WelcomeTrue North Strong and FreeCowichan Performing Arts Centre (CPAC) celebrates Canada 150 with a stellar line-up of Canadian performers. Celebrate the sesquicentennial with us by supporting Canadian artists from all over the nation. Just look for the Canada 150 logo in the brochure beside the names of Canadian

legends such as Barenaked Ladies, Burton Cummings, The Legendary Downchild Blues Band, Corb Lund, Stephen Fearing, Shane Koyczan and others.

We have three Canadian dance troupes that will ignite a passion for dance: Flamenco Rosario, Toronto Dance Theatre and Canada’s Ballet Jörgen. And our national broadcaster CBC is represented in full force with radio shows This is That and The Debaters.

We, at CPAC, recognise that the First Nations in Canada have lived here for 12,000 years and pre-date the formation of Canada. So, as we celebrate Canada 150, we also honour the Truth and Reconciliation process and acknowledge that there is a long road ahead of Canada on the path of reconciliation.

The Cowichan Performing Arts Centre recognises that it is situated on the unceded territories of the Cowichan First Nations.

Kirsten Schrader Manager, CVRD Arts & Culture

Shane KoyczanMonday, December 4 / 7:30pm

“... a symbol of hope … Canada’s best known spoken word poet.” - CBC The NationalHailed as one of the greatest poets in Canadian history, Shane Koyczan is a truly extraordinary talent. With a long list of international awards and honorary titles including Winner of the US Slam Poetry Championship and the Canadian Spoken Word Olympics, he has blown the dust off the traditional designation of poet. Powerfully engaging and authentic, his explorations are relevant to our times in the way that Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, Gord Downie and Leonard Cohen are to theirs. Unlike the musicians that he’s often compared to, poets rarely infiltrate pop culture. Shane Koyczan emerges in a new wave of 21st century poetry that dares to belong to the people and speak directly to them in their own voice.
