CONCURRENT SESSIONS: THERE IS A 5-MINUTE TRANSITION PERIOD BETWEEN SESSIONS

8:15

Workshop 1: Increasing Project Success by Decreasing Project RiskScott Reynolds, VP Senior Technology Project Manager, BANK OF AMERICAMany projects that are started this year, will fail. Many of the causes that will contribute to these projects failing, can be avoided. While it is not possible to predict and plan for all issues that will have a negative impact on a project, it is possible to reduce the number and impact of issues through risk management. This highly interactive workshop will help you better understand key differences between risk management and issues management, provide you with easy to implement risk management tools and techniques that can be applied on a single project or on an enterprise scale. Whether your organization is relatively new to risk management or has mature processes in place, this workshop will help you increase project success by decreasing project risk. Participants will focus on driving project success through active risk management. Attendees will better understand the relationship between project risk management and project success and how they can increase their projects probability of success.

8:15

Workshop 2: Successful Project Benefit Realization Ricki Henry, PMP, CSM, Principle Management Analyst, CLARK COUNTY NVSuccessful projects require more than just implementing the final product according to specifications. Successful project managers understand that the project sponsor wants the product to achieve benefits such as they’re “better, faster, or cheaper” then previous products, or that we want to “improve customer satisfaction”, just to name a few. These benefits are not a natural result of implementing the product according to specifications but require additional effort to define, plan and track. Defining what benefits the sponsor wants to realize can be challenging. They are the Project Success Criteria, KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) and Deliverable Acceptance Criteria. In this workshop the participants will learn how to: Write Success Criteria

 Determine KPIs

 Write deliverable acceptance criteria

8:15

Half Day Workshop 3: Part 1: The IT PM as Change LeaderLou Russell, CEO, Learning Facilitator, RUSSELL MARTIN & ASSOCIATES In this 1/2 day simulation, project managers will experience the tension between collaboration and competition on projects, and will create action . Trust, Alignment, Process and People are the levels participants will manage to complete a difficult project with and in spite of other teams, just like in the real world. A Post Project Review will provide each learner with an action plan to increase their ability to manage projects in highly matrixed organizations.

10:45

Workshop 1: Agile Fundamentals for Project Managers and Business AnalystsIf you have a story to share on this topic and would like to be considered to facilitate this workshop, please contact Rachel McDonald at [email protected].

Workshop 2: Mentors Help you Skill up. Sponsors Help you Move up. Jo Miller, Founding Editor, BELEADERLY.COM, CEO, WOMEN’S LEADERSHIP COACHING, INC.Sponsors are senior leaders who advocate on your behalf and connect you with career opportunities. In this session, led by Jo Miller, CEO of Women’s Leadership Coaching, Inc., explore the difference between mentors and sponsors. Learn four ways to make the most of mentoring conversations, and how to identify potential sponsors. Discover eight steps to gaining sponsorship, and leave with a personalized plan to attract the attention of an influential sponsor.

2:00

Track 1: Exploring and Analyzing Data in 3DIgor Peev, Senior Program Manager Power Map for Excel, MICROSOFT CORPORATION3D data exploration is a new and promising field. Interacting and animating the data gives the user additional insights which are not available in the traditional methods of exploration. We will discuss and demo 6–7 examples involving different datasets from which we will gain insights about patterns in topics as diverse as searching for books on Bing, average precipitation in the United States, homelessness among elementary school children in the state of Washington and trends of spending of the US Federal government. Participants can use Power Map now and will walk away knowing how to quickly and easily visualize data in 3D using Office 365. Data exploration in 3D and gaining insights while doing is completely new and is gaining a lot of momentum alongside the traditional methods of doing BA.

2:00

Track 2: Transforming Big Data into Big ValueKaren Schmidt, Associate Vice President, CHAMPS ONCOLOGYAmber Gregg, Director Analytics and Innovations, CHAMPS ONCOLOGYGale Zimmer, Director of Operations, CHAMPS ONCOLOGYThis presentation will walk through the entire project cycle of insight2oncology from development to implementation within client health systems. Insight2oncology is a web based analytics system which leverages large oncology datasets that have otherwise sat unused in hospitals. The insight2oncology analytics system is the only product of its kind on the market. This discussion showcases the platform’s ability to tackle the challenge of transforming big data into accessible and actionable information. The project plan that supports this work incorporates creating communities of interest, selecting areas of focus, defining value objectives and execution techniques.

2:00

Track 3: Projects & Dragons: Lessons Learned From The DungeonPhil Vecchione, Project Manager, SUNY ITECLong before he became a Project Manager, Phil Vecchione was sitting with his friends around a table playing Dungeons & Dragons. Little did he know, years of delving into imaginary dungeons and fighting imaginary monsters would prepare him to lead project teams in the real world. Let Phil regale your inner geek with tales of his journey from game master to project manager. Discover why every project needs a wizard, what a project and a dungeon have in common, and what to do when the dragon rears its head in your project. This talk will look at the group dynamics and project management through the lens of tabletop roleplaying games, specifically fantasy RPGs such as Dungeons & Dragons. The talk is designed to be light-hearted but filled with observations and insight about group composition, project pacing, managing change, and the rewards of conquering a project.

