The Francis Ouimet Scholarship Fund truly appreciates that you have chosen us as a vehicle for fulfilling your charitable wishes and for sharing with us the success that you have worked so hard to achieve. You have made the conscious decision to give back to the young men and women who are Ouimet Scholars pursuing their higher education. You have chosen to make yourself impactful, to do something of value, to make the Ouimet Fund better. For this . . .and so much more . . . we thank you.

Prior to his passing in 1967, Francis acknowledged that he believed his greatest legacy would be The Fund that was established in his honor. Thanks to you, I think he was right.

Today, the 155 endowed funds total nearly $19 million! It accounts for one-third of the $2.5 million the Ouimet Fund will award to 468 Scholars in 2019-20. These annual awards range from $500 per Scholar to $30,000, depending upon financial need. The Ouimet Fund endowment, together with our Bag Tag Program, Golf Marathon, Annual Banquet and Annual Fund provides the philanthropic resources that we use to help meet the financial needs of these Scholars.

In 2024, and in recognition of the 75th anniversary of the founding of the Ouimet Fund, our Board of Directors, as part of our recently adopted strategic plan, hopes to increase the endowment to $24 million. This is an ambitious goal, but doing so will enable us to raise the amount awarded to each Scholar as well as increase the number of scholarship recipients.

To achieve this goal, we ask for your guidance. If you have friends or colleagues whom you believe would like to join with you in your support of these young Scholars — to give back to the game we all love in a positive way — we ask you to please introduce them to us. Just reach out to me, one of my colleagues on the Board, or a member of our Ouimet staff.

1) Who should endow a scholarship? The ideal candidate is someone who has, or their family has, a deep affinity for golf, or has or had a parent or loved one who shares that deep affinity for golf, and who would like to be permanently associated with golf, Francis Ouimet, or helping young people afford a college education. Family members, for instance, may together create an award in the name of their mom or dad. Other candidates include companies or organizations that are close to golf or have an educational focus in their philanthropic priorities. Members of those organizations may collectively donate and may even approach vendors to contribute to a special cause.2) How can I ensure that my philanthropic goals are realized? The Ouimet Fund’s Endowed Scholarship Program allows the donor to “personalize” a scholarship by determining qualifications that are important to them. Current Ouimet endowed scholarships include awards for Ouimet Scholars who are, for instance, in a particular field of study, Scholars from a particular club or region of the state, a female Scholar, or an inner-city Scholar. Candidates meeting these restrictions will be given priority. Donors may create their award with very defined restrictions or in broader terms, or the donor can opt to allow The Fund to select a deserving recipient.3) How can I make my contribution? Ouimet endowed scholarships can be funded in a variety of ways:

• Cash Donations: These can be made with a one-time donation or split up over two to five years based on contractual agreement.• Gifts From Appreciated Stock: Donors may wish to take advantage of the tax savings by making a gift of appreciated stock that would

then be sold by The Fund to establish the award. Consult your tax advisor for more information.• Memorial Donations: People frequently designate the Ouimet Fund for memorial donations when a loved one passes away. Occasionally,

these donations have been large and people have “rolled” them into endowed scholarships by making additional contributions.• Memorial Tournaments: A memorial tournament can be organized by the donating group and the proceeds used to fund a permanently

endowed scholarship.• From a Fundraising Effort: Several organizations have funded endowed awards by soliciting their constituents to donate toward the

endowed scholarship. Each of the individual donors was able to deduct the donation.4) Can I gift money from my IRA and receive a charitable tax deduction? The IRA Charitable Rollover has been permanently extended, but we suggest you consult your tax advisor on its current application. The Rollover has allowed individuals age 70½ and older to make direct transfers totaling up to $100,000 per year to 501(c)(3) organizations, such as the Francis Ouimet Scholarship Fund, without having to count the transfers as income for federal income tax purposes. The transfers do, however, count toward that person’s required minimum distribution for the year. Transfers must come from your IRAs directly to the Ouimet Fund. If you have retirement assets in a 401(k), 403(b) etc., you must first roll those funds into an IRA, and then you can direct the IRA provider to transfer the funds from the IRA directly to the Ouimet Fund. 5) What Will I Receive For My Contribution? Most importantly, you will receive the satisfaction that comes with realizing your goal of helping young people attain their college dreams. You will also receive annual information from The Fund detailing the student(s) who will be receiving your scholarship, as well as key financial performance data on your fund and the Ouimet Fund in general. As a token of our gratitude, you will also receive a special “Francis Ouimet and Eddie Lowery” framed plaque which is presented to each sponsor or honoree. Awards are listed annually in this publication, in the Annual Impact Report, and are permanently engraved on a special recognition board at the Ouimet Fund offices at the William F. Connell Golf House.

Eddie Lowery Planned Giving Program: The Fund is pleased to recognize, as members of The Eddie Lowery Society, those individuals who have made a future commitment to The Fund through an estate gift. Planned (or bequest) gifts naming the Ouimet Fund as beneficiary through a will, trust agreement, life insurance policy or other deferred gift such as a 401(k) provide a vital resource for our scholarship aid. The Ouimet Endowed Scholarship ProgramThe Ouimet Fund Endowed Scholarship Program has become our cornerstone for growth. Endowed scholarships are permanently

restricted funds that are invested to ensure the existence of the scholarship in perpetuity. The program offers the donor the ability to tailor their gift and the resulting named award to suit their own philanthropic goals. Since 1991, the number of endowed scholarships invested with The Fund has grown from 5 to 155 awards.

A unique quality of the Ouimet Fund Endowed Scholarship Program is that it permanently links the donor, honoree or sponsoring organization with golf, Francis Ouimet, youth and education. Every year, we are thrilled to communicate with the donors and/or honorees to let them know about the student(s) they are helping and what makes him or her a worthy recipient. We often hear of the satisfaction they feel knowing they’ve made an additional difference in the life of a young student. The recipients of the awards often send letters of gratitude to their benefactors letting them know the importance of their incredible support.

