PRESIDENT’S REPORT – by Chris Clement Another season over and another successful season. It might not be in the way of premierships but the development of the Club as a whole. Tim Malane was announced as coach and he did a brilliant job bringing all his experience as a past premiership captain of the club. The training was organized and players knew exactly what was expected of them when they came to the Club. I think we all agree numbers at training this season were amazing with most Thursday nights having 50 players on the track, something we have not seen for a number of years. Brad Atholwood once again was the Junior Co-ordinator and through tough times did a great job with our junior program. Before the season some may not know that Brad caught up with previous Junior Co-coordinators and parents to try to develop a plan of attracting new junior players to our club. Every club goes through these times and we are working hard to get our junior club as strong as ever. On-field had its up and downs. I’d like to start by saying a big Thank-you to all our captains. This season was really tough in the selection room and week in week out you all chose teams that would benefit the development of the Club. The 1st XI went up to Longmuir Shield and ended the season with 4 and a half wins. This is just a base and I think it’s only up from here for our young group of players. The 2nd XI had a tough season but showed the Omega spirit by never giving up the whole season. I think the team that has got us all excited for the future was our 3rd XI. This season was just a glimpse of what these young players will bring to our club, not just on-field but also off-field. The 4th XI and 5th XI both had good seasons with youth and experienced players putting in their best efforts and coming home with some memorable wins that their players and the Club will remember for years to come. Our social calendar was jam packed with some new events happening at the Club. The Sportsman’s Night with Merv Hughes, Dale Weightman and Simon Helmot telling us stories that weren’t just interesting but also hilarious at the same time was brilliant and I think everyone who attended had a great night. We had a day at the dogs at Sandown Racecourse with the Club winning the Club Challenge with our chosen dog coming from nowhere to win!! Once again our end of season bash was a brilliant turnout acknowledging Milestone players for the season as well as all the award winners for the season. Tracey Fletcher once again hosted our long standing Ladies’ Day committing the Club to raising funds for the Jane McGrath Foundation through Pink Stumps Day. It was a bit different this season, having a High Tea party and judging by the response of the Ladies another successful day was had by all. Committee I would just like to thank everyone on the committee. If our members and parents did not take the time out of their life to step onto the committee the Club would not go round, so thank you for your time and effort over the season. Sponsors Mark Mosely did a brilliant job again this season. He not only kept all the sponsors from the following season but also then signed them for a further 3 seasons. This is a great result for our club in the future. Thank you Mark. I would also like to thank all the sponsors for the season and look forward to working with you in years to come.

PRESIDENT’S REPORT (continued) Final Message I would like to start by thanking all the members, family and friends for a fantastic season. Without all of you the Club would be empty, but with you all in it the Club is a family. I would like to personally thank the executive for their support throughout the season. I know if I am having issues with anything you are only a call away and that is very reassuring. Tracey Fletcher you are a Superstar!!! In closing I would just like to thank the Club for once again giving me the opportunity to be president. I have enjoyed the season and look forward to next season. I am excited for what’s in store for the Club, both seniors and most importantly the juniors. The Club is working extremely hard to build a powerhouse that will last a long time and it’s not far away. Remembrance It is also important to remember friends and family of the Club who were lost to us since last season:

• Charles Slucki – father of Jacob (Treasurer) and David (past player)

• James McKinley – past player

• Michael Woods – father of Peter (Captain of our 2nd XI) and Gerard (past player) and long-time sponsor of Omega CC

• Tom Corrie – father of past players Anthony and Greg

SENIOR COACH’S REPORT – by Tim Malane The 2015/2016 Season for the Omega Cricket Club was the platform for us to regain our position as a top Club in the SECA.

Instilling cricketing disciplines (off-side bowling and minimal poor cricket shots) was our key focus in the preseason and I am glad to say we saw steady improvement from our players throughout the season.

Building a foundation of fitness and strength, I believe is extremely important. With the help of Billy at Move IT Personal Training, we put in some really hard work. Those who attended certainly benefitted from these sessions (not the 7am Saturday morning start times though…).

However, we still need to improve in a number of areas, such as patience whilst constructing a batting innings and consistently bowling to our plans – as well as getting back to becoming the best fielding Club in the SECA.

Thank you to the President, Chris Clement and his Committee for appointing me as Coach, it was an extremely challenging season, but one I most enjoyed.

I would like to also thank our Captains, Ivan Delac, Peter Woods (and Jon Gillard), Vince Micalizzi, Vern Rozario and Chris Ryan. During the season these gentlemen not only captained their sides, they assisted with training, encouraged and challenged our players and showed real leadership to our young playing group.

Most importantly though, they supported the tough decisions that were made in the Selection room. Whilst not always agreeing with me, they stood with me – that is testament to their character.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the players for their hard work throughout the season. When the efforts you were putting in each week on the training track were not resulting in wins, you kept coming to training (in fantastic numbers), working hard and training with intensity – it is a credit to yourselves, well done.

Our plan moving forward, is to provide you with better structured and varied training sessions, more specialized coaching and a pathway for you to develop your cricketing and life skills.

