Dear Parents and Students !Greetings from Paavai Chairman ! I am immensely happy to meet you again through this Newsletter 2014-2015. This Newsletter, now in your hands, is a record of all the academic, curricular, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities and events that have taken place in our Paavai Engineering Institutions during the academic year 2014-2015. All such events have been organized and conducted with the intention of igniting the Spark in the minds of our students. Of late, it is generally assumed that technical education is slowly losing its sheen but the fact is that it is really gaining its momentum more and more. The present prevailing situation is only a tentative setback. A nation cannot scale its heights without

science, engineering and technology. India is progressing at a phenomenal speed. Since India is developing and getting modernized, there are vast number of facilities and opportunities, particularly in the area of manufacturing. The technical institutions are expected to bring the whole practice of manufacturing into the classroom context through skill development using trained and certified industry faculty. Then only our education would become meaningful by translating our Prime Minister Modis slogan Make in India into reality. Now -a-days, interdisciplinary research plays a seminal role in technological development and it is the joint responsibility of every stakeholder educationists, academics, faculty, students and so on. It gains currency in the modern scientific and technical scenario. For instance, research in nano-technology spans across an array of fields such as health, environment, agriculture, food and beverages, power generation, space technology, forensic science, electronics and communication etc. We have to think and link to find out the inter connectivity in different branches of knowledge. It is a big credit to Paavai and we all feel proud to know that Paavai Engineering College has been accredited with A Grade by National Assessment and Accreditation Council. Another milestone of Paavai Engineering College is that University Grants Commission has granted Autonomous status and Anna University, Chennai, has endorsed it. It is evident from the variety of activities that Paavai is caring very much to cater to the needs of the students. Paavai students are exposed to listen to the experience, valuable thoughts and the success stories of great personalities, educationists, scientists, administrators, chief executives, motivators, TV anchors, writers, speakers etc. In addition to the technical advancements and westernization of education, we have to remember our traditional pattern of education also. Real education means value- based education which includes character formation and development of all round personality. Real education aims at quantifying and measuring the importance of virtues like empathy, compassion, sacrifice, integrity and kindness- all of which play a significant role in living a meaningful life. Unfortunately, the present day education has been reduced to the level of Teaching for Testing and it is not a wholistic education. Hence, there arises an immediate need for an over-hauling, re-defining or re-designing of our educational curriculum and pedagogic pattern. Before I rap up, I would like you to remember the words of Swami Vivekananda, Education which does not bring out the strength of character and a spirit of philanthropy is not worth the name. I wholeheartedly congratulate the Principals, Heads of the Departments, faculty and students for the events conducted during 2014-15 and I expect your continuous support as in the past.

A Motivation Talk on Social Engineering by Vijay TV

fame Neeya? Naana?Gobinath, CEO and Founder of

TaalkShop Academy for the students and staff members

of Paavai Institutions was held on 11.07.2014 at

AnandhaArangam.

68th Independence Day of our Nation was celebrated

in a colourful and glorious manner on 15.08.2014.

Shri.CA.N.V.Natarajan,Chairman, Paavai Institutions,

hoisted the National Flag and accepted the Salute and

Guard of Honour by the students of Paavai Institutions.

Department of Management Studies organized a guest

lecture on HR Professional Strategy to Shape MBA

Students on 02.08.2014. Mr.A.Rajakumar, Manager-

HR, TVS Logistics Services Limited, Chennai, was the

guest speaker.

First Year B.E. / B.Tech. classes were inaugurated

on 11.08.2014 at Anandha Arangam.

Shri.CA.N.V.Natarajan, Chairman, Paavai Institutions,

presided over the function.

A new branch of Corporation Bank, Near Paavai

Institutions, Pachal, was inaugurated by Shri.

CA.N.V.Natarajan, Chairman, Paavai Institutions, on

11.08.2014. Smt.Mangai Natarajan, Correspondent,

Paavai Institutions, lighted the kuthuvilakku and

inaugurated the Safety Deposit Locker. Shri.U.V.Kini,

Circle Head and General Manager, Chennai Circle,

Aryabhatta Math Forum, under the Department of Mathematics, was inaugurated by Smt. Mangai Natarajan, Correspondent, Paavai Institutions on 16.08.2014 at Anandha Arangam. Mr. Kovi. Palani, Post Graduate Assistant, Government AdiDravidar Welfare Higher Secondary School, Nagalkeni, Chennai, was the Guest of Honour for the function. Shri.CA.N.V.Natarajan, Chairman, Paavai Institutions, presided over the function.

