2015MISSION OPPORTUNITIES

Page 2: 2015 Mission Opps

Responding to God's call is life-changing. There is no question that each call is unique and not everyone will respond the same way, but there is little room to debate that God has called you to “Go” and He has called you to “make disciples” (Matthew 28). So whether it's in your own family, your own neighborhood, city, country or around the world, let me encourage you to respond to God's call. Let me assure you it is life-changing. This book contains a variety of opportunities for you to go and serve internationally. The opportunities range from two weeks to 6 months. We know this isn't for everyone, but we want everyone to stop and consider if in fact God has called them to go. So prayerfully turn through the pages that follow and ask God to stir a response within you and let us know how we can help you respond.

First Baptist Arlington is committed to getting as many people on the field as possible. As a result, we provide scholarship options for every opportunity listed in this brochure. In addition to scholarships, it is common for the generosity of others to help address your financial needs. So, as you reflect on the opportunities that follow, I simply ask that you eliminate that concern and open yourself up to the possibility that God is asking you to do something that your intuition would say is impossible. Thanks again for your consideration.

Note: Given the recent Ebola outbreak we will not send any volunteers into the country until we are 100% sure it is safe to return to the region. Upon that clearance, the following opportunities could be considered.

Page 8: 2015 Mission Opps

WHAT IS IT?Opportunities that last longer than 1-2 weeks. Could be a summer, semester or even up to an entire year.

HOW IS THE LIST DETERMINED?Every opportunity we've provided is connected to a strong partnership our church has cultivated over the years. Some of these opportunities would include working among some of our own workers that FBCA has sent on a long-term basis. Others are focusing on strong partnerships we've cultivated through our short-term teams. Put simply, these are key partnerships unique to FBCA's missional efforts. These have been compiled by FBCA's sent workers and key missions leadership.

WHAT’S THE MAIN STRATEGY?Discipleship. Discipleship. Discipleship. We will commit to sending small teams to use their skills that may range from administration, medical, sport, teaching and many others but with a sole focus on discipleship and the proclamation of the gospel.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE FOR AN EXTENDED VOLUNTEER EFFORT?While we anticipate this will be a great opportunity for college students and recent graduates, all ages from college and above are welcome to apply.

EXTENDED VOLUNTEER EFFORTS

Page 9: 2015 Mission Opps

IS THERE TRAINING INVOLVED?YES!!! We are looking for mature followers of Jesus Christ who feel a genuine calling to serve overseas for an extended amount of time. All applicants will go through an interview process with the necessary missional leadership (Volunteer Missions Team or Direct Mission Sending Council). These entities will then allow our partners on the ground to interview the candidate as well to ensure it is a good fit for all involved. A cross-cultural and discipleship training will be provided before the term begins.

CAN I GO WITH A TEAM?Yes!!! In fact, it's required. Every opportunity listed requires a minimum of two individuals. We believe this is a biblical model that should be followed and helps incorporate the necessary community and accountability to strive for a healthy experience. It is our preference that these teams are formed by the team members themselves but they will be assigned if necessary.

BASIC TRAINING REQUIRED WHEN ACCEPTED- Intensive training using Panorama curriculum that

focuses on cross-cultural ministry. The lessons will be customized to suit the assignment.

- Cultural orientation specific to the area the volunteer will be serving.

- Discipleship Training that focuses on the T4T model (training for trainers) and the “Harvest” material developed by FBCA's Global Ministries office.

- Continued training on the importance and practice of Bible Storying.

UP-COUNTRY SURVEY WORKHelp our team based in Sierra Leone by exploring the up-country areas of Sierra Leone.