Endowment Is Important To The Future Of The FundEndowed scholarships are vital to the Ouimet Fund and our Scholars. The endowed awards broaden The Fund’s financial base

and proceeds greatly add to our scholarships, lessening our dependence on annual fundraising and events, and increasing the dollars available to support all of our Scholars.

Is A Ouimet Endowed Scholarship Right For You?The 155 endowed awards established with the Ouimet Fund were funded in a variety of ways. The common thread among them is that

the contributions come from individuals, families or special groups who wish to honor a deep commitment and connection to young people, education, the game of golf and Francis Ouimet.

WHY THE OUIMET FUNDThe Francis Ouimet Scholarship Fund has been in existence for more than 70 years, since 1949. It is one of the most respected charities in New England and has awarded more than $38 Million in scholarships to over 6,000 students, many of whom have gone on to outstanding careers in business and professional positions. The Ouimet Fund is considered “The Golf Charity of Massachusetts”TM and is supported by over 75 clubs, all of the golf organizations in the state as well as many individuals, companies and foundations. In the last five fiscal years alone, which will end on March 31, 2020, the Ouimet Fund will have awarded $10.25 Million in scholarships.

DONATION AND FINANCIAL INFORMATIONDonation Level: The minimum donation required to establish an endowed scholarship is $50,000. Frequently, endowed scholarship creators make ongoing donations to increase the impact of their awards.Pledging Over Time: A donor may agree to make the donation over a period of two to five years, if necessary.Tax-deductibility: The donation to fund a scholarship and any additional contributions to it, are tax-deductible to the full extent allowed by law.501 (c) (3) Tax-Exempt Organization: The Ouimet Fund has been a non-profit, tax-exempt organization in good standing for 70 years. Tax ID #04-2234126.Portfolio Management: The Fund’s endowed scholarship portfolio is managed by Goldman Sachs and has performed well historically.Audit Report/Yearly Financial Report: The Ouimet Fund has an independent audit each year by a firm that specializes in non-profit organizations and private schools. From that audit, The Fund has information on each endowed scholarship, including growth and disbursements which is communicated to the donor.Amount of Annual Scholarship: The annual amount of the endowed award is generally 5% of the total of the endowment. The endowed award is made as part of, and in addition to, the general Ouimet Scholarship awarded. Endowments of greater size can be created to provide more than one scholarship per year.Management Fee: The Ouimet Fund draws 1% of the principal each year from each endowed fund and transfers that amount to the annual operating budget. This helps to offset the increasing costs associated with operating and managing the endowed scholarship program. Contract: Upon establishment of a new endowed scholarship, the Ouimet Fund requires a contract that is a standard agreement used by schools and colleges. The contract protects the donor, the student recipient and the Ouimet Fund. The contract stipulates any special restrictions requested by the donor and agreed upon by the Ouimet Fund.“Enduring Value” of the Endowed Scholarship: The permanently endowed scholarship gives a donor a great return for their investment. As the award is made yearly, there is an annual recognition of the donor and/or honoree.

SCHOLARSHIP MANAGEMENT AND SELECTIONSelection of Recipients: The recipients of the endowed scholarship are current Ouimet Scholars. Often, they are Scholars with more substantial need who have been in the Ouimet program for a couple of years and have a “track record” of accomplishment.Notification of Recipients: The Ouimet Fund’s staff reviews all Scholars annually. The Executive Director will inform the donors of the selections for each award.Notification of Winners: The Ouimet Fund will notify the individual recipients of each award, and give them an overview of who established the award, including some information on the honoree. Ouimet Eligibility: Applicants must have completed at least two years “service to golf” as caddies or in pro shop or course superintendent operations at a Massachusetts golf course. The awards are “need-based” and assist with tuition at accredited undergraduate institutions. Management of Scholarship: The Ouimet Fund’s professional staff manages the scholarships.What if there is no Scholar meeting the specified qualifications?: The Ouimet Fund seeks to have each endowed scholarship help a student with need and will select a Scholar who may not meet the narrow restrictions.Waiting Period: If an award is scheduled to be paid over multiple years, until the full financial obligation has been met, a token award will be made from Ouimet Scholarship contingency funds.“Looks Great on a Resume”: The Ouimet endowed awards are considered highly prestigious and past recipients list them on resumes. Can the Award be made through a school and put in the investment portfolio of the school?: No. Announcement/Promotion of Awards: The Ouimet Fund lists each award annually in its Annual Impact Report and gives further description in this publication. A photo of the honoree is often included and each year the photo of the recipient is published in this report. If possible, the Ouimet Fund may have a presentation of the award at a key Ouimet event the year it is established. The Ouimet Fund will also present a plaque to the donor, if applicable. Making use of its multitude of social media channels, The Fund publicizes and recognizes recipients through weekly social media posts, as well as highlighting the awards and recipients on our website.

1949 SCHOLARSHIPThe 1949 Scholarship was created in 2018 to celebrate 70 years of the Ouimet Fund, and the many students it has helped over the years. It recognizes the great history of the organization as

well as Francis Ouimet and Eddie Lowery. This year’s recipients are is Ryan Gallagher, Luke McCollester and Michael Strazzere. Ryan is a sophomore at Quinnipiac University who performed his golf service at Meadow Brook Golf Club. Luke is a senior at Northeastern University majoring in Finance who performed his golf service at The Kittansett Club. Michael is a freshman at Providence College who performed his golf service at Indian Ridge Country Club.

IRVING L. ADLER SCHOLARSHIP The Irving L. Adler Scholarship was established in 2007 as an 80th birthday present from friends, family and business associates of Mr. Adler. He is a founder of Adler Blanchard & Associates, LLP and a long-time

member of Spring Valley Country Club. He had been a Ouimet Society member for many years and is the father of Scott Adler, a Ouimet Fund Director. The Adler Scholarship is for a Ouimet Scholar preparing for a career in education or nursing. This year’s recipient is Molly Eagar, a senior at Belmont University majoring in Nursing who performed her golf service at Salem Country Club.