What I want from you, is a commitment.

A commitment to attend our preseason, a commitment to play every game you can, a commitment to work harder than we did this season at training and a commitment to do everything to improve your game.

I look forward to that.

SENIOR TEAM REPORTS

Longmuir Shield – by Andy Ryan (Team Manager) Having won the Woolnough flag and our first 1st XI flag in 14 years, we went back up to Longmuir – hopefully the wiser for our experience up there two seasons ago, yet with a far younger and less experienced side. A solid preseason was had under new coach, Tim Malane and we retained our premiership captain, Ivan Delac.

• Round 1 v West Bentleigh (one day game) – Batting first against an eventual top-two finisher, we managed only 76 with only Ivan Delac and Matt Caia achieving double figures. Steve Lay took 4 wickets in a spirited bowling and fielding display by our lads that saw them lose 7 wickets before they passed us.

• Round 2 v Elwood – Bowling first, we kept Elwood to 8/216 when it threatened to be a lot more. Chris Clement was magnificent, bowling with what turned out to be a season-long injury, taking 3/29 off 20 overs. After a good start with the bat, we lost wickets steadily and finished 62 runs short, with Caia making 36, Michael Fletcher 28 and Anthony D’Amico 26.

• Round 3 v Washington Park – The low point of the season, as we lost outright by 10 wickets to the side that finished top. Only Michael Fletcher and Brad Atholwood passed 20 in the first innings of 78 and nobody did in the 2nd inning of 85. We only took 3 wickets for the match. The word around the traps was that we would be winless for the season.

• Round 4 v Bentleigh ANA – The recovery started here with a home game where we made 185 in almost 72 overs. Top scorers were Glenn Beckett with 41, Matt Caia 38 and Bryce Judd 24. Despite a slight ‘tail wag’ from the visitors, we rolled them for 159, with Clemo starring with 5/46 off 22 overs, and Judd and D’Amico claiming 2 each. On the board!

• Round 5 v Carnegie South – Something of a grudge match (well, at least for the scorer!). Batting first, we compiled 169 off 71overs against disciplined bowling after being 4 for 19. Matt Caia starred with 83 and probably threw away a ton. Bryce Judd contributed 23. After they looked the winners for half the day, disciplined bowling collapsed the middle order and we rolled them for 140. Clemo did it again with 4/34 and Juddy returned figures of 3/21.

• Round 6 v East Sandringham Boys’ Club – Travelling to East Sandy, we bowled first and really took it to them, rolling them for only 154 on a lightning-fast ground. The wickets were shared, with Steve Lay taking 4/39, Juddy 3/27 and Clemo 3/30. Unusually, two ESBC bats were clean bowled not offering a shot. In reply we were 2 for 21 overnight, but a heatwave caused the cancellation of the following week, robbing us of a chance to take a big scalp.

• Round 7 v Mackie – Batting first – and one short – after the Christmas break we were dismissed for 131 in the face of disciplined bowling. Ivan Delac top scored with 43 and Anthony D’Amico at No 8 chipped in with 31. We were up against a quality batsman who happened to open their innings - and made a century - with the result that we only took the one wicket before we were passed. Back to earth with a thump.

SENIOR TEAM REPORTS Longmuir Shield (continued) • Round 8 v Brighton Union – The second of the post-Christmas one-dayers saw

us face a team we hadn’t beaten for a decade in the Firsts. Bowling first, we steadily took wickets and dismissed them for 134. Clemo starred again with 4/15 off 7 overs, and Paul Taberner, the 50 year old Longmuir debutant, took 3/35 with his left arm spinners. In reply, we buried the 10-year hoodoo, passing them 5 down with 5 overs to spare. Glenn Beckett returned to form with 61 not out and Delac contributed 22.

• Round 9 v Kingston Heath – With a mathematical chance of finals, yet still not out of the relegation zone, we batted first on a very slow ground and lost our last wicket on the last ball of the day – the first time we’d batted 72 overs in 3 Longmuir seasons. Beckett scored his second 60 on the trot and Fletcher made 21 at the top of the order against a disciplined bowling effort. Defending 149, the still-injured Clemo took 4/19 off 15 overs, Taberner 3/30 and D’Amico 2/32. We took the last 6 wickets for only 33 and won by 46.

• Round 10 v Bentleigh Uniting – Bowling first on a small, fast ground on a very hot day, we were looking down the barrel of chasing 320 at one point, but the boys showed some grit and kept Uniting to 9/268 by day’s end. D’Amico was outstanding with 5/70 off 27 overs – his first Longmuir ‘five-for’ – and Clemo continued his brilliant season with 4/73. Despite recording our highest score of the season in reply, we fell short, ending our finals aspirations. Brayden O’Toole made 49, Delac 46 and Judd 26 and three others made starts, but we wasted 8 full overs in losing what was a very winnable game.

