2016-2017 Yamaha YXZ1000R/SS/SE Tree Bar Installation Instructions

1. On the OEM skid plate, remove the bolts closest to the outside of the YXZ Chassis, so that you are able to rock the skid plate downwards on the outside while the inside stays mounted. You will also have to remove 1 bolt on the front wheel well of the skid plate, and 3 bolts in the rear wheel well.

a. You will be able to see two parallel horizontally positioned frame members if you do this correctly. You will also be able to see an unused mounting bracket.

2. Remove the driver and passenger seats from the unit 3. On both sides, remove the small section of side plastics that has

“Yamaha” extruded from it.

a. When you do this, you will be able to see the lap belt mounting bracket. On both sides of the vehicle, temporarily unscrew and remove the bolt from the lap belt mounting weld nut.

b. On the right side of the vehicle, you will be able to see another horizontal frame rail that braces the gas tank. We will be using this rail to mount the tree bar in the rear on the right side.

4. We can now start bolting down the tree bar mounting brackets. 5. On the right side, Bolt the right inner square tube mount

(Reusing the OEM bolt) to the gas tank frame rail so that it fits around the chassis tube (the lap belt tab is welded to the chassis tube). Before fully bolting down this tube, slip the plastic section with “Yamaha” on it under this tube. You will notice there is a contour in that section of plastics that follows the chassis. The square tube will sandwich that contour once the OEM gas tank frame rail bolt is tightened. However, do not fully tighten this bolt yet.

6. On the left side, you will need to bolt the left inner mount to the inner side of the OEM lap belt weld nut. This is necessary because the chassis is asymmetric. After lining up the left inner square tube mount, you will need to thread the provided M12x1.25x50 bolt through the inner side of the OEM lap belt weld nut (opposite of how the bolt is threaded from factory). Place a washer between the left inner square tube mount and the OEM lap belt weld nut like so. Do not fully tighten this bolt yet.

a. You may need to momentarily move the interior plastics to be able to tighten this longer bolt.

b. IMPORTANT NOTE – If you are using OEM seat belt, you must stack a provided M12 washer against the OEM lap mount bracket to space the mounting properly.

Bolt will thread towards the outside of vehicle rather than inside, like OEM.

7. Now that you have the rear inner mounts bolted in, it is time to attach the front mounts. Use the small handle on the nut holder to position the nuts behind the OEM unused tab, and position the mounting plates as shown below. Full tighten bolts.

8. We are now ready to temporarily but loosely bolt on both nerf

bars to align the rear mounts. First get the front mount bolts started, and then align the rear. Very loosely bolt the rear into place so that the Inner and outer mounts are aligned. Now we can finally fully tighten the OEM M08 bolt on the right side gas tank frame rail, and the provided M12x1.25x45 bolt on the left.

a. The provided longer-than-oem M12 bolt should’ve acted as a stud, on the left side, for this loose alignment.

b. Use the OEM provided lap belt bolt on the right side to secure the outer mounting square tube

9. After you have fully tightened the inner mounts, you can now remove the nerf bars and prepare the plastics for drilling clearance holes.

These are the mounts that you need to make sure are aligned before you

fully tighten the inner mounts.

10. You must do this one side at a time. Thread the 2 set screws, by hand, roughly 2-3 threads BACKWARDS into the front mount and rear mount so that the pointy cone is towards you and the outside of the vehicle.

a. These set screws will act as a locator for when you drill the skid plate

11. Now, rock the skid plate back into the OEM position while keeping track of the locations of the set screws. Get a hammer and hit the location where you think the set screws are. This will create a divot in the skid plate to start the hole.

12. Drill hole using a 1 1/8” drill bit/hole saw. Any type of drill bit will work for this application.

13. Bolt OEM Skid plate back in to place 14. Bolt your Houser Racing YXZ1000R Tree bars into place,