EVELYN VIRGINIA RUTLEDGE ALEXANDER SCHOLARSHIP

Mrs. Alexander was a Special Education teacher in the Springfield Public School System for over 30 years. She earned a Master’s Degree and a Ph.D in education while working full-time and raising

her two children. She was an avid golfer, gardener, and reader. The award is given by her son, Rand, also an ardent golfer and reader. The recipient of the scholarship must live in Hampden County, Massachusetts and must have worked at a public golf course in that County. This year’s recipient is Shawn Ferris, a senior at Western New England University majoring in Sports Management who performed his golf service at Elmcrest Country Club.

RAND ALEXANDER SCHOLARSHIPInner-City AwardEstablished by Ouimet Scholarship Alumni

The Rand Alexander Scholarship was established in 2017 in honor of Rand Alexander. The award is funded, in part, by proceeds of the annual Igoe Memorial Golf Tournament at Wellesley Country Club. The Igoe is a New England PGA Pro-Am that has benefitted the Ouimet Fund for over 45 years. Mr. Alexander is a long-time Wellesley member and avid golfer who has been an enthusiastic supporter of the Ouimet Fund and Wellesley’s caddie program. He was a scholarship student at Dartmouth College and learned to play golf on the municipal courses in his hometown of Springfield. After earning an MBA at the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, he spent 28 years in the investment management business, retiring as a partner from Wellington Management Company in 2005. He and his wife, Cheryl, believe that access to education provides access to opportunity. In 2015, Mr. Alexander also created the Evelyn Virginia Rutledge Alexander Scholarship in memory of his mother. The Rand Alexander Scholarship is for a Ouimet inner-city Scholar. This year’s recipient is Madison Remmes, a senior at UMass Boston majoring in Early Education and Sociology who performed her golf service at George Wright Golf Course.

ALTMAN/MCLAUGHLIN AWARDThis award was established in 2002 and is for a Ouimet Scholar from Brookline who has worked or been connected with Brookline Golf Club

at Putterham and has attended Brookline Public Schools, or other inner-city schools, for at least six years. Two long-time friends who are natives of Brookline, Roger Altman and Jay McLaughlin established the award. Mr. Altman is Chairman of Evercore Partners, specializing in mergers and acquisitions of major media properties. He is a former Deputy and Assistant Secretary of the United States Treasury. He lives in the New York City area. Mr. McLaughlin is a graduate of The College of the Holy Cross and University of Pennsylvania Law School. He is also a former United States Treasury official. He is Municipal Marketing Manager for the Eastern Region at IESI. This year’s recipient is Kathryn Galante, a freshman at UMass Lowell who performed her golf service at George Wright Golf Course.

ROGER BARRY AWARDEstablished in 1991 and named after the late long-time golf writer at the Patriot Ledger Newspapers in Quincy, this award is restricted to journalism or communications majors or students intending to pursue

a career in those fields. This year’s recipient is Patrick Donnelly, a sophomore at Boston University majoring in Journalism who performed his golf service at Tedesco Country Club.

RAYMOND M. BLUE SCHOLARSHIPThe Raymond M. Blue Scholarship was created by his family in 2005. The late Mr. Blue had been a native of Brookline, MA (like Francis Ouimet), and a highly enthusiastic and popular golfer at Charles River Country

Club and Woodland Golf Club. He practiced Mr. Ouimet’s values, including “gentlemanly play and not necessarily low scores were the important aspects of golf.” Mr. Blue was President of food brokerage companies in Connecticut and Massachusetts and raised nine children with his late wife, Priscilla. One of his sons, Jim, is a former Ouimet Fund President. The Scholarship is for Ouimet Scholars who have worked at Charles River or Woodland or are from Newton and have worked at a nearby club. This year’s recipient is Conor McDonough, a freshman at Worcester Polytechnic Institute who performed his golf service at Charles River Country Club.

CAROLYN N. BODAY SCHOLARSHIP Carolyn is a long-time supporter of the Ouimet Scholarship Fund via the Bag Tag Program and the Golf Marathon. She became a Lifetime Member in 2007. Her interest in golf started in 1966, when she and her late husband,

George, joined Oakley Country Club where she learned to play golf. She volunteered for Oakley and the WGAM, as well as participating in Belmont’s Special Olympics Golf Program. The Carolyn Boday Scholarship is for female scholars from Oakley Country Club, or another nearby club, or inner-city female scholars. This year’s recipient is Elizabeth Mason, a freshman at UMass Amherst who performed her golf service at Oakley Country Club.

The Les Bond/Wellesley Country Club Scholarship was established in 2006 and is funded by the proceeds of the annual Igoe Pro-Am at Wellesley and other donations. Mr. Bond was head professional

at Wellesley for 34 years and a former President of the New England PGA. He founded the Igoe Tournament to help the Igoe family after the 1967 death of Jack Igoe, his predecessor as Wellesley’s golf professional. When the Igoe family’s education was completed, the tournament’s proceeds were directed to other causes, including the Ouimet Fund. This year’s recipient is Jared Krueger, a senior at Bryant University majoring in Data Science.

BOSTON POLICE ATHLETIC LEAGUE SCHOLARSHIPInner-City Award

The Boston Police Athletic League Scholarship was founded in 2006 by the late Gerald Ridge through donations from the BPAL. The scholarship is presented annually to a Ouimet Scholar who is a Boston resident

and has done his/her golf service at Franklin Park or George Wright Golf Courses. This year’s recipient is John O’Brien, a senior at Bates College majoring in Politics who performed his golf service at George Wright Golf Course.

BOSTON STRONG SCHOLARSHIP The Boston Strong Scholarship was established in 2014 by an anonymous Friend of The Fund who wanted to honor the spirit of the City of Boston. The Boston Strong Scholarship is for a Ouimet Scholar who has

performed his or her service at Boston Golf Club, The Kittansett Club or a daily fee club in Massachusetts. This year’s recipient is Cameron Hunter, a junior at Villanova University majoring in Mechanical Engineering who performed his golf service at The Kittansett Club.

