SCOTTNETKOVICK

HEAD COACHTHIRD SEASON

Career Record: 32-37 (.464)

Student-Athlete(2005-2008)

During the 2012 season, Coach Netkovick helped direct the Blazers to a 9-9 conference record and the fourth seed in the NECC Championship tour-nament.

The following season, Coach Netkovick helped guide Elms to a 20-20 overall mark – the pro-gram’s highest ever win total – and a spot in the 2013 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Championship. The team’s berth in the ECAC Championship was also the first in program history. The Blazers earned the seventh seed in the tournament and downed second-seeded Castleton State College, 9-3 in the quarterfinal game before falling to No. 3 MIT in the semifinal contest.

Coach Netkovick also brings playing experience and familiarity with the program to his coaching position at Elms. A four-year member of the team from 2005-08, Coach Netkovick was instrumental in helping the program take shape. He started 80 of the 98 games he played with the Blazers and collected 53 hits with eight doubles, five triples, three home runs and 33 RBI. He had an on-base percentage of .389 and a slugging percentage of .386 during his career and was five for five in stolen base attempts.

During his four years as a player, the program improved each season going from four wins in its debut season to 12 in 2008. As a junior in 2007, Coach Netkovick hit .378 in 23 games played, connecting for 14 hits in 37 at-bats. Following the season, he was named Second Team All-North Atlantic Conference (NAC). As a senior, Coach Netkovick hit .295 with 18 hits and amassed a slugging percentage of .492 and started 28 of 30 games played.

Coach Netkovick enters his third season as the Elms College head baseball coach. During his first two season as head coach, Netkovick has compiled a 32-37 record, owning the second-highest winning percentage in program history.

Under Netkovick’s second season of watch, the Blazers reached the New England Collegiate Conference Championship game for the first time since the 2009 season. Elms registered a record of 19-17 during the season, with an 10-8 record in conference play. The Blazers claimed the #2 seed in the NECC Tournament, where they fell to champs Mitchell College in a three-game series. Three players earned NECC All-Conference honors with Brady Forrest (First Team), Jordan Zima (First Team), and Michael Bombard (Second Team). Zima became the first Blazers player to be named to the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) All-New England All-Star Team with a Second Team designation. As a team, the Blazers set program records in complete games (13), saves (6), and strikeouts (253), as well as the team record for strikeouts in a game with 16 against Becker on April 16th.

In his first season at the helm of the Blazers pro-gram, Netkovick’s squad posted a 13-20 record overall, and an 8-10 mark in the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC), earning a berth in the conference tournament. Five players were cho-sen as NECC All-Conference selections after his first season with Tom Weldon (First Team), Brady Forrest (Second Team), Nolan Medeiros (Second Team), Tim Gelzinis (Second Team), and Zach Dreher (Honorable Mention).

Prior to taking the reins as the head coach, Coach Netkovick was an assistant coach with the program for two years under former head coach Nathan Bashaw. He also served as the Assistant Director of Annual Giving at Elms for five years.

Sister Mary Reap previously served as president of Mary-wood University in Scranton, Pennsylvania, from 1988 to 2007. Founded in 1915 by the Sisters, Servants of the Im-maculate Heart of Mary, Marywood was the first Catholic women’s college in Pennsylvania.

A native of Archbald, Pennsylvania, and raised in Bing-hamton, New York, Sister Mary was called to her vocation in her third year as a student at Marywood College, joining the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in 1961. She earned a bachelor of arts degree in Spanish from Marywood in 1965 and a master of arts degree in Spanish from Assumption College in 1972.

She returned to her alma mater as a faculty member in 1973 and later held positions as the dean of the undergraduate school for women, chair of the education department and graduate department of education, director of the off-cam-pus degree program, and director of international students. In 1979, she earned her Ph.D. in curriculum and instruc-tion from The Pennsylvania State University.

During Sister Mary’s presidency, Marywood established many new undergraduate, graduate and doctoral degree programs, including majors in physician’s assistant, art therapy, aviation management, biotechnology, information sciences, and sports nutrition and exercise science.

In 1997, Sister Mary led the transformation of Marywood from a college to a university. In 2003, that process was manifested in the restruc-turing of the university into four colleges: Liberal Arts and Sciences, Education and Human Development, Health and Human Services, and Creative Arts and Management. The College of Creative Arts and Management is among the first of its kind in the nation, recognizing the emerging trend of blending business and art in the development of educational and career opportunities.

After her retirement from the presidency of Marywood in 2007, Sister Mary coordinated the work of the International Affairs Office at Mary-wood, and served as a senior consultant for Yaffe & Company, a firm which specializes in leadership and governance services for not-for-profit organizations. She also served as president of the Middle States Association, the organization of colleges and secondary schools recognized as the regional accrediting body for educational institutions in six states, United States territories, and other institutions abroad. She conducted numerous campus accreditation visits for both the MSA and the Pennsylvania Department of Education. In addition, she served on the board of Moses Taylor Hospital in Scranton, and served two terms as a member of the Presidents and Bishops Education Committee for the United States Conference of Bishops.

Ellen McEwen was appointed as Elms College’s Director of Athletics in August of 2014, bringing more than 30 years of collegiate athletics administration, teaching and coaching experience to her position at Elms and has completed stints at all three NCAA division levels as well as the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).
