Dear Kidpower friends and supporters,

Life is better for everyone when they feel safe. It is our responsibility as adults to ensure the kids in our families, neighborhoods and

communities know what to do if their personal safety is threatened. This year, thanks to your commitment, generosity and support, nearly 2,500 children and adults received Kidpower training. This means we now have trained more than 46,000 people to take charge of their safety since Kidpower started in Colorado 22 years ago.

Kidpower skills are essential tools for everyday living. We teach skills that enable young people to communicate effectively, build healthy relationships, and advocate for themselves and others.

As a community of caring adults, we are working together to prevent and stop child maltreatment including all forms of bullying, violence, and abuse. We provide kids and their adults with knowledge and skills to be safe and to thrive.

Kidpower presented sensitive information kindly and positively.

2015 Kidpower workshop attendee

All Kidpower workshops give children the opportunity to practice skills through carefully structured activities and role plays using realistic, nonthreatening scenarios. These include situations with peers and adults, both strangers and people they know. Each workshop also recognizes the primacy of parents and educators as students’ most important and influential teachers.

Children and teens learn:

• to recognize and avoid potential danger; • to be safe with technology;

• to walk, stand and move with awareness and confidence;

• to deal with bullies and peer pressure and to avoid bullying others;

• to deal with emotional coercion, intimidation and bribery;

• to use their voices and their bodies to stay safe;

• how and when to set clear, strong boundaries with people they know and strangers;

• to tell an adult if they feel unsafe and to persist until they get the help they need.

• to tell an adult if someone talks about having a weapon or threatens to harm another person;

In the last program year (September 2015 through June 2016):

65% of all students received needed financial assistance through grants and donations

57% in community programs experienced previous bullying, abuse or assault

396 people were surveyed regarding the quality of our school programs:

99.7% agreed the workshop was very useful for their children and increased their children’s level of awareness and understanding about interpersonal safety

100% agreed their children have learned Kidpower skills that are applicable in real life situations

99.1% agreed they have learned new ways to talk to their children about interpersonal safety

100% agreed the instructors were knowledgeable about safety education and taught the workshop in a clear and enthusiastic manner and would recommend Kidpower to other families