ANDERS FUNDEstablished by Ouimet Alumni

The Anders Fund is named after Fred Anders, the late Caddie Master at The Country Club. The award is funded by proceeds of the

Anders Tournament, and is limited to caddies at The Country Club. This year’s recipients are Robert Bedard, Mikael Cesar, Charles Hanoian, Kyle Magner and Jeffrey Monahan. Robert is a sophomore at UMass Lowell majoring in Business Administration. Mikael is a junior at Santa Monica College majoring in Hospitality. Charles is a freshman at University of Rhode Island. Kyle is a freshman at Coastal Carolina University majoring in Professional Golf Management. Jeffrey is a freshman at UMass Amherst. In 2013, The Anders Committee added a new scholarship, the Newell, Pyle, Sears Scholarship. It honors the late J. Louis Newell, Charles Pyle and John Sears. This year’s recipients are Christopher Hughes and Daniel Hughes. Christopher is a senior at Loyola University - Maryland majoring in Business. Daniel is a senior at Loyola University - Maryland majoring in Business. Christopher and Daniel are also receiving the Anders Founders Award, which, this year, recognizes former TCC Director of Golf Don Callahan.

ROBERT B. BACHMAN SCHOLARSHIPInner-City Award

This scholarship was created in honor of Mr. Bachman by his family in 2015. Mr. Bachman is a native of the Philadelphia area and a World War II veteran. He has continuously worked in sales in the steel industry

for the past 70 years. Bob spent 40 years with Lukens Steel and has been a manufacturer’s representative for 30 years. He joined Brae Burn Country Club in 1958 and was a single digit handicap player for many years. Bob has a great love and passion for the game. On several occasions he had the honor of playing golf with Francis Ouimet. He and his wife Libby have four children and 12 grandchildren. The Robert B. Bachman Scholarship is for a Ouimet Scholar from Brae Burn or an inner-city Scholar. This year’s recipient is Tobias Morollo, a freshman at UMass Amherst who performed his golf service at Brae Burn Country Club.

FREDERICK A. BAILEY SCHOLARSHIPThis award was established in 1998 and is named after Mr. Bailey, a former member of Charles River and Brae Burn Country Clubs who frequently played with Francis Ouimet. Mr. Bailey was an insurance

executive who died in 1967. This year’s recipient is Linden Tager, a freshman at Indiana University Bloomington who performed his golf service at Charles River Country Club.

BANK OF AMERICA AWARD The Bank of America C h a m p i o n s h i p was a PGA TOUR Champions event that was played for many years at Nashawtuc Country

Club, and was conducted by Nashawtuc Charities, a charitable arm of the club. The award was established in 2004 and is for Ouimet Scholars who have performed his or her golf service at Nashawtuc. This year’s recipient is Collin Grady, a junior at Manhattan College majoring in Finance.

BARRETT - O’HARA FAMILY SCHOLARSHIPEstablished by a Ouimet Alumnus

This award was established in 2004 and is for a Ouimet Scholar attending nursing school, intending to attend medical school, or for former Ouimet Scholars currently attending medical school. This year’s recipient is Emily Buchanan, a junior at Boston College majoring in Nursing who performed her golf service at Oak Hill Country Club.

TOM BARRETT MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIPThe Tom Barrett Memorial Scholarship was created by the family of Mr. Barrett in 2005. Mr. Barrett was a Vice President of the Francis Ouimet Scholarship Fund, and the founder and first Chairman of the Ouimet

Memorial Tournament. He was also a President of Woodland Golf Club. He had been a sales executive with a school supplies company and died in 1974 at age 46. The Barrett Memorial Scholarship is given each year to a Ouimet Scholar from one of the clubs that hosts a round of the Ouimet Memorial Tournament that year. This year’s recipient is Vinh Truong, a senior at UMass Amherst majoring in Civil Engineering who performed his golf service at Woodland Golf Club.

KEVIN & STEVE BUCKLEY SCHOLARSHIPInner-City AwardEstablished by Ouimet Alumni

In 2015, the Kevin & Steve Buckley Scholarship was established by his family in his memory. Kevin, along with his three brothers, grew up caddying and learning the game of golf at The Country

Club in the 1960s. A gifted athlete who had dreams of playing professional baseball, he was tragically injured playing football at age 17 and lived the rest of his life as a quadriplegic. Despite that setback, Kevin never stopped joining in the activities of friends and family, particularly his fellow caddies from TCC. He was a frequent participant at the Anders Fund outing and was a caddie for whom Fred Anders had a fond connection. His family has designated the Kevin Buckley Scholarship recipient to be a Boston area Ouimet Scholar who has completed his golf service as a TCC caddie, just like Kevin. This year’s recipient is Mikael Cesar, a junior at Santa Monica College majoring in Hospitality.

WALLACE M. BURNETT SCHOLARSHIP This award was instituted in 1996 and is in honor of Mr. Burnett, a lifelong Western Massachusetts resident. The award was funded by contributions from family and friends. The scholarship

is earmarked for a Western Massachusetts Ouimet Scholar who demonstrates a commitment to and love for golf. This year’s recipient is Kevin Allard, a freshman at Assumption College who performed his golf service at Longmeadow Country Club.

PRESCOTT S. BUSH SCHOLARSHIPThe Bush Award was funded by proceeds of the 2002 Ouimet Fund Annual Banquet honoring Former President George H.W. Bush, and is named after the late father of Mr. Bush. Prescott S. Bush was a United

States Senator from Connecticut and also served as President of the United States Golf Association in 1934. Mr. Bush worked at Brown Brothers Harriman in investments, where he was a partner of and friendly with Francis Ouimet. This year’s recipient is Alison Tzianabos, a sophomore at Clark University majoring in Political Science and Government who performed her golf service at Belmont Country Club.

PHIL AND BLANCHE CAHALIN SCHOLARSHIPThe Phil and Blanche Cahalin Scholarship was established in 2007 by friends of the Cahalins, from the proceeds of a special tournament that

honored them at Pinehills Golf Club. The Cahalins are long time members of Hatherly Country Club and parents of six children, two of whom died at early ages. Mr. Cahalin was introduced to the game at an early age by his grandfather who was a close friend of Francis Ouimet. Mr. Cahalin became a prominent attorney in Boston. He was a member of the Ouimet Board of Directors and Ouimet Chair at Hatherly Country Club. The Phil and Blanche Cahalin Scholarship is for a Ouimet Scholar attending The College of the Holy Cross, Mr. Cahalin’s undergraduate alma mater. This year’s recipient is Collin Fitzpatrick, a sophomore at The College of the Holy Cross majoring in Economics who performed his golf service at The Kittansett Club.

