    BIG TEN. BIG NEWS.• With a victory on Saturday and a Northwestern win over Wisconsin, Iowa secured a berth inthe Big Ten Football Championship Game and the outright Big Ten West Division tle. TheHawkeyes improved to 11-0 for the first me in program history, and 7-0 in the West Division.Iowa secured its first division tle and first berth in the conference tle game.

    • In the East Division, Michigan defeated Penn State and Michigan State edged Ohio State toleave the Wolverines, Spartans and Buckeyes ed for first in the division at 6-1. Michigan Statecan advance to the Big Ten Football Championship Game and earn at least a share of the divi-sion tle with a victory over Penn State on Saturday. If the Niany Lions defeat the Spartans,the winner of the Ohio State at Michigan game will earn the tle game berth and the outrightdivision tle.

    • With its win over Purdue, Iowa matched its school record for most victories in a season. TheHawkeyes, who are one of only two undefeated teams remaining in the country, also won 11games in 2002 and 2009.

    • Michigan State snapped Ohio State’s 23-game winning streak on Saturday. The streak rankedsixth in Big Ten history and was the longest for the Buckeyes since they won a school record 24consecuve contests from 2012-13, a streak that was also ended by the Spartans. Ohio Statehad won a Big Ten record 30 consecuve regular season conference games.

    • Aer a 250-yard rushing performance by Maryland’s Brandon Ross on Saturday, conferencebacks have now rushed for more than 200 yards six mes this season. Five diff erent confer-ence players have rushed for at least 200 yards in a game this season. Indiana’s Jordan Howardhas done so twice, while Iowa’s Jordan Canzeri and Akrum Wadley, Maryland’s Ross and OhioState’s Ezekiel Ellio have each rushed for at least 200 yards once.

    • Indiana quarterback Nate Sudfeld threw four touchdown passes and added a fih touch-down on the ground against Maryland on Saturday. This marked the second me this seasonthat he has been responsible for at least five touchdowns in a single game. The feat has beenaccomplished a total of five mes this season, as Michigan’s Jake Rudock, Ohio State’s J.T.Barre and Purdue’s David Blough have also been responsible for at least five touchdowns in agame this season.

    • Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota and Nebraska each have the opportunity to secure bowl eligibilitywith a victory this weekend. The Cornhuskers entertain Iowa on Friday afternoon. On Satur-day, the Illini face Northwestern at Soldier Field in Chicago, the Hoosiers visit Purdue and theGophers host Wisconsin. Seven teams from the Big Ten have secured bowl eligibility so far thisseason and the full list of Big Ten postseason destinations can be found on pages 3 and 5.

    The Big Ten football championship will be decided by a game played between thetwo division champions. A team or teams that are not eligible to parcipate in apostseason football bowl game as a result of NCAA and/or Big Ten sancons shall notbe eligible to parcipate in the Big Ten Football Championship Game. The winner ofthe Big Ten Football Championship Game will represent the conference in one of thebowls that comprise the College Football Playoff  - the Coon, Fiesta, Peach, Orange,Rose or Sugar Bowl. If the Big Ten Champion is ranked No. 1, 2, 3 or 4 in the final Col-lege Football Playoff  poll, the team will play in a semifinal game. Otherwise, the BigTen Champion will play in the Rose Bowl Game (when not hosng a semifinal) or the

    on, Fiesta or Peach Bowl.

    The following procedure will determine the representave from each division in theevent of a e:(a) If two teams are ed, the winner of the game between the two ed teams

    shall be the representave.(b) If three or more teams are ed, steps 1 through 7 will be followed unl a

    determinaon is made. If only two teams remain ed aer any step, thewinner of the game between the two ed teams shall be the representave.

      1. The records of the three ed teams will be compared against eachother.

      2. The records of the three ed teams will be compared within their  division.  3. The records of the three teams will be compared against the next

    highest placed teams in their division in order of finish (4, 5, 6 and 7).  4. The records of the three teams will be compared against all common

    conference opponents.

      5. The highest ranked team in the first College Football Playoff  poll  following the compleon of Big Ten regular season conference playshall be the representave in the Big Ten Championship Game, unlessthe two highest rankeded teams are ranked within one spot of eachother in the College Football Playoff  poll. In this case, the head-to-

      head results of the top two rankeded teams shall determine therepresentave in the Big Ten Championship Game.