A remarkable function in connection with Teachers Day

Celebration (Guru Vanakkam) was held on 05.09.2014.

Students honoured the teachers by doing Padha Pooja

as a token of our ancient Vedic tradition and culture.

A two day workshop on Teaching Mathematics

for Engineering Staff was held on 22.08.2014 and

23.08.2014. Mr.K.N.Visvesvaran, Chief Mentor,

Hexavarsity, HexawareTechnologies, Bangalore and

Prof.K.N.Ranganathan, Viroopaksha Foundations, were

the chief guests. Your Life Journey-Next Four Years,

an interactive session, was conducted on the second

day for First Year B.E. / B.Tech. students at Anandha

Arangam by the chief guests.

First Year Post Graduate classes were inaugurated for

the Department of Management Studies and Master

of Computer Applications on 25.08.2014 at Kalams

Chamber by Dr.K.K.Ramasamy, Director and Senior

Principal.

An Orientation Program on Target High, Achieve

High for First Year B.E. / B.Tech. was organized on

03.09.2014. Smt. MangaiNatarajan, Correspondent,

Paavai Institutions, presided over the function.

The Association Inaugural function of all the

departments was held on 06.09.2014. Mr.N.Harihara

Subramaniyan, Managing Director, Mayura Automation

& Robotics Systems Pvt. Ltd. and Mayuras Industrial

Services, was the chief guest of the occasion.

A two day workshop on Entrepreneurship - The

Chocolate Challenge was organized by Department of

Management Studies on 19.09.2014 and 20.09.2014

for department students. Ms.M.Iswarya, Additional

Training and Placement Officer, Paavai Institutions,

Namakkal, was the co-ordinator.

Bharathiyar Day and Swamy Vivekanandhas Great

Speech at Chicago Memorial Day were observed on

11.09.2014. Mrs.AkilaBalaji,State Incharge, National

Council Forum, was the chief guest for the occasion.

Tamil Manne Vanakkam, a programme on Tamil

language and literature, was hosted by Junior Vikadan

on 12.09.2014. Dr.K.Sivaraman, Siddha Doctor cum

Writer and Dr.S.Venkatesan,SahityaAkademi awardee

and General Secretary of Tamil Nadu Progressive

Writers, were the Chief Guests for the occasion.

Mission 10X Faculty Empowerment Workshop was

hosted by Paavai Institutions on 10th to 12th, September

2014.

A trekking expedition was arranged for First Year B.E.

/ B.Tech. students of Paavai Institutions to Yercaud,

Salem, on 07.11.2014. Nearly 100 students and staff

members took part in the expedition.

Pongal Thirunal, as a part of Pongal festival, was

celebrated in a grand manner on 12.01.2015. Students

of Paavai Institutions exhibited their creative talents

and innovative designs by drawing colourful rangolis.

Students of Paavai Polytechnic College and PavaiVaram

Polytechnic College presented GraamiyaKalaiVizhaa,

a traditional dance feast on the rich culture of Tamil

Nadu.

A motivational programme Unnal Mudiyum was

conducted for plus two students on 22.11.2014.

Mr.S.Gobidas, CEO, Namakkal and Dr.R.Sendhuran,

President, United Vision 2020, were the Chief Guests

for the occasion.

Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayees

birthday was celebrated as Good Governance Day on

24.12.2014. Oratorical and PowerPoint Presentation

competitions were conducted on Use of Technology

and Innovation in Promoting Good Governance.

A three day refresher programme was conducted from

09.01.2015 to 11.01.2015 for the senior faculty

members of Paavai Institutions at Yercaud, Salem.

Mr.Karthick, International Jaycee Trainer, gave training

for the faculty.

A workshop on Short Film Making was held

on 12.01.2015 at Tata Hall, Paavai Institutions.

Mr.R.Siddharth Babu, Film Director, was the chief

guest of the occasion.

66th Republic Day was celebrated on 26.01.2015 in

a grand manner and Shri.CA.N.V.Natarajan,Chairman,

Paavai Institutions, hoisted the National Flag and

delivered the Republic Day speech.