ELY CALLAWAY SCHOLARSHIPThe Callaway Scholarship was funded by proceeds of the Ouimet Fund’s 2010 Annual Banquet at the recommendation of the Banquet’s honoree, Annika Sorenstam. The late Mr. Callaway was the legendary

founder of Callaway Golf, known for revolutionizing the game with advanced club technology. Mr. Callaway was a mentor to Ms. Sorenstam, and she credits him with allowing her to concentrate on her career. Mr. Callaway also signed stars such as Arnold Palmer and Phil Mickelson to his brand, and Callaway Golf has been one of the top-selling golf club brands around the world. This year’s recipient is Christine Cutting, a senior at Assumption College majoring in Accounting who performed her golf service at Hatherly Country Club.

JUDGE PATRICK F. BRADY SCHOLARSHIPEstablished by a Ouimet Alumnus

This scholarship was originally established in 2010 as the Charles River Country Club Scholarship, and was re-named after Judge Patrick F. Brady in 2016. Judge Brady served on the Massachusetts Superior Court bench for 25 years until his retirement in 2015. He

died suddenly in September of 2016. He was a great supporter of the caddie program at Charles River Country Club. The scholarship is funded through a special giving program at Charles River. The award is for Ouimet Scholars who have performed their service at that club, which has been home to seven Ouimet Fund Presidents. This year’s recipients are Isabelle McDonald and Daniel Powers. Isabelle is a junior at Providence College majoring in Global Studies. Daniel is a sophomore at UMass Lowell majoring in Finance.

BRAE BURN COUNTRY CLUB/MICKEY LANE SCHOLARSHIP

The officers and members of Brae Burn Country Club established this award in 2000. It was established in recognition of the late Mr. Lane, who served as assistant or head professional at Brae Burn for 37 years. This

year’s recipient is Nathan Ng, a junior at UMass Amherst majoring in Computer Science.

BRAE BURN CC CADDIE ALUMNI SCHOLARSHIP Established by Ouimet Alumni

The Brae Burn Country Club Caddie Alumni Endowed Scholarship was established in 2015 through an appeal headed by a group of Ouimet Alumni, Brae Burn members and former Brae Burn caddies.

It honors the long tradition of caddies at Brae Burn and is for Ouimet Scholars who have been caddies at Brae Burn. This year’s recipient is John Forte, a senior at UMass Boston majoring in Communications.

GEORGE L. AND E. THERESA BRANDI SCHOLARSHIP

Established in 2013, this award honors the late Mr. and Mrs. Brandi who raised eight children instilling a love of hard work and education. The award was created by Gerry Brandi who was first exposed to golf at the

Maplewood Caddy Camp in New Hampshire. The Brandi Scholarship is for a Ouimet Scholar from a large family. This year’s recipient is Nathan Elchami, a freshman at UMass Amherst who performed his golf service at Thorny Lea Golf Club.

AUDREY AND I. D’ARCY BRENT II SCHOLARSHIPThis award was created by Mrs. Brent and her son, I. D’Arcy Brent III (Duffy), in 2012 in memory of Colonel Brent who died in 2010 at age 90. Colonel and

Mrs. Brent shared a lifelong passion for golf and enjoyed the chance to introduce people of all ages to the game. They were long-time members of Concord Country Club. During Colonel Brent’s career he had been a CIA Operative during the Cold War and advisor to two White House Administrations. He left the CIA to join the private defense contracting industry, serving as Executive Vice President of Baird Corporation in Bedford, MA. This award for a Ouimet Scholar is unrestricted. This year’s recipient is Thomas Fraser, a freshman at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute who performed his golf service at Greenock Country Club & Stockbridge Golf Club.

CASSON FAMILY SCHOLARSHIPThe Casson Family Scholarship was established in 2006 by Harold and Mary Lou Casson in honor of Harold’s late parents, Harold, Sr.

and Eleanor, and late brothers, Allan, and Samuel Casson. Allan Casson was a University of Southern California Professor of English Emeritus. He spent 45 years on the USC faculty and taught 35 different courses, and was honored several times as the university’s top professor. He died in 2005. Samuel Casson graduated from USC, produced and directed theatrical productions at USC, taught bridge, and was an authority in grand opera. He died in 2006. Harold Casson died in 2015. The Casson family had been long time members of Oakley Country Club. The Casson Family Scholarship is for a Ouimet Scholar from one of the eight clubs that make up the Boston Summer Twi League. This year’s recipient is Sean Peschier, a senior at St Josephs College of Maine majoring in Exercise Science who performed his golf service at Oakley Country Club.

COAN FAMILY SCHOLARSHIPEstablished by a Ouimet Alumnus

The Coan Family Scholarship was established in 2014 by Ouimet Alumni of the Coan Family in honor of John T. Coan, Jr. (Jack) and his

brother, Richard (Dick) Coan. Jack and Dick caddied, and worked in other capacities including caddiemaster, at Tedesco Country Club in the 1940s. Many members of the extended Coan family grew up working at various courses and became Ouimet Scholars. Dick Coan was a member of the original 1949 class of Ouimet Scholars. The Coan Family Scholarship is for a Ouimet Scholar who has performed his or her service at one of the following clubs: Beverly Golf and Tennis Club, Essex County Club, Hatherly Country Club, Myopia Hunt Club, Salem Country Club or Tedesco Country Club, may have attended several North Shore high schools or gone on to a group of colleges. This year’s recipient is Benjamin Cassola, a junior at Wentworth Institute of Technology majoring in Mechanical Engineering who performed his golf service at Tedesco Country Club.

This year’s recipient is Ryan Daly, a sophomore at Bentley University majoring in Finance who performed his golf service at Salem Country Club.