• Round 11 v CHAG – Batting first, we managed only 133, Delac top-scoring with 57 and Beckett contributing 42. No other double figure scores were made and disappointingly we lost our last 8 wickets for only 42 runs. Attempting to cheaply dismiss the team with the lowest number of wickets lost in the comp this season was always going to be tough and we only claimed three before they passed us. Clemo finally succumbing to his season-long injury didn’t help – but he still took a wicket! Juddy took 2, as did Brad Atholwood who took 2/1 in his first ever Longmuir over. He unfortunately bowled another…

Season totals Most runs – Glenn Beckett 235, Ivan Delac 211, Matt Caia 210, and Michael Fletcher 152 Most wickets – Chris Clement 29, Anthony D’Amico 13, Bryce Judd 13, Steve Lay 11 Most catches – Glenn Beckett 9 (and 3 stumpings), Ivan Delac 6, Brayden O’Toole 6, Matt Caia 4 (and 4 stumpings) It is testament to the application and determination of this team that – with what could reasonably described as an inferior line up (on paper) to that which was demoted two seasons ago – they briefly threatened for a finals spot, despite an appalling start. They were extremely well-led by Ivan – especially after the devastating round 3 loss - and I strongly urge anyone with any influence over him to persuade him to continue as captain next season, as he possesses an outstanding ‘cricket brain’ and superb leadership and motivational skills.

SENIOR TEAM REPORTS Longmuir Shield (continued) Thanks again to our regular supporters this season; the lap-walking D’Amico family (who seem to have recruited Tracey!), Frank Caia, Paul O’Toole - and Pete Wanless. And grateful thanks to our helpers, the Prez (well done again, Clemo) and the committee, the repeatedly amazing Tracey Fletcher - and Clemo’s Mum. Really enjoyed being a part of this season – I get the sense that the boys finally realise that they belong in the top grade. I also want to remind those playing in the 2nds and 3rds that there will be opportunities in the coming seasons – if they are prepared to work – to be a part of bigger things to come.

Quiney Shield – 2nds – by Peter Woods It was a tough season for the second eleven in terms of wins and losses with only winning one and a half games but this young team really became competitive from round 4 onwards.

With the average age of the 2nd XI being 18, this young group developed the necessary skills and showed improvement over all three areas of the game, which is something to look forward to for future years to come at Omega.

The season started in a one day match with Omega vs West Bentleigh. We lost the toss and had to bowl first. We restricted West Bentleigh to 8 for 160, which was a good effort on a small ground. The pick of our bowler was Luke Wescombe, Jake Weickhardt and Chris Silvers who all took 2 wickets. In reply we could only manage 77.

Round 2: We played Le Page Park and again lost the toss and were made to bowl. Le Page got off to a great start being 4 for 144 but the team soon managed to bowl Le Page out for 188, thanks to an outstanding bowling spell from Luke Wescombe finishing with 6 for 33 off 14 overs and back up from Ben Kelly, who took 2 wickets. Unfortunately we struggled, and were bowled all out for 82 with Luke Wescombe and Corey Smith our only players to make over 20 runs.

Round 3: We played Victorian Cavaliers, excitingly enough it was a close match. The match started off looking promising for a win with Corey Smith and first gamer Paul Taberner taking 3 wickets each to give us a lead on the Cavaliers, 7 for 77. A few overs passed and they got away from us with their end score by making 171. In response we came up just 11 runs short, being bowled out in the last over for 160. We were very unlucky. The pick of the batsmen was Ben Kelly with a really gutsy 37 runs.

Round 4: We played Cheltenham Park and for the first time this season I won the toss and decided to bat first. We struggled throughout the game to make runs and were bowled out for 115 with Kane O’Toole performing with the bat scoring 27 runs. Cheltenham Park chased down the score very quickly, passing our score with the loss of only 5 wickets. All 11 bowlers tried their best with Kane O’Toole and Paul Taberner taking 2 wickets each.

SENIOR TEAM REPORTS Quiney Shield – 2nds (continued) Round 5: We played Carnegie South and in my absence Jon Gillard took over as Captain. Carnegie South batted extremely well making 238 on a very fast ground with Chris Silvers taking 3 wickets. In response we put up an excellent effort, falling 26 runs short and being bowled all out for 212 with a magnificent 107 not out from Luke Wescombe who batted the whole inning for his first senior century and was well supported by Gianni Mercuri 42 and Jon Gillard 32.

Round 6: We Played Southside and we were robbed by the weather. We won the toss and batted first and finished with 4 for 184 which is a great score at Bricker Reserve with Luke Wescombe making runs again with 44, Ben Kelly 35, Kane O’Toole 44 and stand in captain Jon Gillard 32 not out. Then on day 2 we were heated off and settled for a draw.

Round 7: We played Mackie in a one day match and were out-classed by the reigning premiers. We bowled first and Mackie made 216. Luke Wescombe took 3 wickets and Paul Taberner chipped in with 2 wickets. We were bowled out for 118, with the pick of the batsmen being Luke Wescombe 32 and Ben Kelly 28 not out.

