CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS

To support the current and anticipated growth on West O‘ahu, Councilmember Kymberly Marcos Pine

works with the City to design and construct new infrastructure improvements that benefit our

residents, improve our quality of life, and keep our communities safer. (Please see the map below.)

The City conducts public meetings on the City's annual Capital Improvement Plan every year from

March to June during the annual budget bill hearings.

You can participate in the Capital Improvement Plan process by contributing comments and

suggestions about needed services and improvements.

The public meeting schedule is usually posted in early March of each year. Councilmember Pine

encourages you to participate in this process to be a part of planning your own community. For more

information, feel free to email [email protected] or call her office at (808) 768-5001.

FY 2016 BUDGET

WAIANAE ROADS UPDATE

As the City's budget process approaches this March, here are some of the projects in the Mayor's

proposed budget that I am fighting to secure. Each of these projects is part of the City's investment

of over $30 million in District 1 capital projects and will improve the quality of life for our Leeward

Coast residents.

2016 Capital Improvement Projects Funding Include:

WAIANAE COAST EMERGENCY ACCESS ROADS PROJECT $3,000,000 for providing a secondary emergency access road for Leeward Coast residents. WAIANAE WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT IMPROVEMENTS/UPGRADES $1,501,000 for planning, designing, construction and inspection of improvements at Waianae wastewater treatment plant. REHABILITATION OF STREETS $100,000,000 for design, construction and inspection of streets and related improvements at various locations throughout Oahu, including Ewa, Waianae and Kapolei. MAUNA LAHILAHI BEACH PARK PROTECTIVE BREAKWATER $100,000 for planning, designing and construction of park improvements. RECREATION DISTRICT NO.3 IMPROVEMENTS $1,500,000 for planning, designing, construction, inspection, and providing related equipment for park improvements. BUS AND HANDI-VAN ACQUISITION PROGRAM $21,282,000 for purchasing buses and handi-vans. LEEWARD COAST LANDFILL COMPENSATION PACKAGE $1,350,000 for park improvements in communities from Kaena Point to Kapolei.

Mayor Kirk Caldwell recently held a

press conference at Piliuka Place and

Waianae Valley Road to announce the

beginning of a road repaving program

on the Leeward Coast. The City has

committed to repaving more than a

hundred lane miles of Leeward Coast roads —The project starts in Waianae Valley, and moves to Nanakuli and

Maili this summer. Future repaving projects are also in the planning phase for Makaha and other Waianae

Valley roads.
