- 1 - NEWS RELEASE Outreach Corner December 2014 Corporate Outreach PMINYC/PMIEF Junior Achievement Project Management Job Shadowing Day Thursday, October 30 Suzan Cho, VP Outreach, collaborated with Junior Achievement of New York (JANY) and her company BNY Mellon, Women In Technology to host a new initiative, PMINYC/PMIEF Junior Achievement Project Management Job Shadowing Day. JANY selected Academy of Finance and Enterprise High School students to benefit from this opportunity to learn about project management, with 30 high schools students, 2 teachers and 30 corporate volunteers participating. This special event presented the students with PMI Education Foundation JA curriculum, lead by Paula Storonsky, PMP, past VP of Prof. Development of 2013 and with hands- on learning exercises in designing a student website, lead by BNY Mellon Technology User Experiences team. All enjoyed a tour of the state of the art Trading Floor facility. In addition to a $2,100 in-kind donation to JANY on the day of the event, BNY Mellon also donated $4,700 to PMIEF as part of its annual Community Partnership Campaign. JANY will apply for a grant from PMIEF to create a series of JA PM Job Shadowing Day programs in the near future. It was an all-around huge success (see samples of the students quotes below). “At BNY Mellon, I learned how to be a leader. I learned what project is, and how project management can be applied to every day life. What I enjoyed the most about the trip was learning about the different aspects of project management and visiting the trading floor. I really enjoyed meeting such influential women!!” Priame 11 th grade “I learned that I should always keep my eyes open opportunities. I learned about project management and how it can help me in the future. I learned a lot about the trading floor – I hope to work there one day. I enjoyed the tour of the trading floor and the user experience.” Julia, 11 th grade “I learned about the triple constraint diagram, the project management process, and being curious! I enjoyed visiting the trading center and experiencing what a project manager does.” Magaly 11 th grade “I learned that BNY Mellon safeguards $28 trillion! I learned that they are located in 35 different countries. I also learned what project management is and how it has a beginning and ending. I mostly enjoyed the activity of creating a website for students!” Janice 11 th grade

SLA NY/LLAGNY Project Management Series Project Management has been identified as a core skill for librarians and information specialists. The Special Libraries Association New York Chapter and Law Library Association of Greater New York are partnering for a three-part series on Project Management. Mimi Rosenfeld, PMINYC Outreach Program Manager, presented an overview of the PMBOK framework at Session 1 (Introduction to Project Management) on October 29. Larry Mantrone, PMINYC Agile Program Manager, gave an introduction to Agile at Session 2 (Tools and Methodologies) on November 24. Gene Gendel, Certified Scrum Coach, presented case studies among the panelists on December 18, 2014. Academic Outreach

Pace University Speed Mentoring Thursday, October 30, 6:00-8:00 pm PMINYC spun off the Speed Mentoring concept for an event at Pace University Continuing and Professional Education in partnership with the Orion Development Group. Mentors discussed project management topics with a small but dedicated group of participants at the Pace University campus in downtown Manhattan. Veteran mentor Larry Mantrone, PMP, CSM (Agile Program Manager, PMINYC) was joined by newcomers Bob Boehringer (Vice President – Process Management, Orion Development Group), Peter Hong, PMP (Federal Reserve Bank), John Conti, PMP (Sr. IT Project/Program Manager), and Mary Anne Martucci, PMP (Sr. Director of Program Management, Starr Insurance Holdings, Inc.). As a Pace alumna of both undergraduate and MBA programs, Mary Anne found satisfaction in sharing how her education provided a springboard to her career in project management.

Margaret Powers of the Orion Development Group spearheaded this initiative in conjunction with James Irvine, Program Manager of Pace University CPE and Suzan Cho, PMINYC VP Outreach. Plans for a follow-up event are already in the works for Spring 2015.

PMINYC / NYU-SPS Career Series (Part 2): Launching Your Career in Project Management Friday, November 7, 6:00-8:00 pm The Career Series sponsored by PMINYC and NYU continued with an event targeted to graduate students in the Management and Systems (MASY) program. The workshop focused on career development skills such as resume writing, interviewing, networking, and building a brand, communication skills and the transition from degree to workplace. Participants were able to select three topics of greatest interest. Mentors combined presentations with interactive exercises that directly engaged participants and their concerns. A handful of lucky mentees had the opportunity to conduct a mock interview with Cynthia Simeone, PMP (PMINYC Past President and Director of Business Resilience and Physical Security, Catholic Health Initiatives). Others observed first-hand the collaborative nature of project management in sessions team-taught by Jeff Furman / Ed Kleinert and Dr. Sabra Brock / Larry Mantrone. The

mentor line-up was rounded out by Frank Saladis (PMINYC President Elect, PMI Fellow), Josh Lerner (PMINYC Past President), Rabih Alali, Clark Webb and Charlie Cirronella. Suzan Cho of PMINYC, Tatiana Rivera of NYU-SPS and their teams organized the event. The evening concluded with pizza and networking.
