Dear PMIEF Friends,

The PMI Educational Foundation had another dynamic year in 2018. Building on years of continued global support, it has grown and evolved into a thriving foundation. As we plan ahead for an exciting future, it’s important to take a look back on what we have accomplished.

Last year over 225,000 youth were exposed to project management through programs and grants that we provided to our partners. PMIEF awarded eight grants totaling US$1,397,660 and reaching 53 countries on five continents. Since 2012, PMIEF has distributed US$7.6 million in grants through thoughtful collaboration with nearly 50 nonprofits around the world. We also gave more than 327 scholarships and awards to students and working professionals, all made possible through your generous donations and in-kind support.

More than 4,000 donors from 122 countries supported our work in 2018. With such generous funding, the Foundation has strengthened its outreach, programs, and services worldwide. We are proud to help bring new social good efforts around the globe through project management.

PMIEF’s driving aspiration is to change lives through project management education. As we forge ahead with our mission to introduce project management skills to youth as a fundamental life skill, the Foundation continues to evolve its strategy to better reflect and implement a refreshed vision: to inspire youth to achieve their goals, and help them turn dreams into reality.

This refreshed vision has led to an exciting period of transition in 2019. We are now completing planning and beginning to operationalize a more targeted strategy by focusing on not- for-profit organizations that serve youth. Over the past 10 years, we have learned that our greatest global impact is found in changing the lives of

youth through non-formal education. Although this has been an integral part of our work for a long time, it will now be the central effort, building upon what we’ve learned and narrowing our focus to create an even greater impact in the lives of young people.

Knowing that youth eagerly apply project management skills to their everyday life, non-profits understand its value, and volunteers are inspired by this work, we believe the refreshed strategy will allow us to better leverage professional project management volunteers all over the world. For more information see page 4.

We – the PMIEF Board and staff – are excited about the future of the Foundation and its new strategic focus. We believe it offers a realistic, engaging, purposeful way to bring the benefits of project management knowledge to youth worldwide, empowering them to achieve their own goals, and become effective leaders in their communities.

PMIEF is stronger than ever thanks to its continually expanding community which generously donates time, resources, and talent in support of its important mission. Thank you for your continued support of the Foundation. We’re looking forward to what lies ahead as we plan for our future.

Helping Youth Fulfill Their Aspirations As we reflect on what a wonderful year 2018 was, we’re excited as we look ahead and announce our refreshed strategy for 2019 and the years to come.

As you know, young people are tomorrow’s global leaders. The youth who learn to think critically, collaborate, and make confident decisions are better equipped to become those leaders. Our experience and research proves project management is a conduit for acquiring and applying these crucial skills. Whether the task is to complete a school project, find a job, or improve communities – project management can open young minds, put dreams within reach and ultimately change lives.

Our goal is to inspire youth through our refreshed mission and vision:

To support our increased focus on youth and our effort to help them build life skills through project management, we aim to forge partnerships with nonprofit organizations that support and prepare youth for success by offering our project management expertise, resources, and volunteers to aid them in their missions. To learn more go to PMIEF.org.

You are part of our strategy.

Whether you are a volunteer, donor, interested

nonprofit, project management training

organization or researcher, your skills,

enthusiasm, and financial support can help

make our vision a reality.

PMI Honduras Chapter The PMI Honduras Chapter volunteers trained PMO’s at a local bank to become training facilitators in project management. The chapter plans to train school teachers to help teach project management skills in their classrooms and create a pre-school training material for kids.

Nearly 40 Alaskan agencies participated in this training.

PMI Ecuador Chapter The PMI Ecuador Chapter hosted “ Dia del Proyecto Social,” or “Day of Social Good,” an event which brought together PMI chapter volunteers and local nonprofit organizations to share their knowledge about social good, project management and the impact it has on the community. The event was such a success, it motivated the chapter to host a Social Day event in 2019 in Peru, Ecuador, Guatemala, Argentina and Honduras.

PMI Argentina Chapter PMI Argentina Chapter hosted a PMIEF workshop “Skills for Project Management” at the Grilli Canning School, in preparation to assist the the Garrahan Foundation with a donation to the hospital. PMI Nashville Chapter PMI Nashville Chapter volunteers worked with Harvest Hands, a local nonprofit specializing in community development, to work with 9 employees of the Humphrey Street Coffee and Soap Shop, to help provide mentorship and information on the basics of project management. The collaboration helped the shop train adolescent youth in job skills such as customer service, marketing and craftsmanship.