Department of EEE organised an Intra Departmental

Symposium on 22.01.2015. Students eagerly

participated in all the events like Technical Quiz, Paper

Presentation, Technical Marketing, etc.

Youth Festival on National Integration was celebrated

on 23.01.2015 on Paavai Campus. 1500 students

from more than 100 private and government schools

participated and exhibited their talents in 12 competitions

like quiz,elocution,science exhibition, drawing, rangoli,

cultural events, etc. Shri.CA.N.V.Natarajan, Chairman,

Paavai Institutions, presided over the function and

distributed the prizes to the winners.

A Guest Lecture on Safety Engineering was organized

and conducted by the Department of Automobile

Engineering on 24.1.2015. The chief guest of the

occasion was Mr.M.Yuvaraj, Safety Engineer, MS Global

India Automotive, Pvt. Ltd, Chennai. In his lecture he

gave a brief speech on the advanced safety equipment

in the industry and how to make use of them.

The Society of Mechanical Engineering of Paavai

College of Engineering organized an Intra Departmental

Symposium MECH CARNIVAL-2K15 under AURA on

28-01-2015. Paper presentation on various innovative

topics, Technical quiz, Technical marketing, CAD

modelling and fun games were the events of this

symposium.

The Department of Electronics and Communication

Engineering organized and conducted an Intra

Departmental Symposium on 04-02-2015. Students

eagrly participated in all the events.

Department of English organized English Speaking Campaign, a massive rally with the intention of creating awareness on the importance of English among the students who hail from rural backdrop was held on 29.01.2015. The event was inaugurated by Shri.CA.N.V.Natarajan, Chairman, Paavai Institutions. Dr. Shakila Mathew, Head of the Department of English, Bannari Amman Institute of Technology, Sathyamangalam, Erode, was the chief guest. She gave a special talk on communication competency.

A one day motivational talk for students and staff of

Paavai Institutions was given by Mr.A.K.Patabiraman

Head of Accreditation, TCS, on 02.02.2015 at Tata

Hall.

Astra15, a two day Intra-Collegiate Cultural Extravaganza, was organized under the leadership of Mrs. Avanti Natarajan, Director, Students Affairs (Talents and Skills), Paavai Institutions, on 12.02.2015 and 13.02.2015, in order to bring out the inherent talents and skills of the students leading to the development of holistic personalities. Shri.CA.N.V.Natarajan, Chairman, Paavai Institutions, inaugurated the function on 12.02.2015. The popular play-back singer Mr. Srinivasan was the chief guest for the valedictory function on 13.02.2015.

The Department of Automobile Engineering organized

and conducted an Intra Departmental Symposium

OVERDRIVE-2015 under AURA on 07.02.2015.

Mangayare Maanpuruveer, a one day programme in

connection with World Womens Day was celebrated on

13.03.2015 at Anandha Arangam, Paavai Institutions.

Dr.I.S. Parveen Sultana, Assistant Professor,

Department of Tamil, Justice Basheer Ahmed Sayeed

College for Women, was the chief guest and delivered

a special address on various aspects related to women.

Department of Management Studies, Paavai Institutions, and Tamil Nadu Corporation for Development of Women Limited (Mahalir Thittam, Namakkal District) jointly organized a three day Sales cum Exhibition event from 25.02.2015 to 27.02.2015 to promote the products of the organization. The event was inaugurated by Thiru.V.Dakshinamoorthy, IAS, District Collector of Namakkal. Ayurvedic products, candy, jute bags, footwear, toys, cosmetics items, one gram gold jewels etc. were displayed for sale.

Paavai Institutions celebrated its 14th Annual Day

in a very ostentatious manner on 07.03.2015.

Dr.C.SylendraBabu, I.P.S., Additional Director General

of Police of the Coastal Security Group, Tamil Nadu,

was the chief guest. Best Out-Going Students and staff

members who produced 100% results in the University

exams were awarded with medals and appreciation

certificates.

Outreach Programme on US Higher Education was

conducted on 13.03.2015. Mr.Zahid M Raja, Vice

Consul, US Consulate General, Chennai, was the chief

guest. The aim of the programme was to promote the

opportunities available for the students for their higher

studies in US. Shri.CA.N.V.Natarajan, Chairman, Paavai

Institutions, presided over the function.