Round 8: We played Brighton Union in a one day match and put up 5 for 138 which was about par for the season. Luke Wescombe with 58 and Ben Kelly 24 were the stand out batsmen of the match. Brighton Union passed us 5 wickets down. We dropped some important catches which was disappointing to experience, knowing the capabilities of the team. The pick of the bowlers was Kane O’Toole with 2 wickets.

Round 9: We played CUCC Kings. The day finally came in this season and we won our first game. We won the toss and batted making an impressive 239 runs. We decided as a team to declare. Luke Wescombe made another impressive century with 111 not out. Other contributors were Ben Kelly, 57 and Harry Russo 52 not out. In reply CUCC Kings were never in the game being bowled out for 151 with Chis Silvers taking 4 wickets.

Round 10: We played Highett West and made 156 with Luke Wescombe making 56 and Kane O’Toole 32. Highett West passed us too easily with the loss of only 3 wickets thanks to Jarryd Wilson.

Round 11: We played Hampton Central and bowled first. We got off to a great start and had Hampton Central 6 for 100, they then got away from us and ended up making 270. The pick of the bowlers being Jarryd Wilson with 3 wickets. We tried hard and made 186 with Luke Wescombe 87, Ben Kelly 30 and Nick Vawser 30.

Well done boys on a challenging season. I look forward to seeing this group develop more into skilled cricketers and win few more games.

I would like to personally thank Tim Malane for all the help he gave me throughout this tough season. Thank you to the committee for giving me the opportunity to captain this great group of young cricketers and lastly thank you to all the parents who helped out with canteen duty. Enjoy your time in the off season and good luck for next year.

SENIOR TEAM REPORTS

E Grade – 3rds – Vinnie Micalizzi Looking back on season 2015/16 for the 3rd XI, I can't feel anything but pride for the season that we had. Playing with upwards of six Under 16 players every week, I watched the team grow as a group, while individually watching them blossom as senior cricketers. We started the season slowly as we first came up against the eventual premiers East Oakleigh, and although they convincingly beat us, the signs of genuine talent were there for all to see. The next two games saw us play two other teams that would contest finals, and here was the beginning of James Tulley's extraordinary season. JT produced back to back 40s whilst opening the batting. While James was impressing with the bat, Luke Nunn produced an amazing spell of bowling, taking 6/40 and also taking 3 catches, in one of the highlights of the season. While we went down fighting in our chase of 267 falling 40 runs short, we saw another incredibly talented player make his debut in the 3rds. Adam Vanek ended up on 29 no and showed that he'd be a big part of our season. After a disappointing loss in Round 4, we bounced back the next game to have our first win against Kingston Heath. In a nail biter we got over the line by one wicket. In this win we saw the emergence of what would be our opening batsman for the remainder of the year, with JT joined by Adam and they started brilliantly by putting on 61. Also in this game was the start of our opening bowling partnership, with Luke and Ben Taberner spearheading our attack, and both flourished taking 3 wickets each. Round 6 saw us take on the eventual runners up in Washington Park. Although this game ended in a draw due to the heat rule, to me it was by far our best bowling and fielding effort for the season. We ended up bowling WP out for 185 on a small, quick ground. Luke the star again with 4/26. Round 7 saw the emergence of another two talented kids, Ben Hibbert and James Caia. James bowling with genuine pace to trouble all batsmen and grab 3 wickets, while Hibb made a brilliant 44 in a partnership of 92 with JT. James finishing on 89 no as his season went from strength to strength. Unfortunately we ended up losing by 17 runs. Round 8 we snared our second win with a good effort against Highett West. With Adam starring with both bat and ball (43 & 4 wickets), it was fantastic to see Cam McKenna back in the side after injuring himself early in the season. Macca is the ultimate team man, and came down to all our games whilst injured and scored for us, which was appreciated so much and the boys loved having him there. Round 9 we were completely outplayed in the first innings, but bounced back in the second innings to bat all day and avoid outright. Dave Delac in his first season of cricket, gutsed it out with the bat to be one of our better contributors. Round 10 saw us have our most emphatic win, totally destroying Cheltenham Park. This game produced two of the best individual performances, JT scoring his maiden ton, a brilliant 140, while Neeraj Sareen took an amazing 7/40. Nick Vawser (63) and Hibb (57) also getting amongst the runs.

SENIOR TEAM REPORTS E Grade – 3rds (continued) We finished the season off in style by beating Melbourne Wanderers. After making 270 on the back of half centuries from Dutchy Holland, Adam Vanek and Sam Bridges, we looked shot as MW cruised to 4/223, but the boys dug deep to take 6/14 to win. JT and Tabs taking 3 each, while Tabs took 2 match winning catches to finish a season where he improved every game. In the end we finished 7th with 4.5 wins, but winning for 3 out of our last 4 matches, and our major contributors throughout the season with bat and ball were our kids. Congrats to JT for winning our batting award with an amazing 450 runs at an average of 50. Luke Nunn for winning our bowling with 19 wickets and Adam Vanek for his outstanding fielding throughout the season. Thanks to Tim, Clem and the committee for giving me the opportunity to captain such a talented group and to Tim for the amazing job he did as coach. Many thanks to the other captains Moosey, Woodsy, Vern and Cliff for all their support. Thanks to all the parents for the constant help, afternoon tea, and support. You made my job so much easier. To Trace, thanks always for all your hard work behind the scenes. We're fortunate to have the world's greatest secretary, and we all appreciate everything you do. Lastly thanks to everyone who played in the 3rds this year, it was one of my most enjoyable seasons and I can't wait to see the majority of you playing in higher grades in the years ahead.

