MISSION STATEMENT

Hunterdon County Polytech provides Career and Technical Education in a positive student-centered environment where all students are able to reach their full potential.

PHILOSOPHYPolytech is committed to offering a hands-on, work-based education that will prepare students for post-secondary educational opportunities or immediate entry into the workforce. Our students work with state-of-the-art technology and equipment and receive hands-on training in a variety of fields. Students create portfolios for college, gain valuable industry experiences and credentials, and develop career skills before leaving our programs. Students can gain leadership skills through the National Technical Honor Society and National Art Honor Society and have the opportunity to compete in state and national competitions through SkillsUSA, Family Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA), Health Occupations Student of America and FFA. Polytech works closely with local businesses, industries and academic institutions to ensure that our students are college and career ready. Our focus is on applied technical theory and academics that are required for students to obtain industry recognized credentials along with articulated and concurrent college credits.

CAREER AND TECHNICAL PROGRAMSStudents choose to come to Polytech as part of their high school experience. We attribute our success to providing students with career and technical programs that allow them to concentrate in areas of study that interest them. All of our instructors have extensive background experience in their field. Many of our programs now offer high school academic credits along with their practical arts credits to meet high school graduation requirements. Ask your counselor for other academic credit opportunities. Several programs provide the opportunity for students to earn concurrent college credits that are transferable to many colleges and universities. Approximately 80% of our students further their education at colleges and technical institutions upon graduation.

APPLYING TO POLYTECHThe online application is accessible from our homepage (www.hcpolytech.org). You can also find a copy of our admissions policy here. Students are required to submit an application by March 1, 2016, for admission. Please note several programs have specific GPA requirements or require an interview, portfolio review or audition. Applications are accepted for new, returning, home-schooled, out-of-county, and post-graduate students. For questions regarding our specific programs, please contact Mrs. Tanya Nalesnik, at 908-788-1119 ext. 2029. Students and parents are encouraged to visit programs of interest prior to enrollment. To arrange a visit, contact Ms. LoSapio at 908-788-1119 ext. 2010 or [email protected]. You can also visit our website at www.hcpolytech.org.

Note: Post-graduate tuition and bond payments must be paid when submitting the application. The application will not allow a post-graduate student to apply without payment. ANIMAL SCIENCE

ANIMAL SCIENCE PROGRAM

The two-year Animal Science program enables students to relate principles of science, anatomy and physiology, and medical terminology in order to guide decision-making related to an animal’s health. This includes preventive care, as well as disease and illness diagnosis and treatments. Students practice animal health care, safe handling and diagnostic techniques in a hands-on environment. Students care for a wide range of exotic and domestic animals in the classroom including reptiles, cats, dogs, ferrets, rabbits, mice, and chinchillas. Students will have the opportunity to perform routine procedures on live animals such as medical testing, sample collections, administering medication, delivery, vaccinating and ear tagging. The operation of the program’s public grooming clinic provides students with skills in grooming dogs, while acquiring knowledge of business operations and learning customer service skills. Second-year students will focus their studies on small or large animals and will participate in a structured learning experience at a local veterinary or equine facility. Upon graduation, students further their post-secondary studies in animal-related programs or enter directly into the workforce. Students can take advantage of college credits and articulation agreements with Centenary College, Delaware Valley University, and Harcum College.

During the past year we have continued to work hard as a district to make great strides in enhancing and expanding our program offerings. Our greatest challenge will always be to do our best to meet the needs of each and every student. As stated by our mission statement,

“we provide Career and Technical Education (CTE) in a positive student-centered environment where all students are able to reach their fullest potential”. Our successes are the results of the district’s sincere contributions, hard work and commitment to our mission.

ADULT & CONTINUING EDUCATION provides educational opportunities for adults to acquire technical skills to begin a new career, enhance existing skills, or to enrich personal lives. We believe lifelong learning is a necessity for everyone and afford all students the opportunity to keep abreast of changes in technology allowing them to remain competitive in the work environment.

COMPUTER SCIENCE AND SOFTWARE ENGINEERING ACADEMY (CSSEA ) is a full time vocational high school that is housed at Delaware Valley Regional High School (DVRHS). Through a unique partnership with DVRHS, students enroll in academic courses offered through DVRHS, as well as computer science courses created by Project Lead The Way (PLTW), a 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization, as the lead curriculum provider.

BIOMEDICAL SCIENCE sequence allows students to investigate the roles of biomedical professionals as they study the concepts of human medicine, physiology, genetics, microbiology, and public health. Students engage in activities like investigating the death of a fictional person to learn content in the context of real-world cases. They examine the structures and interactions of human body systems and explore the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of disease, all while working collaboratively to understand and design solutions to the most pressing health challenges of today and the future.