RICHARD F. CONNOLLY, JR. SCHOLARSHIPEstablished in Honor of a Ouimet Alumnus

This award was created from proceeds of the 2008 Spirit of Golf Award banquet at which Dick Connolly was honored in recognition of his 40 years of service and contributions to the Ouimet Fund. Mr. Connolly is

a Ouimet Scholarship Alumnus who is a former President and now a Director. He has been Chair or Co-Chair of the Francis Ouimet Memorial Tournament for 40 years, donated its permanent trophy, serves as Ouimet Nominating Committee Chair, has been the key inspiration behind the Ouimet Annual Banquet and its presenting sponsor since inception in 1997, has endowed a scholarship in his family’s name and helped in many other ways. The Ouimet Fund’s Distinguished Service Award is named after him. This year’s recipients are Madeline Belden, Luke McCollester and Jerome Sullivan. Madeline is a senior at The College of the Holy Cross majoring in International Studies who performed her golf service at Worcester Country Club. Luke is a junior at Northeastern University majoring in Finance who performed his golf service at The Kittansett Club. Jerome is a senior at Providence College majoring in Finance who performed his golf service at Marshfield Country Club.

CAMPBELL-BEACH SCHOLARSHIP Established by a Ouimet Alumnus

The Campbell-Beach Scholarship was created by Alumnus Daniel McLaughlin and his wife, Julie, in 2017 in honor of two golf professionals: the late Ken Campbell and Bob Beach, the recently retired and

long-time head pro at Braintree Municipal Golf Course. Mr. McLaughlin worked at Ponkapoag Golf Course as a youth, where Mr. Campbell was a great mentor to him. Mr. Beach is renowned for his work teaching handicapped veterans and those with disabilities. The McLaughlins chose to recognize Mr. Campbell and Mr. Beach

as they have had a profound impact on Dan and thousands of others. The Campbell-Beach Scholarship is restricted to Ouimet Scholars who have worked at daily fee golf courses, have assisted with junior golf programs or with golfers with disabilities, or have great financial need. This year’s recipient is Erin Kiley, a freshman at Boston College who performed her golf service at Braintree Municipal Golf Course.

CAPE COD NATIONAL SCHOLARSHIPThe Cape Cod National Scholarship was founded in 2006 through a donation program from members of that

club. It is for Ouimet Scholars from Cape Cod National Golf Club. This year’s recipients are John Buckley, Daniel Campbell, William Christian, Jennifer Keim, David Van Sickle, Owen Van Sickle and John Vaughan. John is a senior at Providence College majoring in Marketing. Daniel is a senior at Elon University majoring in Finance. William is a sophomore at George Mason University. Jennifer is a senior at Tusculum University majoring in Nursing. David is a sophomore at Worcester Polytechnic Institute majoring in Aerospace Engineering. Owen is a freshman at Northeastern University majoring in Mechanical Engineering. John is a sophomore at The College of the Holy Cross.

JACK CASEY NEW ENGLAND SENIOR GOLFERS’ ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP

This award is funded by the members of the New England Senior Golfers’ Association and was established in 1998 and renamed in 2012 in honor of Jack Casey, who initiated the program. Mr. Casey died in

2014. The award is presented to a Ouimet Scholar from one of the clubs which hosts a New England Senior Golfers’ Association event. This year’s recipient is Nathan Balthazard, a junior at Sacred Heart University majoring in Finance who performed his golf service at Oyster Harbors Club.

JAMES D. CASEY SCHOLARSHIPThis award was established in 1992 and is for a Ouimet Scholarship senior intending to go to law school who has demonstrated fine academic achievement and outstanding character. This year’s recipient

is Brendan W. Murphy, a junior at University of South Carolina majoring in International Studies who performed his golf service at Cohasset Golf Club.

MARY CASEY SCHOLARSHIPThe Mary Casey Scholarship was established in 2006 by her son, William Casey. Mrs. Casey, who died at age 72 in 1984, lived in Swampscott, Massachusetts, where she raised four sons - Bill, Peter,

Tom and Jack. She was a Controller for Swartz and Benjamin Shoe Factory in Lynn, MA. She instilled a work ethic and family values in her children, and was always interested in the best education possible for her boys. The Mary Casey Scholarship is for a Ouimet Scholar attending Northeastern University. This year’s recipient is Matthew Walthouse, a junior at Northeastern University majoring in Mechanical Engineering who performed his golf service at Longmeadow Country Club.

JERRY DALY SCHOLARSHIPEstablished in 2003, the Jerry Daly Scholarship honors the late Mr. Daly, a longtime member of The Kittansett Club and former Kittansett Club president who was a prominent executive with the Titleist, FootJoy, Etonic, Rockport

and Miller Golf companies. He was an accomplished amateur golfer and had been the Dartmouth Golf Captain and Massachusetts Four-Ball Champion. Mr. Daly died in 2002. The award is funded by proceeds of the Jerry Daly Father & Son Invitational Tournament at The Kittansett Club. The Daly Scholarship is for a Ouimet Scholar from The Kittansett Club, who is a resident of Marion or a surrounding community. This year’s recipients are Craig Demers and Cameron Hunter. Craig is a senior at Roger Williams University majoring in Biology. Cameron is a junior at Villanova University majoring in Mechanical Engineering.

WILLIAM DANFORTH AWARDThis is the Ouimet Fund’s only graduate school award, and is for Ouimet Scholars at Harvard Business School. Mr. Danforth, a close friend of Francis Ouimet, contributed it in perpetuity after Mr. Ouimet died in 1967. There is no recipient this year.