F Grade – 4ths – by Vern Rozario Our season in the 4ths only resulted in 2 wins and a draw, but pitted against a majority of 1st, 2nd and 3rd XIs it was always going to be a tough year. Nevertheless we were always generally competitive and despite a high churn rate of players each round (we used 38 different players throughout the season), we did see some definite improvement as the season progressed with a number of players promoted to the higher grades and holding their spots up there, including Adam Vanek, David Delac, Jarryd Wilson and Raj Sareen. Jarryd took out the batting award with his most consistent year so far with the bat, averaging 30. Ever reliable Greg Nunn won the bowling average, clinching it with a last round season best performance of 4 for 28. The fielding award was won by James Pedersen. JP took 8 catches and effected 2 run-outs from a limited amount of games reinforcing my view that he is one of the best fielders in the club. Other notable performances included the consistency James Campbell provided as an opening batsmen for the entire season. JC weathered many a new ball with some good crease time and I’m sure he will begin to convert those starts into some bigger scores next season.

SENIOR TEAM REPORTS F Grade – 4ths (continued) Leigh Ryan shouldered the responsibility of opening the bowling and while he will be disappointed with his total haul of wickets (6), he produced enough unplayable deliveries to suggest that he is going to trouble plenty of higher grade batsmen in the upcoming years. Warren Henricus was a bonus ‘find’ for us late in the season scoring heavily with the bat including a match winning 72no in our victory over Carnegie South, while Tommy Smith found some late season form with a 68 in the same game along with a 47no in the last round. Ayden Rogers and James Campbell also proved to be handy partnership breakers on a number of occasions taking timely wickets whenever they were given the opportunity. Both of them will benefit from another good preseason that should allow them to bowl longer spells and more consistent ‘spot’ bowling. Odin Karis was the surprise packet for me this season, bowling some long spells with excellent control for a young leg spinner and seemed to just be approaching his best bowling as the season ended. His 3 wickets in the round 10 victory came at a crucial time and kept them to a score that we were eventually able to chase down. Last but not least Harrison Mosley did a wonderful job behind the stumps in the last 4 games of the season and just needs to convert his good starts at the top of the order into bigger contributions. I’m sure we will be hearing a lot more highlights from all these players over the coming years as they all make their way up the grades. I would also like to thank all the older heads who helped me out during the season when we were undermanned, especially John Holland, who still has so much to offer our club with both bat and ball. Also Paul Karis, who is a leader both on and off the field and a great example of what effort is required to be successful during both training and match days. Thanks to Charlie Yanni for stepping in to lead the side and give this ol’ body some much needed rest. Thanks Trace (world’s greatest secretary) for keeping the admin in order off the field, Clemo for your support and encouragement during the week, and Vin for your support at training. Lastly, a special thanks to the club coach Tim Malane for your support and advice throughout the season. I have no doubt our improvement as cricketers this season can be put down to your efforts and the environment you have created at training. I’m sure a return to being a successful club throughout all the grades is not far away.

SENIOR TEAM REPORTS

G Grade – 5ths – by Chris Ryan The 5ths started with plenty of optimism but on our very first day we lost Mick Aldred to a torn achilles which I believe was a huge blow to our chances of success. But we managed to build a team that over the season was fun to be with but at times frustratingly inconsistent. I believe we were very competitive in most games and but for a bit of luck may have made finals. Tiger and Benny had outstanding seasons and Amay continued his improvement from last season. Pipes started the season in great form but injury took its toll. Dylan was solid behind the stumps and Troy will continue to improve with more work. Bharvin had a better season and won us a memorable game at Kingston Heath. Mark Mosley had a solid second half of the season and although Shane didn't have a great season statistically he was always working hard at training to improve. Bluey was Bluey and showed us all how to play the game hard but to then have a laugh afterwards. To Danny and Riley Maher, Paddy Allman, Wazza Henricus and Stefan Krull, thanks for helping us throughout the season – a sincere thank you. Thanks to all who played for the Dreamteam and hope I have helped them enjoy their cricket. Special mention to Pipes and Bluey for their unbelievable support throughout the season. I'd also like to thank Tim Malane and all the captains for their support as well and believe what Tim has implemented this season has and will continue to propel this great club back to where we belong. Thanks to the committee also for their tireless work it is much appreciated.

