ultimate gifts

1. 100X pure beaver felt hat ($1,000), www.shortyshattery.com.2. Platinum Coach trailer ($149,000), www.texastrailersunlimited.com. 3. Cadence Golden South Sea pearl earrings with 18kt yellow gold and diamonds ($4,200), www.pearlsbyshari.com.4. Coral and sterling concho belt by Navajo artist Leonard Nez ($16,763), www.samsvillegallery.com.5. Hand-tooled antique doctor’s bag with hair-on-hide ($949), www.vogtsilversmiths.com.

This is an old doctor’s bag that’s been given a face-lift, and a good one at that. It’s not only exquisitely restored but the design updates are fittingly refined. I love how the inset hair-on-hide creates a striking contrast to the classically tooled leather.

— Holly Henderson, Fashion Editor1. Antique saddle and cognac overlay boots ($308), www.corralboots.com. 2. Big Shot Cowgirl fold-over calf-hair clutch ($335), www.orisons.co. 3. Royston squash blossom by Donovan Cadman ($8,250), www.perrynulltrading.com.

Custom bolo with Sleeping Beauty turquoise ($698), www.wildinstincts.net. 9. Turquoise stone on black leather bracelet ($115), www.jewelryladyredriver.com.10. Leather and turquoise cuff ($295), www.jerrytuckerjewelry.com.11. Thin thunderbird cuff ($258), www.richardschmidtjewelry.com.12. Beaded cuff with concho details ($1,100), www.desertsagebeadart.com.13. Black Tahitian pearl bracelet ($1,000), www.wendymignot.com. 14. Boulder opal bracelet ($115), www.lauraingallsdesigns.com.

I like Lynn Harrisberger’s designs because they’re so different from what we normally see in Western jewelry. I love a turquoise squash blossom as much as the next, but this design is unlike anything currently in my jewelry box. It gives new meaning to one-of-a-kind.

We’ve traditionally seen fringe in handbags and apparel. Then it was boots, and now jewelry, which is exciting. These Vincent Peach deerskin earrings are at the top of my list of fringe must-haves; the contrast of the leather and delicate Tahitian pearls makes them stand out.

This hat gets my vote for several reasons. First, it represents the premiere hat collection designed by Double D Ranch, a favorite of mine. It’s also so interestingly styled. It has both classic and contemporary elements, and befits both current mainstream and Western trends. I can just as easily picture it on a Dallas urbanite as on a cowgirl. — Holly Henderson

This is my favorite of all of our top picks — and I don’t even play chess. It immediately got my attention when looking through submissions. I couldn’t keep myself from unwrapping just one more piece to see what it was. The hand-carved and -painted details are incredible, and the set is much larger than you’d imagine from the photo. It’s like having a lively Old West town for a coffee table. — Holly Henderson