LAWRENCE E. DERITO SCHOLARSHIP New in 2019Established by a Ouimet Alumnus

Lawrence E. Derito established this award in 2019. Mr. Derito grew up as a caddie at Thorny Lea Golf Club, received a Ouimet Scholarship to help with his tuition at Providence College and then, after four years in the

Air Force, went on to receive the Ouimet Danforth Award at Harvard Business School. He fondly remembers his experience of being selected as one of the Ouimet Scholars to caddie in the 1963 U.S. Open Championship at The Country Club. Mr. Derito drew Dow Finsterwald, who was one of the top players on the PGA Tour then, and Mr. Finsterwald was in contention until the end. He was in the final group for the 36 holes that was then played on the final day. Although Mr. Finsterwald faltered somewhat, a special highlight for Mr. Derito was holding the pin for Jackie Cupit when he chipped in for birdie on the 17th hole which drew him into a playoff with Arnold Palmer and Julius Boros, who went on to win the playoff. Larry also has his picture taken with Honorary Chair Francis Ouimet and the photo was seen the next day in the Boston Globe. Mr. Derito was a pioneer in the specialized temporary professional staff business. He served on the Ouimet Board for 6 years, including serving as Alumni Chair. Mr. Derito lives in Jupiter, Florida where he was Chair of the 1992 U.S. Senior Amateur Championship at Loxahatchee Club. He feels that working in golf was a great experience, and the help from Ouimet Fund and the game were very important in his life. The Derito Scholarship will be for a Ouimet Scholar who performed golf service at Thorny Lea or Salem Country Club. The inaugural recipient is Steven Tasho, a senior at Bryant University majoring in Business who performed his golf service at Thorny Lea Golf Club.

WALTER F. DEVITT SCHOLARSHIPThe Walter F. Devitt Scholarship was created in 2015 by his grandson, David B. Fite, Jr. Mr. Devitt died in 1991. He was a graduate of Bentley College and was the Treasurer of Lynn Gas and Electric. He went on

to become the Treasurer of Massachusetts Gas and Electric and the Assistant Treasurer for the Northeast for the New England Electric System, retiring in 1973. He was a life member and Treasurer of the Central Congregational Church in Lynn, Massachusetts. He was a long-time member of the Beverly Golf and Tennis Club. Mr. Devitt was an avid golfer and introduced his grandson to the love of the game. This year’s recipient is Andrew Clark, a sophomore at Bentley University majoring in Accounting who performed his golf service at Salem Country Club.

GERALD F. CORCORAN SCHOLARSHIP The Gerald F. Corcoran Scholarship was established in 2017. Jerry spent 37 years in the Abington School system as a high school teacher, a golf coach, a soccer coach, director of library services, summer school

director, night school director, and advisor to numerous other school activities. As a youth growing up in Brockton, he caddied for several years at Thorny Lea Golf Club along with his older, brother Jim. He passed his love for golf on to his twin sons Mark and Mike who became caddies and worked the bag room at Thorny Lea in the late 70’s. Jerry kept in touch with his many former high school golfers and followed their successes. He maintained his love for the game playing with friends across New England until he passed away in 2014. The Corcoran Scholarship is for a Ouimet Scholar from Plymouth County. This year’s recipient is Matthew Daley, a junior at Johnson and Wales University majoring in Liberal Studies who performed his golf service at Marshfield Country Club.

CHARLIE CRENSHAW SCHOLARSHIPThe Crenshaw Award was funded from proceeds of the 1999 Ouimet Fund Annual Banquet and is named after Ben’s father, Charlie, who died a few weeks after the dinner. Mr. Crenshaw was an attorney in Austin, Texas

and a lifelong golfer. This year’s recipient is Steven Hopley, a senior at Methodist University majoring in Professional Golf Management who performed his golf service at Lexington Golf Club.

BOB AND SALLY CROCE SCHOLARSHIPNew in 2019

Mr. and Mrs. Bob and Sally Croce were proud to establish this award in 2019. Mrs. Croce first learned of golf from twin aunts who were fine golfers

at Hatherly Golf Club. She took some golf lessons as a teenager, and finally started to play after she and Bob had married, started a family, and joined Brae Burn Country Club in 1972. Her first regular rounds were with friends, and she quickly became enamored of golf and the caddies whom she felt were such a hard-working and bright group of young people.  Mr. Croce felt the same and even chose to hire one of Sally’s regular caddies after he finished at Boston College, a man who still works at Bob’s investment company to this day. The Croce’s have been phenomenal Ouimet donors and their scholarship will primarily be directed to Ouimet Scholars who worked at Brae Burn or Hatherly. The inaugural recipient is Nathan Ng, a junior at UMass Amherst majoring in Computer Science who performed his golf service at Brae Burn Country Club.

PETER DALTON SCHOLARSHIPEstablished in Honor of a Ouimet Alumnus

The Peter Dalton Scholarship was created in honor of Mr. Dalton, who passed away in 2016. It was funded by memorial donations and a memorial golf tournament held by his family and friends in 2016 at Tedesco

Country Club. Mr. Dalton had been the Ouimet Chair at Tedesco and supported The Fund in many ways including supplying much of the ProQuip clothing and merchandise used during the Ouimet Centennial. He was a great advocate of caddies, and encouraged numerous young people to apply for Ouimet Scholarships. Peter grew up in Beverly, worked at Myopia Hunt Club as a caddie and then went on to Boston College where he played on the golf team. He worked in golf sales for most of his career, including for 21 years with the Ben Hogan Company. He always felt a highlight was having played golf with Mr. Hogan. This award is for a Ouimet Scholar from the North Shore and/or one who displays great heart, drive and determination. This year’s recipient is Adam Dishman, a junior at University of New Hampshire majoring in Communication who performed his golf service at Tedesco Country Club.

JOHN F. FLAVIN CONCORD COUNTRY CLUB SCHOLARSHIP

Originally established as the Concord Country Club Scholarship in 2010, the contributors of this award agreed to change the name to the John F. Flavin Concord Country Club Scholarship in

2013 after contributions to the endowed fund were made by the late Dr. Flavin’s five children. Dr. Flavin and his wife of 63 years, Evelyn, were active members of Concord Country Club. Jack, as he was familiarly known, was passionate about the game of golf and played many of the courses along the East Coast. He was a former Concord Country Club president, member of the Hickory Shafts, New England Senior Golfers Association, and a supporter of the Ouimet Fund for many years. The John F. Flavin Concord Country Club Scholarship Club Scholarship is awarded to a Ouimet Scholar from Concord Country Club. This year’s recipient is William Glynn, a senior at Providence College majoring in Mathematics/Secondary Education.

