SCHEDULE/RESULTS Minnesota Heads Across Border to South Dakota
South Dakota StateDec. 20
Brookings, South Dakota
TEAM NOTESThe Minnesota Golden Gophers are set to travel to Brookings, South Dakota, for a dual
against the South Dakota Jackrabbits. The two teams met every season since the 2015-16
campaign with the Maroon and Gold winning every dual.
Last season the Gophers won 35-6 with bonus points in fi ve of eight individual victories.
Scouting the Jackrabbits
South Dakota State comes into the dual 1-1 with a victory over Utah Valley and a loss to
Binhamton. In tournaments this season where both team's participated in the Gophers
came out with 13 champions compared to the Jackrabbits' two.
The border rivals are coached by former Gophers two-time national champion Damion
Hahn. Last season marked Hahn's fi rst return to the pavilion since taking the head job.

Brayton's Bonanza
Redshirt freshman Brayton Lee felt right at
home in Las Vegas where he reeled off fi ve
straight victories, including three over top-
ten opponents, to take home the prestigious
Cliff Keen Las Vegas title.
Lee, the USA Wrestling Junior 65kg repre-
sentative this summer in Estonia, is now
13-1 on the season with a pair of tourna-
ment titles already under his belt.
Lee already has four bonus point victories
this season in addition to grinding out
several close matches.
Folkstyle Mitch McKee
At 141-pounds Mitch McKee has started his
senior campaign off on the right foot. After
earning All-American status for the fi rst
time last season McKee seems to be a man
on a mission racking up victories and bonus
points.
McKee, 15-1 on the season, has only fallen
to top-ranked Luke Pletcher of Ohio State.
In his victories McKee was tallied ten bonus
point victires.
Plus, the eldest McKee brother is climbing
the Gophers all-time pin list and currently
sits tied at 15th with 31 falls.
Ballin' Bailee
Goodhue native Bailee O'Reilly recorded his
30th victory in Las Vegas as he went 3-3 to
ultimately fi nish in eighth place. Still, the
tournament was a great showing from the
redshirt sophomore who is starting for the
fi rst time this season.
O'Reilly is now 11-5 on the season with
four bonus point wins as well as two dual
victories.

Shakopee Products
So far this season the Gophers have relied upon a pair of Shakopee High School products in
the starting lineup: 133-pound Brent Jones and 184-pound Owen Webster.
Thus far Jones has a 6-6 record while Webster has a 12-3 record. After knocking off Oklaho-
ma State's Anthony Montalvo, then ranked, in late November, Webster continued the run in
early December at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational. Webster recorded a technical fall in
the fi rst round before pinning then-No.4 Ben Darmstadt of Cornell in a minute.
Buena Vista Success
While some Gophers were out in Las Vegas, others were competing at the Buena Vista Open
in Iowa. Eight Gophers placed on the podium while at 149-pounds Jakob Bergeland earned
the team's lone title.
After starting his tournament with a pair of bonus point victories, Bergeland experienced
his lone decision victory in the fi nal round. In matches that didn't end in a pin or a forfeit,
Bergeland outscored his opponents 33-1 on the weekend.
As a group, the Gophers racked up twelve pins on the weekend. At 133-pounds, Sebas
Swiggum had three of those falls in his fi rst three matches of the tournament.

2019-20 GOPHER COACHING STAFF
6MINNESOTA WRESTLING
HEAD COACH BRANDON EGGUMBrandon Eggum completed his fi rst season as the Gophers’ head coach in 2016-17 after spending the previous fi ve seasons serving as
the program’s head assistant coach. This is Eggum's 18th on the wrestling team staff. Prior to assuming an assistant coach role in 2004,
Eggum served as the team’s strength and conditioning coordinator (2001-2004).
Following a decorated career as a Gopher wrestler, Eggum joined the staff in 2000-01 and has since helped train and develop nine individ-
ual national champions, 27 individual conference champs and 67 All-Americans. The team success during that time has also been remark-
able, a run which has included all three of the program’s national titles, fi ve Big Ten championships and seven National Duals crowns.
Since joining the staff, Eggum has played a part in national title runs by Luke Becker, Jared Lawrence, Dustin Schlatter and Jayson Ness,
as well as two-time champions Damion Hahn, Cole Konrad and Tony Nelson. All seven won Big Ten titles with Eggum on staff, but the list
of Big Ten champs during Eggum’s tenure also includes: Garrett Lowney, Owen Elzen, Ryan Lewis, Leroy Vega, Jacob Volkmann, Mack Reiter,
C.P. Schlatter, Roger Kish, Mike Thorn, Kevin Steinhaus, Dylan Ness and Chris Dardanes. The list of All-Americans under Eggum’s watch
goes on even longer.
Prior to his coaching career, Eggum was a four-time letterwinner for the Gophers from 1997 to 2000. As a sophomore, Eggum earned an
All-America certifi cate at 177 pounds. In 1999, he bumped up to 184 pounds, where he would place second and third at the next two NCAA
Championships, respectively. Eggum also won the Big Ten title at his weight both of those seasons and helped Minnesota win the 1999 Big
Ten championship, the program’s fi rst since 1959. Eggum’s name still litters the program’s record books as well. His 115 career wins and
his .833 career winning percentage (115-23) are both among 25 best in Gopher history, while his 61 dual victories is tied for 12th.
As impressive as Eggum was on the mat, he also stood out in the classroom as a four-time Academic All-Big Ten selection. He graduated
from the University of Minnesota in May 2000, with a B.S. in Applied Economics.
A native of Sidney, Mont., Eggum currently resides in Stillwater, Minn., with his wife Katrina, son Greyson, and two daughters, Lillian and
Monroe.
