Competition includes the North Coast Shield - a regional competition, which offers a friendly introduction into Representative Basketball. BBBA teams are often victorious in U12 boys and girls and U/14 Boys and U/16 Boys. All BBBA teams played in the finals. Representative schedules now include Northern Junior League NJL, which offers a more competitive structure within Basketball NSW and pathways to State level. All teams made it to the finals in the recent past. Representative team managers are always part of representative competitions booking accommodation, bench scoring, liaising with the Finance Committee, holding WWCC and First Aid certificates. 6. Senior Representative men’s team has formed and is in training. Senior representative women’s teams will soon join in. 7. Codes of Conduct and the Grievance Procedure are found on the website www.byronbasketball.com. The Board of Directors is active in noting behaviour that does not abide by the Codes of Conduct. When necessary a Grievance Procedure is put in place. The Board will also convene a Tribunal when necessary. 8. Officials i.e. Referees and court controllers - these officials have the responsibility to enforce the rules and maintain the order of the game. The title of official also applies to the scorers and timekeepers, as well as other personnel who have an active task in maintaining the game. It is well understood in world sports that basketball is regarded as among the most difficult sports to officiate due to:

! The fast speed of play ! The complexity of rules that must be followed, ! The unique case-specific interpretations of rules ! And the instantaneous judgement required

We ask that you demonstrate patience, tolerance and good manners while supporting your child, spouse, team. There is zero tolerance of abuse toward all members of BBBA including officials and all children under 18 (Child Protection)

9. WWCC and First Aid. Working With Children Checks are necessary for referees, coaches, team managers and anyone else who is working in close physical proximity to children under the age of 18. A First Aid Certificate or equivalent is advisable for coaches, team managers and a necessity for anyone acting in the capacity of Court Controller. The Board of Directors will pay for First Aid or Refresher courses on request.

10. Coaches – most local teams have a coach. As a parent you can approach a person to coach your team. It is important that all coaches have a current Working With Children Check (not necessary if your child is in the team). A Provide First Aid certificate is encouraged. It is important that the coach is a member of BBBA and has read and agreed to the BBBA Coaches Code of Conduct, which includes, ‘coaches are required to abide by BBBA Work Health and Safety and Risk Management

Scrimmage – for seniors is organised weekly, sometimes more often – check the website and the link to Facebook for regular details. 13. Courses for Coaches, Referees, Court Controllers and Bench Scorers – the BBBA Board of Directors has a commitment to quality and professionalism in all its endeavours. Court Controllers are a vital part of each competition – please consider stepping up for this [email protected] Court Controllers help set up and take down the equipment, help manage the game ensuring all behaviour on and off court is in accordance with BBBA Codes of Conduct.
