Faith Flame
“Well, that went way too fast.” We usually find ourselves saying that about anything that we
really loved, and had such a good time during it. A lovely evening with people we love, maybe din-
ner, and then sitting around talking and laughing. A great vacation, where we had such a good
time, saw so many things, just a real blast, and then we say, “Well, that went way too fast.”
That’s what I usually say after watching a great movie: “Wow that went really fast.” How many
times have you ever come out of a really boring, dragging movie, lecture, sermon, or anything and
say, “Well, that went way too fast?”, probably not! The reason we say that is because it was so
great, so tremendous, with so much fun, that we are lost in the wonder, and when it’s over, we
can’t believe it, because it went so fast.
I wonder if, after being with Jesus for three years, did the disciples say, “Well, that went way too
fast,” as they watched him ascend up into heaven? As the Apostle John looked back on his life in
the Island of Patmos, a life filled with miracles, conversions, excitement, danger, persecution, and
the never-ending presence and filling of the Holy Spirit, did he say, “Well, that went way too fast?”
A life lived in the presence of Jesus, is a life of adventure, peace, goodness and joy. Matthew
5:16, “Let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works and glorify your Fa-
ther in heaven.” I think one of our goals should be to live our life in Jesus in such a way that when
we reach the end we’ll be able to say, by the grace of God, “Well, that went way too fast.” I be-
lieve we’ll say that the same way I said it at the beginning, with no regret, but looking forward to
what is to come, an eternity with our Lord and all the saints. God grant that to us all.

Thrivent Action Team Report Summary Actual Project Date: 07/07/2018
Story: Our Backpacks For The Homeless team started by making a list of all the items we thought the home-
less would need that could fit into a backpack. Then we wrote letters to the congregational members and to the
parents of children in our upper and lower Dayschools. Collection boxes were placed in key areas around the
campus to serve as convenient sites for everyone to place their donations. After several weeks, we organized
the items, took inventory, and made a shopping list of missing items to be purchased. This we did with funds
from THRIVENT and several other generous donors. 100 Backpacks had been ordered to serve in this minis-
try with the Bible verse Matthew 25:40 printed on the outside. On packing day we had more volunteers to as-
semble and pack the items into each of the backpacks, some for men and some for women. There will be a
follow-up meeting to assess our work and to continue the project into the future. Assembled backpacks are
placed in the church entrance for members of our church to take and distribute to the homeless that they see
on roadsides as they travel through the Palm Beach County area. Pictures of our work have been placed on
Facebook and there are more to be submitted.
