Participants will discuss the regulatory aspects and best practices as they apply to this federal and state mandated process. Emphasis will be placed on developing, monitoring, and evaluating the effectiveness of a BIP. SIBLING SUPPORT PROGRAM Saturday, SEPTEMBER 22nd, 2018

On Saturday, September 22nd, siblings of children with disabilities will have the chance to have a day that’s all about them. The Virginia Institute of Autism is teaming up with Charlottesville Parks & Recreation to host a FREE one-day Sibling Support Program. Our goal is to provide siblings with opportunities for peer support within a lively, recreational context that emphasizes a kids’-eye-view. We’ll intersperse information and discussion activities with new games (designed to be unique, off-beat, and appealing to a wide ability range). Lunch provided. Managing Anger Free PREP Parent Resource Center Workshop

(limited class size – register early)

Classes will meet once per week – Tuesdays, Oct. 2 – Oct. 30 (5:00-6:30PM) Ivy Creek School, 227 Lambs Lane, Charlottesville

A therapeutic class aimed at helping students in ages 9 - 12 who struggle with managing anger in various situations. This class is appropriate for students who receive all academic instruction in the general education setting with minimal support. Students will benefit most if they have anger that is difficult for them to deal with on a daily basis. A workshop for students and a separate workshop for parents. Information presented by PREP Autism and Behavior team. Free Registration and dinner included.

This workshop will focus on accessible instructional materials (AIM). Accessible instructional materials are alternate print materials (e.g. digital versions that can be read aloud with text highlighting, braille) used by students who are not able to use traditional print formats due to learning, visual, or physical disabilities. AIM VA, Bookshare, and Learning Ally are libraries of AIM material that are available to students who meet certain criteria. Attend this workshop to find out more! ParentCampVA: The Unconference to Build Family, School and Community Partnerships September 22, 2018 (10 a.m. – 2 p.m.) Roanoke, VA

All parents care about their child’s education… they’re just not always sure what role they

play in ensuring a great educational experience. ParentCamp is a time for parents, teachers,

administrators, and community stakeholders to come together on an even playing field and hold

face-to-face conversations about what is best for kids.

There are “discussion leaders” in each session who set the tone for collaborative dialogue led by

teachers, parents, school and community leaders. Sessions are geared toward elementary,

middle and/or high school parents. ParentCamp is always FREE and open to those within the

Provider Fair on Saturday, September 29th from 10:00 AM -1:00 PM. The Provider Fair will be held in the Conference

Center (Room 500-A) of Region Ten Community Services Board at 500 Old Lynchburg Road in Charlottesville.

Come to the fair to:

1) learn about local resources and how to access services;

2) speak with case management representatives;

3) speak to providers of residential & daytime services;

4) get advice from parents and family who have been involved in the system of care; and

5) get your questions answered! Advance registration is not required.