      6. The team with the best overall winning percentage [excluding  exempted games] shall be the representave.  7. The representave will be chosen by random draw.

    If one or both of the Big Ten division champions is ineligible to play in the Big TenChampionship Game, then the parcipant(s) in the Big Ten Championship Game shalbe determined by the following procedure:a) If the ineligible team is ed for the division championship, then the team it

    ed with shall be the Big Ten Championship Game representave.b) If two or more teams are ed with an ineligible team for the division  championship, then the ineligible team is removed and the remaining teams

    revert to the e-break procedure.c) The division runner-up shall be the Big Ten Championship Game

      representa

    ve.d) If there is a division runner-up e, then the ed teams shall revert to the  e-break procedure.

    If the championship game cannot be played (due to any reason beyond the controlof the Big Ten Conference), the two division champions (using divisional e-breakersas set forth above) shall be declared co-champions and the following procedure willbe used to determine the Big Ten Conference representave to the College FootballPlayoff :

    a) Teams ranked No. 1, 2, 3 or 4 in the final College Football Playoff  poll willautomacally be placed in the College Football Playoff .

    b) If the two divisional representaves met previously in the season and neitheris ranked No. 1, 2, 3 or 4 in the final College Football Playoff  poll, the teamranked highest in the final poll shall be the representave to the CollegeFootball Playoff , unless the other team is ranked within five or fewer placesof the higher ranked team. In this case, the head-to-head results of the two

    teams shall determine the conference’s representave.c) If the two divisional representaves did not meet previously during theseason, the team ranked highest in the College Football Playoff  poll shall bethe representave.

    d) If the two teams are ed in the College Football Playoff  poll, the team withthe best overall Big Ten record shall be the representave.

    e) If the two teams remain ed aer d), the team with the best combinedrecord of the ed teams against all common Big Ten opponents each teamplayed that season shall be the representave.

    f) If the two teams remain ed aer e), the representave will be the teamwith the best overall winning percentage.

    g) If the two teams remain ed aer f), the representave will be the teamfurthest removed from College Football Playoff , Bowl Championships Seriesor Rose Bowl Game parcipaon (as appropriate).

    h) If the two teams remain ed aer g), the representave shall be determinedby a random draw.

    The Big Ten sponsors 28 offi cial conference sports, 14 for men and 14 for women, including the addion of 

    men’s ice hockey and men’s and women’s lacrosse the last two years.

    The Big Ten will continue to honor its past

    while recognizing its current standouts at the

    conclusion of the 2015 campaign. The Big

    Ten’s enhanced football awards program pres-

    ents 18 individual trophies in addition to the

    Big Ten Championship trophy, bearing the

    names of one or two former standouts. The

    distinguished names on these football awards

    honor just a small sampling of the countlessstudents and coaches who have contributed

    to the conference’s rich and storied history.

    Seventeen of the honors will be awarded

    immediately following the regular season,

    including awards for the best quarterback,

    running back, receiver, tight end, offensive

    lineman, defensive lineman, linebacker, defen-

    sive back, kicker and punter. Each of these

    individual position awards features the names

    of two former players.

    The Big Ten will also continue to honor the

    conference’s top coaches, offensive anddefensive players and linemen and freshmen

    with end-of-year trophies. Big Ten coaches

    have the opportunity to claim two awards.

    Media voters will select the Dave McClain

    Coach of the Year, which has been awarded

    since 1972, while coaches vote for the Hayes-

    Schembechler Coach of the Year award. The

    top offensive player will receive the Graham-

    George Offensive Player of the Year award,

    the best defensive player will be awarded the

    Nagurski-Woodson Defensive Player of the

    Year award and the best first-year standout

    will receive the Thompson-Randle El

    Freshman of the Year award.

    The winner of the Big Ten Football

    Championship Game will receive the Amos

    Alonzo Stagg Championship Trophy, while the

    most outstanding player in the game will be

    awarded the Grange-Griffin Championship

    Game MVP award. The conference also creat-

    ed two postcollegiate awards - the Ford-

    Kinnick Leadership Award and the Dungy-

    Thompson Humanitarian Award.
