TRAINING CAMP NOTES Camp roster

The Senators 2019-20 camp roster includes 63 players: Seven goaltenders, 19 defencemen and 37 forwards.

Twenty-three (23) players participated in the 2019 rookie camp and tournament in Bellleville, Ont. The list of camp invitees is built primarily around the Senators’ draft. Twenty (20) players were Ottawa selections in NHL drafts, eight players were signed as free agents, 21 players were obtained in trades, seven players are signed to American Hockey League contracts, three players are on a professional tryout and four players are on amateur tryouts, respectively.

Twenty-nine (29) players appeared in at least one game with the Senators during the 2018-19 season while another four players dressed with other NHL clubs. Of the 28 players who were invited to the recent rookie camp and tournament in Belleville, 23 participants have been invited to training camp.

The Senators 2018-19 season training camp roster included 57 players: Seven goaltenders, 16 defencemen and 34 forwards of which 26 players were selected by Ottawa in NHL drafts.

Rookie tournament

The Senators participated in their 19th rookie camp and tournament from Sept. 6 to 9. This year’s tournament was held in Belleville, Ont., with the Montreal Canadiens and Winnipeg Jets also participating.

The Senators won the tournament with a 3-0-0 record and earned at least two victories (of a maximum of three) for an 11th consecutive year; a 8-1 win over Winnipeg in the tournament’s opener on Sept. 6, a 4-2 victory over Montreal on Sept. 7 and a 2-1 overtime win over the Jets in the tournament finale on Sept. 9. The Senators rookies had trailed 1-0 before Josh Norris tied the contest midway through the first period while Jonathan Gruden ultimately scored the game-winner 2:40 into the extra session.

GOALTENDERS 41 – CRAIG ANDERSON, Goaltender – Catches: Left – Size: 6-2, 186 lbs. – Born: May 21, 1981 (Park Ridge, Ill.) 2018-19 Team: Ottawa (NHL) – Draft: 2001 - Chicago’s third-round pick (73rd overall) – Acquired: Traded from Colorado in exchange for Brian Elliott on 2/18/11 2018-19: Started at least 40 games (47 total) for the fifth time over the past six seasons by way of starting 47 games for Ottawa during his ninth season with the Senators … Made 50 appearances for the seventh time in his NHL career … Earned a team high 17 wins which included two shutout wins … His second shutout victory of the season on March 26 vs. Buffalo (4-0 win) saw him move to within two of matching Patrick Lalime for the franchise lead (30) … Faced at least 53 shots on two occasions, on Oct. 28 at Vegas (4-3 overtime loss) and on Nov. 23 at Dallas (6-4 loss), marking the second and third time respectively that he had faced at least 50 shots with the Senators and for the fifth and sixth respective occasions in his NHL career … His 49 saves at Vegas on Oct. 28 and 48 stops at Dallas on Nov. 23 represented his two highest totals over nine seasons with Ottawa … Became the first goaltender in franchise history to appear in a 400th game for the Senators on April 1 vs. Tampa Bay (5-2 loss).

36 – COLIN WHITE, Centre – Shoots: Right – Size: 6-1, 190 lbs. – Born: Jan. 30, 1997 (Hanover, Mass.) 2018-19 Team: Ottawa (NHL) – Draft: 2015 - Ottawa’s second first-round pick (21st overall) 2018-19: Became the eighth rookie (Alfredsson, Daigle, Havlat, Hoffman, Stone, Tkachuk, Yashin) in franchise history to post 40 points in his rookie season … Joined teammate Brady Tkachuk in becoming only the third pair of rookies (Daigle/Yashin in 1993-94, Hoffman/Stone in 2014-15) in franchise history to register greater than 40 points in one season … Tied for second among Senators in tallying the first five power-play goals of his NHL career … Helped the Senators post their first overtime win at Honda Center when he scored in OT for the first time on Jan. 9 at Anaheim (2-1 OT win) … Established a new career high with three points (two goals, one assist) on Feb. 18 at Chicago (8-7 loss) … Represented Team U.S.A. at the 2019 IIHF World Championship in Slovakia recording three points (two goals, one assist) while skating in each of his country’s eight tournament games.
