    The Louis Jones Memorial ScholarshipThis scholarship was established in memory of the late Louis Jones, Fire Chief for the City of Roswell, New Mexico who died in the line of duty on March 26, 2002. Louis was a twenty-year veteran of the department, and had been the chief for about one year. The Louis Jones Memorial Scholarship is intended to honor his work and dedication to the New Mexico Fire Chiefs Association.

    SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA

    ELIGIBILITY• Applicant must be a child or grandchild of an active member, associate member, or active life member of the New Mexico Fire Chiefs Association.• The applicant shall have a minimum of a 3.0 GPA upon completion of senior year in a high school or previous college term. (Transcript required.)• Good moral character as attested by the letters of rec-ommendation will be required. Two letters of recommen-dation must be submitted with the scholarship applica-tion of which at least one letter must be from a faculty member from the last school attended.• Applicant must submit an essay of at least two hun-dred-fifty words on how this scholarship will help f u l -fill their educational and career goals. • Must submit a letter signifying acceptance from the in-stitution of higher learning.

    SCHOLARSHIP AMOUNTThe New Mexico Fire Chiefs Association Board of Directors shall determine the dollar amount available for scholar-ships and the number of scholarships to be awarded on an annual basis. Funds will be coordinated between the New Mexico Fire Chiefs Association and the student or the student’s choice of the secondary educational institution selected.

    SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONThe New Mexico Fire Chiefs Association must receive ap-plications no later than July 31, 2017.

    SCHOLARSHIP SELECTIONThe President of the New Mexico Fire Chiefs Association will appoint a Scholarship Committee to review and select the applicant(s) who best meets the established criteria. The Chairman of the Scholarship Committee will present the committee’srecommendation to the New Mexico Fire Chiefs Association Board of Directors for final approval. The Scholarship Committee will notify the recipient(s) when the selection is made.

  • The Linda Gaume JaramilloMemorial Scholarship

    For the fourth year, the NMFCA will offer the Linda Gau-me Jaramillo Memorial Scholarship. Linda was NMML Staff Liaison to the NM Fire Chiefs Association and played an instrumental role in the NM Fire Service Conference (NMFSC) for many years.

    SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA

    ELIGIBILITY

    • Applicant must be an employee or volunteer of a City, County, State or Volunteer Fire Department.

    • Applicant must be a paid member in good standing with the New Mexico Fire Chiefs Association

    • Applicant must submit a complete application.

    SCHOLARSHIP AMOUNT

    One $200 scholarship per year will be awarded for con-ference registration fee. Funds will be coordinated be-tween the New Mexico Fire Chiefs Association and the New Mexico Municipal League. Applicant is responsible for their own transportation, lodging and meals that are not provided as part of theconference program.

    SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION

    Scholarship will be posted to nmfirechiefs.com the week that the NMFSC meeting notice is mailed. Applications for scholarships may also be obtained by contacting a NM Fire Chiefs Board Member or the NM Municipal League. The New Mexico Fire Chiefs Association must receive ap-plications no later than deadline set for that year’s confer-ence. Scholarships will be accepted by mail, email or fax until close of business on deadline date.

    SCHOLARSHIP SELECTION PROCESS

    The President of the New Mexico Fire Chiefs Association will appoint a Scholarship Committee to review and select the applicant who best meets the established criteria. Scholarship recipients will be notified by email no later than one week prior to the Conference.

    If you register, submit payment and are awarded a schol-arship, your registration fee will be reimbursed.

    Should an applicant not be awarded a scholarship and still wish to attend the Conference, early registration rate will be honored.

    Scholarship is non-transferable.