3:15

Track 1: The Walt Disney Company Case Study: Implementing Global Solutions at a Fortune 100 CompanyBrunella Lahey, Senior Business Systems Analyst, THE WALT DISNEY COMPANY This interdisciplinary case study examines the methodologies and practices of a global software implementation at The Walt Disney Company. 3:15

Track 3: Managing Risks, Issues, and Opportunities with a Mitigation BurndownWayne Kremling PMP, Senior Project Manager, THE BOEING COMPANYThe management of Risks, Issues, and Opportunities (RIO) needs more than just identifying those items that keep you up at night (or at least give you sweaty palms). We need to have purpose in everything we do. Towards that end, setting goals or targets leads to purpose. Identifying a mitigation plan is a good direction to go, but what is the intended result of each mitigation step? Does it lead to your target?Importance of purposeWell thought out mitigation plans The cumulative effect of the risks on

Leadership Strategies for Managing the Rate of Change in a Digital Driven Economy Fredrick Redd, CEO, ASSAI MANAGEMENT CONSULTING, LLC The digital driven economy has not only altered the way we manage projects and programs, it has fundamentally changed the way we conduct business across all industries and sectors and the way we live. The digital driven economy is a major driver of the global economy and rate of change and development is staggering. In today’s economy, any project, program or organization whose internal rate of change is slower than the external rate of change will be headed for difficulty. Successful companies attain their success through people with the right vision and leadership skills.  Moreover, project managers and business analysts with the right skill sets are already emerging as leaders during this major paradigm shift. This keynote discussion will share case studies as well as key leadership principles and strategies to keep pace with the rate of change that is ideal for leading projects, programs or organizations. During this session gain a better understanding of: The fundamental structure of the digital landscape and why it matters

How to develop a vision and set objectives in the digital driven economy

The framework of strategy and implementation that keeps pace with the rate of change

The importance of analyzing, correcting and adjusting as technological changes occur

The ability to construct a great story while holding mastery of the stage is a powerful, priceless skill for leaders to leverage for a LIFETIME. In this fun, highly engaging, and high-impact workshop, leaders are immersed in various evidenced-based and empirically defined leading practice models required to reach the pinnacle of oratory mastery (for use at home and at work). Leaders will learn the fundamental principles and best practices of presentation “design and delivery” from numerous pioneers in the field and from current day “TEDx” superstars. Further, leaders will personally explore the art of improv and “Story” through the lens of Hollywood, including writing the outline for their own movie script by leveraging authentic Hollywood-style templates used in Hollywood for million-dollar pitches and screenplays (of course, these pitch and story templates can be leveraged when “presenting” to secure funding or resources for your next big idea).

Track 1: Scaling Agile to the OrganizationMargo Visitacion, Director of Research, FORRESTER RESEARCHThe success of Agile development has brought the approach to the mainstream, however, in order to make Agile sustainable long term, organizations must address several challenges. Project and Human DignityLou Russell, CEO, Learning Facilitator, RUSSELL MARTIN & ASSOCIATES As project managers, we talk with our Project Sponsor about the value of a project. Clearly, to manage the scope of complex projects, keeping your eye on the prize is critical. But what is the prize? When asked, project managers often come up with ROI and stakeholder value as the prize. We teach that it’s critical to choose either Increase Revenue or Avoid Cost as your top priority and measure it constantly to stay on track. But what about the value to the project team? What is the cost and morality of damaging project team members to create business value? Join Lou to think differently about project value, and new strategies to drive business and human value. Lou Russell, CEO, Learning Facilitator,

CONCURRENT SESSIONS: THERE IS A 5-MINUTE TRANSITION PERIOD BETWEEN SESSIONS

2:15

Workshop 1: Creating Magic: Leadership and Services ExcellenceWilliam Greenwald, Founder and Chief Neuroleaderologist, WINDSOR LEADERSHIP GROUP, LLC.The framework for this learning event is built upon the collaborative efforts of William Greenwald, a leading scholar in the practices of transformational leadership, and Lee Cockerell, former Executive Vice President of Operations for the Walt Disney World Resort and world renowned author of two books: Creating Magic and The Customer Rules. The core constructs of this program draw upon Lee’s two books, including one of Lee’s major and lasting legacies while serving as EVP of operations at Disney; the creation of Disney Great Leader Strategies, which was used to train and develop the 7,000 leaders at Walt Disney World. This high impact, highly engaging learning event immerses leaders into Lee’s leadership framework taught at Disney and covers two specific precepts required to build a culture of excellence: Leadership & Service Excellence.

Workshop 2: The New Project Leadership Model: The Promise of the PM/BA Partnership in a Complex WorldKathleen Hass, Principal Consultant, KATHLEEN HASS & ASSOCIATES, INC.This presentation describes the subtle and not so subtle differences between the PM and the BA approaches to projects. It explores the differing perspectives, the complementary roles, the overlapping responsibilities, the differing view of scope, the overlapping communication channels, and the joint requirements and risk management responsibilities. We then describe the accountabilities and deliverables for the PM and the BA during the typical project phases: pre-initiating, initiating, planning, executing, monitoring and controlling, and project closing. And finally, we discuss the golden opportunities for the BA and the PM to collaborate to manage project complexity.
