whilst maintaining a realistic level of affordability that is much needed in today’s climate. With strict OD Class rules and financial limitations controlling professionals and sail usage, our goal is to make this racing open to a wide audience and really bring exhilarating, close racing back to the UK. 2016 will be the first season and with 5 teams already committing to the circuit it promises to gain great momentum over the coming years and really cement its place as the best OD performance sailing in the UK.
We then roll neatly into Aberdeen Asset Management Cowes Week which needs no introduction, and has now annually taken place since 1826 (except during the two world wars). Around 8,500 competitors participate, ranging from Olympic and world class yachtsmen
to weekend sailors. With approximately 1000 keel boats taking part every year, we are always thrilled to note that both Beneteau and McConaghy are extremely well represented throughout and our Race Boat division has seen many of the racers which have passed through our hands, claim their winning prizes. Many of the Ancastrian stalwarts participate in the racing this week, so we hope to see a lot of you when we take one of our very rare breaks to ensure the beer tent and local pubs are living up to expectations!
Directly after Aberdeen Asset Management Cowes Week the truly dedicated and those with the energy reserves left, set off to compete in the RORC Fastnet Race, which yet again is fully booked. This will also see a plethora of the worlds most exquisite race boats and the coveted prize for the overall trophy is too hard to call with so many strong teams in the fray.
After this busy schedule things take a slightly more relaxed turn as we look to the Southampton Boat Show where Ancasta Race Boats will be launching the brand new Ker 33, straight from the factory at McConaghy Boats. The boat has been designed with IRC and ORC in mind primarily but also offers a really ergonomic and practical interior which stands it well above its competitors. We would welcome any interested parities down to the show but please contact us prior to the event to avoid double booking disappointment.
Ancasta’s presence at all these top events along with our Cowes based office means that we have the perfect platform when it comes to selling your boat and with our record trading over the last 6 months, Ancasta Race Boats are the brokers making all the right noise in the race boat world.
Here’s to fantastic summer for all involved, and I hope to meet many of you on the circuit!

Shepards Wharf, Cowes, Isle of Wight. PO31 7HTTel: 01983 716164
With the first boat now finished and based in Cowes it is really plain to see how much of a development the 40+ is on from the original 40 design, everything about the boat just looks the extra bit fettled and optimised.
One of the biggest things that stands out is the attention to detail paid to the aerodynamic effects, as well as all the usual hydrodynamic features that Jason Ker implements. Focus for so many years has been on the underwater
profile of these boats and reducing drag wherever possible but now this is really extending to so many other areas, whether it be the single aerofoil push and pulpit posts, to the exceptionally clean deck arrangement, pretty much everything has been considered.
The first boat has been geared with a tiller setup, which certainly for inshore and downwind response is the way to go from a helmsman’s point of view but McConaghy also offer a twin wheel setup
for those with more offshore sailing in mind, in fact if you are looking at doing both, McConaghy have designed a very neat system that makes both systems interchangeable and so with a morning’s preparation you can be fully optimised for your day’s sailing no matter how long the course.
You can expect to see the boat out racing in the headline events of 2015 and we are predicting a plethora of silver wear to be heading its way.
The Ker 33 is hoping to continue the long running success story of Ker Yacht Design and with the first boat now sailing in Western Australia they look to have done just that.
With the race winning McConaghy/Ker partnership in full swing again here, it felt like an easy choice to bring hull #2 to the UK to try and knock those French designs off their perch, by demonstrating the true dual purpose nature of the 33.
With the Ker 33 being available in both an asymmetric and symmetric spinnaker
setup the boat can excel both inshore and offshore; having seen interest rise in the short handed sailing out there, we have opted for the asymmetric configuration on our first demo boat.
The anticipated IRC numbers at this stage are 1.027 in symmetric configuration, which is actually well below the early predicted design numbers. They have been kept low largely due to the boat having a simple fin design keel as opposed to a bulb, which is quite heavily penalised under IRC. The other reason for a fin over
a bulb is the increased chord length that you gain from a fin arrangement, which is seen very favourably under other rating systems such as ORC where we also hope a good fleet will be established.
She is expected to arrive in Hamble late July and will be participating in Cowes Week 2015. Contact us to arrange a viewing and even join us for a day in Cowes Week.
