After School Recreation Our afterschool program is designed for individuals with disabilitiesbut is open to all even if you do not have a disability. This programwill be at Erin’s pavilion in Southwind park and at the NelsonCenter in Lincoln Park. We will focus on fitness, nutrition, andhealth. We will provide a snack, recreational activities and time todo homework. This program is open to ages 5 and up and costs $50a week. Holiday CampThis is an all day Holiday camp for individuals with disabilities. Alldisabilities are welcome. Our holiday camp is one day at a time. Feelfree to sign up for all or just one. Special Olympics is a way to promote fun,sportsmanship, friendship, independence and goodhealth for the special needs population. Along withthe Springfield Park District, Special Olympics Illinois isoffering year-round programs with a wide range ofsports for athletes to choose from. With instruction inbeginning skills to world-wide competition, athletesfrom ages 8 to 99 are invited to explore this program.

Group Golf LessonsThe Springfield Park District will offer a series of four 1-hour golf lessons to be held on Tuesday and Thursdayevenings throughout the spring. Taught by PGAProfessionals, each session will provide instruction on allaspects of the game including pre-shot fundamentals,putting, chipping and full swing. Students will also get anopportunity to go on the course and learn properetiquette and the Rules of Golf. In addition, each studentwill receive a certificate for one 9-hole round of golf tobe used at either Pasfield or Bergen Golf Course. The Springfield Parks Foundation was formedin 1991 as a not-for-profit volunteerorganization. The foundation’s mission is toenhance the use, growth and preservation ofour parks.

With the addition of Southwind Park, theSpringfield Park District includes nearly 40neighborhood, recreational and regionalparks. General Park PoliciesPark Closing Policy All Park District parks will close at 10:30 p.m. This does not include the parks of Riverside,Carpenter or Gurgens Park that open at dawn and close at dusk. This also has no effect on the bike/pedestrian trails(Interurban, Wabash, Lost Bridge and Bunn to Lost Bridge) owned and or maintained by the Park District.

Park District Waiver A Waiver and Release of All Claims form must be signed when registering yourself or your minor child for Springfield Park District programs and/or memberships. Registration waiversare available at all Park District facilities or online at www.springfieldparks.org.

A resident is defined as anyone living within the boundaries of the Springfield Park District. Warning of Risk Recreational activities/programs are intended to challenge and engage the physical, mental, andemotional resources of each participant. Despite careful and proper preparation, instruction, medical advice,conditioning and equipment, there is still a risk of serious injury when participating in any recreational activity/program.Understandably, not all hazards and dangers can be foreseen. Depending on the particular activity, participants mustunderstand that certain risks, dangers, and injuries due to inclement weather, slipping, falling, poor skill level orconditioning, carelessness, horseplay, unsportsmanlike conduct, premises defects, inadequate or defective equipment,inadequate supervision, instruction or officiating, and all other circumstances inherent to indoor and outdoorrecreational activities/programs exist. Facilities Policy All facilities participants are expected to follow the rules of the facilities. Specialty areas of thefacilities have posted signs stating special rules specific to that area. Disregard or abuse of facility rules may result inremoval by staff or police from the facility for a designated length of time or permanently.

Vandalism Alert The Springfield Park District has experienced vandalism within several of its parks and buildings. Weneed your eyes and your help to stop these criminal acts. If you witness the act of vandalism please call the policeimmediately and report it by calling 911. If you notice graffiti and property damage in the parks or district buildings pleasecall the Springfield Park District Police at 698-6030. You may also make a report on the comment area on the website atwww.springfieldparks.org. Any assistance from our residents would be greatly appreciated in reporting and putting an endto these crimes. The Springfield Park District will prosecute these senseless acts to the full extent of the law.