SENIOR TEAM REPORTS

Twenty/20 – by Ivan Delac Omega CC had an exciting T20 tournament, although only registering one win there was much gained from the experience. Our players took the opportunity to showcase their aggressive talents across the three matches and showed some glimpses of what they are capable of. Despite the shorter format, we were unable to sustain those glimpses for long enough. Unfortunately our somewhat inexperienced team was exposed to some quality outfits. Round One

Carnegie South Vs Omega Unfortunately this game was rescheduled due to inclement weather and resulted in Omega fielding a unique, yet exciting team captained by Matt Caia. Omega batted first at Lord’s Reserve and posted a respectful 7/138. It was former Omega junior gun – Kye Horsnell who starred with 50 impressive runs including 4 boundaries and 1 major. With Carnegie South fielding a strong team and needing 6.9 runs per over, it was the senior Carnegie batsmen that feasted on our inexperienced bowling line up securing the win in 15 overs only 3 wickets down. Round Two

Kingston Heath Vs Omega Omega again batted first on a very slow Southern Reserve. Unfortunately our 2-day format batting woes continued, only posting 8/108 with Ivan Delac scoring 49. The bowlers didn’t stand a chance with such a minimal score; Bryce Judd was the pick with 2/30 off 3 overs. Carnegie South reached the score only 4 down, inside 15 overs. Round Three

Omega VS Le Page Park Playing on Bricker Reserve, against a Woolnough Club and a former Coach brought out the best in the Omega XI. Le Page batted first and posted a confronting 152 runs off their 20 overs. It was Bryce Judd again the pick of the bowlers with 3/23 off his 4 overs, while well supported by Chris Clement, Corey Smith and Steve Lay picking up 1 wicket each. The game ended in a draw, with a more even contribution from the batsmen. Steve Lay and Ivan Delac top scored with 39 each and Brayden O’Toole found some form with an impressive 34. A tied score means a bowl off in T20, with the first bowler to hit the stumps declared the winner. The result was never in doubt, despite relying on our 9th bowler to be the first to achieve the feat.

JUNIOR CO-ORDINATOR’S REPORT – by Brad Atholwood The 2015/2016 season was again full of ups and downs, with some of our programs excelling while others needed further attention. Luckily the constant at Omega CC is our past and present players and families lending a hand to help along the way which is very much appreciated. We met early in the year in an effort to maintain our numbers whilst growing from the bottom up which will still be the goal leading into future seasons. Our club faces challenges with our junior program heading forward, however none of which are insurmountable with the continued buy in of our volunteers. So I urge all to hang tough and with continued work the wheel will turn and Omega CC’s junior program will again reach the heights that are expected of it.

Whilst numbers were thin, on field success in individuals and teams were not hard to find with our U12 Omega/Mackie merged team enjoying success in being the eventual runners up after those boys had gone through back-to-back winless seasons. Congratulations to all players, coaches and families, especially Joey Spicuglia who was the boys’ coach for the season and for the second year in a row did a great job.

Our U16s team went through a transitional year with the changing of coaches. Sam Bridges and Chris Silvers took over as co-coaches for the season and instantly built great relationships with the boys, which allowed the team to progress all the way through to the semi-final. Many of these boys play seniors at the club and have built a brilliant rapport with the senior group, something the club hopes will continue long into the future.

The U18 team had an extremely interrupted season due to a poorly constructed competition, often having their games called off on Friday night due to not having a team to play. Through this however we were able to hang together and reach a semi-final where we were beaten by the eventual premiers. I greatly appreciate Paul O’Toole and Lyle Horsnell for your help coaching the team throughout the season as I know your patience would have been tested.

This season we also entered a combined U16 all girls team with McKinnon CC in the All Girls Cricket competition. Girls’ cricket is a fast growing sport within the Melbourne Metropolitan region and being one of the first clubs to enter a team is something the club should be proud of and look to stockpile for future seasons. The girls had heaps of fun and all jelled well together, often winning their matches with ease. Thanks goes to McKinnon CC for their help getting this program off the ground, but also to Sam and Mick Bridges for looking after the team for the season.

Our Milo Program was positive this year with our early season recruiting being able to attract 15 keen new youngsters of both genders. Going forward if the club can maintain its numbers from the previous season and continue to attract more and more boys and girls to play milo cricket, the program will soon change from positive to strong. Our Milo Coordinators would be among the best in the region I would say, so congratulations must go to Michael Fletcher, Nick Vawser and Kane O’Toole on their work with the kids and the relationships they build with them.

Have a great off season all, and I look forward to catching up at the start of next season!

