Pest Management challenges:Many traditional processes remain

• Many still rely on handwriting on multi-part snap sets • Handwriting is error-prone and unreliable• Snap sets are expensive and copies aren’t always

goodAutomating these processes underway at many companies

• Handhelds and laptops for techs to receive, record and transmit data

• Saves time, improves accuracy and productivity• More mobile printing solutions are being deployed

also• However, computer experience of techs not consistent

– simple is betterInherent “in the field” limitations

• Techs work on-site; need to print on-site• Otherwise, wasted time between engagements

• Reliability of solution critical• Often remote locations – no help nearby

Many times, only full-page output is acceptable to customers

• For commercial customer log books• For service reports/invoices• For certificates and guarantees• Required Mandates

Other times, small format output is the right choice

• For receipts and invoices• For “serviced on” and call-back labels• For situations requiring extreme portability

The goal is to find mobile printing solutions that:

• Easily connect to handhelds and laptops• Offer true portability – can easily be carried to and used

onsite• Perform reliably in extreme conditions• Are easy to operate, supply and maintain in the field

A variety of mobile printing solutions have been deployed:

• 4" thermal printers …• Mobile full-page inkjet printers …• Full-page thermal printers …

Page 4: 2015 PestPac User Conference

4" mobile thermal printers …Advantages:

• Compact & lightweight• Take less space in a vehicle• Can be carried on belt or shoulder strap• Reliable thermal printing technology

• No inks, toners or ribbons• Only one consumable

• IP Rated durability• Print small documents and labels

Disadvantages:• Small-size output

• 2" to 4"• Standard resolution is 203 DPI

• Not high enough for maps & other detailed documents

• Limited graphics capabilities• Print speeds

Page 5: 2015 PestPac User Conference

Mobile inkjet printers …Advantages:

• Lower upfront cost for device• Print full-page output, in color & B&W• Good print quality

Disadvantages:• Consumer-grade devices – many fragile moving parts that can break• Failure in field can halt work• Increased workload for IT to replace units and field service calls

• Rely on inks which can freeze or leak in extreme cold or heat

• Output can smudge or smear when exposed to moisture and temperature fluctuation

• Larger footprint and not truly “portable” – most often vehicle mounted

Full Page Thermal printers … Advantages:

• Reliable, proven technology – few moving parts, less to break

• Only one consumable – no problems with extreme heat or cold

• Print full-page output, with lower TCO than inkjets• Good output quality• Small, compact and lightweight – easily carried to and operated onsite

• Truly portable – powered via rechargeable batteries• Simple one-button printing• Easily connects to handhelds and laptops

Disadvantages:• B&W only

Perfect for:• Log book report

binders • Inspection reports• Service slips/

invoices• Rodent bait station

locations & site maps

• Bait station and other activities

• Chemicals used • EPA and other

compliance• Guarantees &

certificates
