► Known for its silk production andhas Asia’s second largest cocoonmarket, after Devanahalli (BengaluruRural)

► Famous for the huge rockyoutcroppings: Savandurga ,Ramadevarabetta, SRS bettaand Thenginkalbetta.

Earlier known as ‘Closepet’ after Sir Barry Close, a British officer, the district was renamedas Ramanagara by the former Chief Minister, Sri Kengal Hanumanthaiah. It is the birthplaceof Sri Kempegowda, architect, builder and mentor of the present Bengaluru city. It is knownfor its power plants, silk and coccon production, and was the first district to have modernoffice bildings like in Bengaluru city. Ramanagara is also famous for its huge rocks. Thefamous hindi movie SHOLAY was shot in and around these hills and hence the nameSHOLAY HILLS.