JUNIOR TEAM REPORTS

U18 Report – by Paul O’Toole The season seemed to fly along this year and I guess it was mainly due to teams dropping out or unable to field teams in certain rounds which became frustrating as the season unfolded with the players unable to have any continuity in their cricket. The team itself also had its share of ups and downs with players coming and going due to pathway football, studies and other commitments which left us with a core group of roughly 9 players who were fantastic with their commitment to the team. We made it through the season dropping only one home and away game which was a great result considering that apart from two of the players in the team, our list was mainly made up of first year Under 18 players. We did make it to a semi-final losing a well fought match against the eventual premiers McKinnon who were probably that little bit better than us this season but I couldn't be any prouder of the boys for the fight that they had in them not only on that night, but for the entire season. The team was captained by Khy Horsnell who led from the front with his batting and bowling and was our eventual winner of the batting average award for the season with 178 runs at an average of 35.6. Jonty Ho, who has been a tremendous competitor for the club over the years, continued his great form with the ball taking out the bowling average award for the team with 13 wickets at an average of 10.7. Considering that we missed four matches due to either inclement weather or forfeits, it was a great achievement by both players. Tom Harrington was a standout in the field with his infectious enthusiasm and determination which resulted in him taking out the fielding award and our final coachs’ award was presented to Ben Kelly who was also a worthy recipient with his efforts with the bat and in the field throughout the season. Special thanks to the parents who provided food for the players each round and for the support shown week in and week out. Without Lyle Horsnell's support with the scoring each week and the MyCricket entries, I wouldn't have been able to manage the team without him. There were others who helped from time to time with umpiring duties including Chris Harrington, Brayden O'Toole, and Brad Atholwood which was greatly appreciated. Thanks very much for allowing me to coach the boys this season and I am sure that with the talent coming up from the Under 16s, the team should be very competitive in season 2016/17.

JUNIOR TEAM REPORTS

U16 Girls’ Report – by Sam Bridges The Omega/McKinnon combined girls’ side enjoyed a very up and down season in the first year of this competition. To begin with, there were concerns that the team wouldn’t get up due to the fact that numbers were tough to find, but to the girls’ credit they rallied behind each other stringing enough players to form a side. For a team that, some weeks, could only field 6 or 7 players, these girls showed how talented they are. They defeated teams with 11 or more players on more than one occasion, often playing with half the amount of people! They didn’t just rely on one person either, with some players who had never even played before dominating against girls from other teams who had played for years. I’d like to thank all of the people from McKinnon Cricket Club who helped form this team and keep it together through the whole season, especially to Lisa Hill who was there each week and was essential to this side being formed. Also a big thanks to Brad who held down the Omega side of things.

U16B Report – by Sam Bridges & Chris Silvers The Omega under 16’s team were a thoroughly enjoyable team to coach this season. From the beginning of the season we could see that this group had all the talent to have a strong season, and even though we didn’t make it all the way the boys can be proud of what they achieved. To see the improvement from not just one player but each and every one of them was a credit to the commitment and unity between this team. It was made easy for both Mini and myself due to the fact that all these boys had grown up playing cricket together, and therefore all we had to do was try and bring out the talent that they all had. What became of that was some great individual performances as well as some impressive team wins that each of the players can be proud of. Firstly, on behalf of Mini and myself, we would like to again thank all the parents who came down and supported the kids throughout the season. It builds a great culture around the team and the Club when we have such support at every game, and I know other clubs are extremely jealous of the afternoon teas that the families put on. I’ve never seen such excitement in Mini’s eyes when that first spread was put on, and it felt like he was more interested in what he would be demolishing at the 20 over break than actually coaching the kids! Secondly, I’d like to thank Brad, Chris, Tim and the committee for the work they put in to the Under 16s this season. It was clear right from the start of the season that the Club had a lot of time for this group, and to their credit they stuck by their commitment and it paid off. I know these players appreciate all the effort put in behind the scenes, and playing under legends such as Vinnie, Laxy and Cliffy has made sure that they will develop into great cricketers. Finally, to all the boys who played this season, both Mini and myself had a great time coaching and really enjoyed how you listened and made our jobs that much easier. There’s nothing better as a coach than seeing how much every single player has improved over the season, and at Omega it’s not just about the best player in the side, but about the team as a whole and I can safely say that every single player has become better this season and we look forward to playing alongside you boys next season.

JUNIOR TEAM REPORTS

U16 Twenty/20 – by Sam Bridges & Chris Silvers The under 16’s T20 season was a very interesting one. We played against three U16A sides, but to the boys’ credit they worked hard in each game and ended up coming away with one win and two losses. The first game we played against Ormond was our best showing. We bowled first and restricted them to 107 off their 20 overs, with Cam and Adam being the pick of our bowlers, taking two wickets each. We chased this score down in 17 overs, James Caia making 36 and Adam 22. Unfortunately though, we allowed one of the players from Ormond to take a hat-trick. With the hat-trick ball coming up, out strolled a confident Ben Hibbert, who to his credit had a very good season in the juniors with the bat. The ball was sent down and, in all his wisdom, Ben got down on one knee and attempted to sweep a ball off middle stump. Safe to say the umpire’s finger was in the air as soon as it hit his pad and Ben walked off with his tail between his legs. Our other two games were played against very good opposition in Brighton and Kingston Heath. Highlights of these games include a great partnership between James Tulley and Ben Hibbert against Brighton, who each made 50 runs after a tough start for our top order, as well as a great 48 from Harry Mosely against Kingston Heath. Overall, it was a great experience for the kids and we could tell they had a lot of fun playing in these games.

