Message from the President
Welcome to the Division 45 Convention Program in the mile high city of Denver! We have an excellent program planned by Anita Mihecoby and Kyle Hill (Program Co-Chairs). This program focuses on The Multitude of Colors in the Weaving of Psychology: The
Unrecognized, Uncelebrated, and Hidden Contributions. Some of the special presentations include Dr. Sidney Stone Brown discussing “Transcending Greed: Native American Self-Actualization” and Blackfoo t philosophy on self-actualization. Drs. Joseph Trimble, Jeff King, Ryan HeavyHead and Jerome Bernstein, MA, highlight the contributions of American Indians to the work of Erik Erikson, Carl Jung, Abraham Maslow, and Sherif and Sherif. The James Jones Conversation Hour presented by Carletta Tilousi, elected tribal council member of Havasupai Tribe, will discuss culture and ethical research among minority populations. These and many other important topics regarding culturally competent teaching, research and practice will be presented by leaders in culture, ethnicity and race.

Message from the Program Chair
This program supplement is designed for ease in navigating your way to division 45’s programs and special events at this years APA convention. In this supplemental program you will find the full list of Division 45 programs including invited sessions, collaborative programs, symposia, poster sessions, skill-building sessions, social hours, and the divisional business meeting with information about the cultural demonstration brought to you by the Native American Women Warriors Color Guard. Also included is a list of multi-cultural focused programs presented by divisional allies that may be of interest. Last, you will find the division’s hospitality suite programming located in the Hyatt Regency Denver Hotel.
A special thanks goes out to the program committee including program co-chair Kyle Hill, PhD, graduate assistant Melissa Wheeler, BA, Navajo Nation, Tina Lincourt, Jack Sample, and Greg Urquhart for their year-long commitment to this program. The Native American Women Warriors Color Guard will open the Division 45 business meeting. This cultural demonstration offers a healing ceremony that is much needed within APA while honoring warriors, people of color, and psychology. The all female color guard are from different tribes and veterans from various branches of the military. They wear jingle dresses of red, white and blue with large beaded emblems of their branch of service on their backs. They also have the women’s designation of unit and rank, as well as U.S. flags and Iraqi Freedom patches. They include former U.S. Army Sergeant First Class BigMan as President, Vice President and former U.S. Army Command Sergeant Major Julia Kelly and Secretary and former Marine Corps Sergeant Sarah Kristine Baker.

Carletta Tilousi, a life-long advocate for the protection of the Grand Canyon and current elected tribal council member for Havasupai Tribe, has worked for more than twenty years promoting social and environmental justice for the Havasupai Indian Tribe and indigenous people of the Grand Canyon. She will share about her life and social justice work in the canyon and provide us with lessons her