A National Level Management Meet, ASSIDUOUS15

was organized by the Department of Management

Studies on 13.03.2015. Shri.Atlas.M.Nachimuthu,

Founder-Atlas Export Enterprises, Karur, inaugurated

the function and addressed the students. Shri.

CA.N.V.Natarajan, Chairman, Paavai Institutions,


EKATHRA15, an intercollegiate Technical Cum Cultural Festival for the U.G. students of Arts and Science colleges of Namakkal, Erode, Salem, Karur, Villupuram and Dharmapuri was jointly organized by Department of MBA and MCA on 27.03.2015. Shri.CA.N.V.Natarajan, Chairman, Paavai Institutions, distributed prizes and certificates to the winners. Dr. K.K.Ramasamy, Director and Senior Principal, presided over the function.

Sports Day was celebrated on 23.03.2015. Shri.

CA.N.V.Natarajan,Chairman, Paavai Institutions,

presided over the function and stated in his presidential

address that curriculum stops at the door-steps of the

college, but the extra-curricular activities will continue

to guide us all through our life.

Awards Noon was celebrated on 14.03.2015. Prizes

were distributed to the top academic performers of all

departments. ThiruA.D. Padmasingh Isaac, Managing

Director and Chairman, Aachi Masala Foods (P) Ltd.,

Chennai, was the chief guest. Shri.CA.N.V.Natarajan,

Chairman, Paavai Institutions, presided over the

function.

Faculty Skill Enhancement Programme by Mrs.

HemaGopalan, Vice-President, Banking and Financial

Services, Services Delivery, TCS, was held on 26.04.15.

Paavai IAS Academy was inaugurated on 22.04.2005

by Thiru V. IraiAnbu , IAS ,Principal Secretary/ Director

Economics and Statistics, Chennai, at Anandha

Arangam. Shri.CA.N.V.Natarajan, Chairman, Paavai

Institutions, presided over the function.

Farewell Day was celebrated by the final year students

of Paavai Institutions on 27.04.2015 and 29.04.2015.



Tenth Graduation Day of Paavai Institutions was

celebrated on 01.05.2015 and 02.05.2015. Smt.

Mangai Natarajan, Correspondent, Paavai Institutions,

inaugurated the graduation day. Dr.Balaji Sambath,

Director, Ahagroup.com, Founder and Advisor, AID and

Dr.S.Ganesan, Registrar, Anna University, Chennai were

the chief guests. 69 university rank holders and 1728

graduates were awarded with medals and certificates.

Placement Day was celebrated on 02.05.2015 at

J.R.D. Tata Hall. Mr.Vijaykannan,Head HR for Retail

and TTH,TCS, Chennai, was the chief guest for the

occasion. 848 offer letters were distributed to the

successful students.

Mahindra on 22.08.2014. Mr. Timothy Samson,

Campus Recruitment Anchor, Tech Mahindra, was the

chief guest.

Hinduja Global Solutions conducted a recruitment drive

on 04.03.2015. Mr. Anand Babu, HR, was the chief

guest.

HCL Technologies conducted a Recruitment Drive

on 24.11.2014. Mr. Mohit Singh Dalal, HR, HCL

Technologies, was the chief guest.

On 28.01.2015, WIPRO conducted a Campus

SPORTS AND GAMES 2014-15

Paavai College of Engineering has got 1st position in State level women and men Power Lifting Championship

conducted by S.N.S College of Technology, Coimbatore from 25 to 27.07.2014.

Paavai College of Engineering was the winner of Anna University Zone-08 Table Tennis (Men & Women) conducted in

Mahendra College Of Engineering, Salem, on 07 &18.08.2014.

Paavai College of Engineering was the winner in Anna University Zone-08, Football (Men)organised by Government

College of Engineering, Salem, from 01.09.2014 to 03.09.2014.

Paavai College of Engineering was the winner in Anna University Zone-08, Kho-Kho (Men) organised by King College of

Engineering, Namakkal, from 25.09.2014 to 26.09.2014.

Paavai College of Engineering was the Zone Level winner in Anna University Zone-08, Basket Ball & Tennis (Men)

organised by Kongunadu College of Engineering, Thottiyam.
