JAN. / FEB. 44 2016 CALIFORNIA STATE Precision Pistol Championship RESULTS by Roy Sasai T he 2016 State Championship was held at Sacramento Valley Shooting Center in Sloughhouse, CA, June 4th and 5th. Competi- tors elected to shoot the Precision Pistol match on either of those 2 days. Both days experienced 98 degree temperatures under a covered firing line, with Satur- day experiencing overcast conditions and Sunday, bright sun. The match was a 270 shot competition (2700), followed by 3 Distinguished matches each requiring 30 shots. Each competitor received a com- memorative shirt, pin, and lens cleaning kit. This venue has an additional benefit of an onsite store where you can purchase ammo if you didn’t have time to reload all the ammo required. Over 22 competitors from across the state came to compete in the NRA Preci- sion Pistol 2700, Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) Distinguished service pistol, CMP Distinguished .22, and NRA Distinguished revolver match. Shooters from as far north as Chico and as far south as San Diego came to compete. Two shooters achieved “Distinguished” by earning the last points required for the coveted Distinguished Pistol Shot Badge, Mark Freedman (Service Pistol) and John Bickar (.22 Pistol). Nearly half of the competitors had additional match pres- sure to contend with, because their scores would also be used in the selection pro- cess for the state pistol team to represent California at the 2016 National Matches at Camp Perry, Ohio in July. It was a full day of precision pistol marksmanship. At the end of the last match, the firing line erupted in applause for match director Bob Huddleston and the CRPA for spon- soring this event.
