About Amberley Museum What can you see at the Museum? Support the Museum

@amberley _museum /amberleymuseum

Visit the De Witt Kilns and quarrybuildings and see the ‘Life and Lime atAmberley’ exhibition to discover moreabout working life at the chalk pits.

The narrow gauge railway and busservices provide free transport to explore the site, offering manyopportunities to get up close to commercial vehicles, rail and roadsteam engines. We aim to have both the train and bus running everyday we are open but due to the age of the vehicles this is not alwayspossible.

Age old skills are kept alive by craftspeople and volunteers working totraditional methods. Meet the woodturners, wheelwrights, potters,blacksmith, printers and greenwood workers. We aim to have at leastthree crafts demonstrated each day we are open, but this isdependent on the schedules of the independent craftspeople. If thereis a particular craft you would like to see, please contact the MuseumOffice in advance of your visit.

Amberley Museum was established in 1979, and seeks to reflect theindustrial and transport heritage of Sussex. The Museum is not set ina particular period of time, but allows you to explore exhibits fromaround 150 years ago up to the present day.

The site of the Museum was once a largeand busy chalk quarry and limeworks, andits buildings and kilns are now preservedalongside buildings that were rescuedfrom other locations, and erected withinthe Museum to house and display ourexhibits.

Covering 36 acres with over 40 exhibits, the Museum is home to aunique collection of listed buildings and scheduled ancientmonuments, many of which were rescued from the Sussex area.