U12DReport – by Joey Spicuglia The season started with a logistical issue. Unfortunately, with a number of our last season’s under 12s growing older and playing higher age cricket, we were left with a shortage of players. With the formation of Mackie’s under 12 side, who were also short on numbers, Mackie/Omega Under 12 team was born. Playing in D division meant that the competition was entirely 20 overs per side, so it was vitally important in teaching the team the importance of hard running between the wickets, building large scores, fielding well and bowling tight and attacking lines.

From the outset of the season, the side instantly showed improvements, notching up their first win as a side in more than 2 seasons. This was a massive stepping stone for the team and instantly jelled the team together, who initially barely knew each other’s name. The team dynamic started to grow with each passing week and heading into the Christmas break above the ledger at 6-3; a fantastic position to be in given the circumstances. The boys attacked the post-Christmas adjournment with gusto, with the major highlights on the journey to the finals including:

• Jordyn Joubran retiring on 20*, which came during a fantastic season for Jordyn

• Patrick Joubran’s final ball heroics to snatch victory from a rampaging Cluden bowling attack

JUNIOR TEAM REPORTS

U12D Report (continued) • Josh Yanni developing into a consistent and exciting all-round cricketer

• Ethan Macbeth spearheading the bowling line up with his tremendous ability to blast batsmen out with swing and pace

The brand of cricket showed by the side was exciting, with sharp fielding becoming the norm, as well as dangerous and aggressive batting that turned many games on their head. There were many pleasing aspects about the way the team conducted themselves on a weekly basis, and it was fantastic for the squad to qualify for finals.

The Preliminary final was a hands down, 100% success. Against the well-disciplined, top placed Brighton line up that had previously limited our batting innings to 19, Mackie/Omega completely dominated proceedings with a fantastic 10 wicket win, chasing down 74 with 6 overs to spare. It was the pinnacle of the season for us, which unfortunately couldn’t be replicated a week later, bowing out to a well-deserved South Melbourne group.

It was a fantastic season on the whole for the Omega U12s, with plenty of improvement to be seen. Individually, every player loved the experience of playing with new team mates, and the thrill of finals brought the best out of the team. On a personal level, I’d like to thank Junior Coordinator Brad Atholwood for making the season possible, as well as team manager Lida Joubran who organised the whole season fantastically.

Milo In2Cricket Report – by Michael Fletcher Our Milo program really picked up this year with a lot of new faces and our kids being a year older.

Everyone improved immensely as the year went on in all aspects of cricket while most of all still having fun. For the first time in a few years we were able to play games of cricket which says a lot about their improvement and willingness to learn.

All this would not have been possible without all the help from the parents who were sensational helping set up, pack up, running drills and helping when we lost control!

An even bigger thank you needs to go out to all the people who helped out over the weeks, especially Nick Vawser and Kane O’Toole for being absolute guns. You boys were the reason we had so much improvement this year. Another thank you to Brad, Clemo, Jill and Tracey for opening up and cooking the snags.

I look forward to hopefully seeing everyone return for an even bigger year.

Pink Stumps Day a big hit

Omega Cricket Club’s First XI got in the spirit of Pink Stumps Day.

Omega Cricket Club held its annual Ladies’ Day on Saturday in conjunction with Pink Stumps Day.

It is the third season Omega has played in the pink stumps but it was the first time its First XI participated.

Omega not only won the one-day match against Brighton Union CC, which helped support the day, but also collected more than $300 in donations on the day plus $660 from the raffle/auction which does not include $356 donated so far on its website: http://pinkstumpsday2016.gofundraise.com.au/page/OmegaCricketClub2016.

The ladies had a great day featuring a high tea with all profits from the raffle/auction being donated to the Jane McGrath Foundation.

Omega Cricket Club has an unfortunate history with breast cancer. It has lost people who were dear to it and has had a number of people who have fought and beaten the disease. Two members are currently fighting the fight.

Clean sweep for Omega Club Champion Luke Wescombe snaffled so many trophies at Omega’s season wind-up that he needed two mates to carry them to the car.

The 19-year-old won the club’s Quiney Shield batting (68.13) and bowling (17.39) averages, was club champion, scored the most runs (545) and took the Omega Medal (points given across all senior games).

The university student polled in 10 of the 11 rounds, scoring 27 votes from a possible 33.

Fifteen-year-old James Tulley also polled well with 19 votes, polling in eight matches.

Wescombe also hit two unbeaten centuries – 111 and 107 – and picked up the South East Cricket Association Award for aggregate runs for Quiney Shield through to the One Day Grade.

PHOTO GALLERY Trivia Night

Above: We had a few people turn up early for the Trivia Night – VERY early (as in the wrong week!!!!)

Three people were brave enough to volunteer to win extra points for their table by singing a rendition of Slim Dusty’s ‘I’d love to have a beer with Duncan’. While Wayne McKenna and Chris Ryan made admirable attempts, Odin Karis won the points hands down. Below Left: Winners are grinners!!! Congrats to the Wescombe, Smith and O’Toole families for being the winning table!!
