NIAGARA TO NYCThe first ever Bike For Africa, North America Edition will take place in October 2017. This edition will be a road biking adventure from Niagra Falls to New York City over about six days of wind in your hair, sun in your face biking. BIKE FOR AFRICA The entire Brussels Airlines and Lufthansa Group community are passionate about Africa, and with 90+ years of experience in the continent, Africa holds a special place in the heart of Brussels Airlines. Since 2011 Brussels Airlines’ philanthropic arm, the b.foundation has been producing Bike For Africa events with the aim of bringing people together in a biking trip and having fun doing good for the people of Africa. After three previous editions in Rwanda, Uganda and Senegal / The Gambia, Brussels Airlines is thrilled to bring this incredible road biking experience to North America for the first time. This North America Edition will benefit two fantastic organiza-tions; The Georgie Badiel Foundation, bringing clean drinking water to the nation of Burkina Faso, and Malaika, empowering Congolese girls and their communities through education.

TRIP ITINERARY OCTOBER 7TH - Arrive Niagara, transfer to Buffalo
Depart from your point of origin (either U.S., Canada or Belgium) to arrive to Toronto, CA or Buffalo, NY. We ar-rive early afternoon and we transfer directly to Niagara Falls to see one of North Americas’ most famous sites, the great Niagara Falls. Its waters flow between Erie and Ontario Great Lakes, with the greatest flow rate of any waterfall in the world. The site is awe inspiring and literally takes your breath away! We then transfer to our Hotel in downtown Buffalo where we have a welcome meal before a good night’s sleep.

OCTOBER 8th – Day 1 Cycling (Buffalo, NY to Olean, NY) 119 km
Our Hotel is in the centre of the town of Buffalo and after a good early breakfast we start our ride through town. We stay together for the first ten kilometres as we get to the outskirts of Buffalo, past the American Football stadium and the suburb of North Boston. Once out of town we are quickly in the lush countryside and we cycle through the towns of Springville, Machias, Franklinville before finishing a tough first day in the town of Olean.

OCTOBER 9th - Day 2 Cycling (Olean, NY to Wellsboro, PA) 129 km
Today is our longest and one of the toughest cycling days as we make our way along the valleys of the Denton Hill National Park. We follow the Pine Creek river for part of the day, which eventually flows into Pine Creek Canyon, otherwise known as Pennsylvania’s very own stunning mini Grand Canyon. Along the way we cycle through country that the Amish community still live and work the land. The quality of the roads is for the most part very good today and we cycle into some truly stunning scenery, passing quickly through the towns of Shinglehouse, Sweden and Gold, before eventually arriving in Wellsboro. Tonight we stay in the towns historic central hotels. Dinner will be in hotel resto.

OCTOBER 10th - Day 3 Cycling (Wellsboro, PA to Towanda, PA) 97 km
After a good breakfast in our lovely hotel we start on the route which leaves for Towanda on the Old Elk Run Rd heading east through the historic lands of the Algonquin Indians whose tribal lands stretched all the way to the north of Toronto in Canada. We have rest stops and lunch in the small mainly farming towns of Charleston, Sylvania, Troy and Burlington and our day ends in Towanda which is set along the banks of the Susquehanna River.

We leave Towanda along the banks of the Susquehanna River which accompanies us on most of the morn-ing ride. After lunch in Tunkhannock we head into Wyoming County and soon hit the foothills of the Endless Mountains which form part of the great Appalachian range. Now halfway through our ride we start to see more signs of the approaching west coast, with towns growing increasingly in size. Tonight we stay in Wil-kes-Barre with its population of half a million it is the biggest town we have passed since leaving Buffalo.