ADELE FOLEY SCHOLARSHIPEstablished by a Ouimet Alumnus

This award is named for the late Wollaston Golf Club member and is for a female Ouimet Scholar. The award was instituted in 1998 and the first Ouimet endowed award named after a woman. Adele Foley was

the wife of the late Bill Foley, Alumnus and former President of the Ouimet Fund. This year’s recipient is Mary Larson, a sophomore at UMass Amherst who performed her golf service at Marshfield Country Club.

CHARLES AND JANICE FOX SCHOLARSHIPEstablished in honor of a Ouimet Alumnus

The Charles and Janice Fox Scholarship was established by their children in 2005. Charles Fox, Sr., is a Ouimet Scholarship Alumnus, former

President and longtime Trustee. He was President of the Ouimet Fund when the original Ouimet Golf House project was begun in the mid-seventies and was in charge of the fundraising program. He has also assisted The Fund in several other projects and was presented The Fund’s Distinguished Service Award in 2000. Janice Fox has also assisted The Fund in many volunteer efforts. The Fox Award is for a Ouimet Scholar who has performed exemplary community service. This year’s recipient is Thomas Grandon, a sophomore at Xavier University majoring in Philosophy, Politics and The Public who performed his golf service at Winchester Country Club.

KILLER FOY SCHOLARSHIPInner-City Award

The Killer Foy Scholarship was established in 2012 with a donation from The Freckles Foundation. Subsequent donations have been made by Rob and Sue Bushman. Mr. Foy was a longtime PGA TOUR caddie, a member of

the Professional Caddies Association Hall of Fame, and a great mentor to many. The scholarship is for Ouimet Scholars agreeing to take, at a minimum, one college accounting course and who performed their service to golf at The Country Club, William J. Devine at Franklin Park Golf Course, George Wright Golf Course or the Robert T. Lynch Municipal Golf Course at Putterham-Brookline. This year’s recipients are Robert Bedard, Solomon Debose, Jr. and Nicolas Goffredo. Robert is a sophomore at UMass Lowell majoring in Business Administration who performed his golf service at The Country Club. Solomon is a junior at UMass Dartmouth majoring in Business Administration who performed his golf service at William J Devine Golf Course at Franklin Park. Nicolas is a sophomore at Salve Regina University majoring in Accounting who performed his golf service at George Wright Golf Course.

DONOVAN FAMILY SCHOLARSHIPThis award was established in the Centennial year of 2013 by Ouimet Fund Executive Director Bob Donovan and his wife, Theresa. It was created in honor of Bob’s late father, J.J. Donovan, who died in 1997. He

started in the game caddying with his father on the North Shore and was deeply involved in and passionate about golf his entire life. He enjoyed playing the game with his wife, Lola, and passed on the love of the game to his son and grandchildren who were fourth generation caddies. The Donovan Family Scholarship is for a Ouimet Scholar who enthusiastically participates in Ouimet activities and events. This year’s recipient is William Wysocki, a senior at Bryant University majoring in Business Administration and Finance who performed his golf service at Blue Hill Country Club.

ED DUDLEY AWARDInner-City Award

The Ed Dudley Award was created after the 2003 Annual Banquet at the request of honoree Chi Chi Rodridguez, in honor of his teacher and mentor Ed Dudley. Mr. Dudley taught Chi Chi when he was Head

Professional at Dorado Beach Country Club in Puerto Rico. Mr. Dudley, who passed away in 1963, had a superb career in golf. He was the first head professional at Augusta National Golf Club and served as a professional at The Broadmoor in Colorado for 22 years. He finished third in the 1937 Masters. He is best remembered as a teacher, and his students included former President Dwight D. “Ike” Eisenhower, whom he cured of his slice, former USGA President Judy Bell, Bing Crosby and Bob Hope. He served as President of the PGA of America from 1942-1948 and was elected to the PGA Golf Hall of Fame in 1964. This year’s recipient is James Nussbaum, a senior at Coastal Carolina University majoring in Professional Golf Management who performed his golf service at Winchester Country Club.

CHARLIE EARP SCHOLARSHIP The Earp Award was funded by proceeds of the Ouimet Fund’s 2005 Annual Banquet at the recommendation of the Banquet’s honoree, Greg Norman. Mr. Earp is a legendary Australian professional who

mentored Mr. Norman. Mr. Earp was regarded as one of the world’s finest club professionals. He was a tremendous champion of junior golf who has coached thousands of young players. In addition to Mr. Norman, other Earp protégés include former PGA champ Wayne Grady, Hall of Famer Karrie Webb and Masters Champion Adam Scott. Mr. Earp was instrumental in the founding of the Greg Norman Golf Foundation and served as President and Chairman. This year’s recipient is Joseph Flynn, a freshman at Pennsylvania State University majoring in Professional Golf Management who performed his golf service at The Kittansett Club.

EASTWARD HO! SCHOLARSHIPThe Eastward Ho! Scholarship was established in 2007 by a group of Eastward Ho! members who made donations and credited Ouimet

Society Lifetime Memberships toward a special scholarship. The award is for Ouimet Scholars from Eastward Ho! This year’s recipient is Christian Pavlakis, a junior at Elms College majoring in Accounting and Management.

RAYMOND FAXON SCHOLARSHIPThis award was established in 1999 and is one of the largest endowments established through the Ouimet Fund. It was created by the late Mr. Raymond Faxon and is for Ouimet Scholars from Cape Cod. Part of the proceeds from the

2015 Annual Banquet honoring his grandson, Brad, went towards this scholarship. Mr. Faxon had been a very successful investor who was also involved in golf for many years. He founded or managed several caddie camps on the Cape when he was young. This year’s recipients are Curtis Balthazard and Victoria Sci. Curtis is a sophomore at University of Rhode Island majoring in Finance who performed his golf service at Oyster Harbors Club. Victoria is a sophomore at Emerson College majoring in Communication Disorders who performed her golf service at Eastward Ho!.

JOHN F. GILLIS, SR. SCHOLARSHIPThis scholarship was created by the family of the late John F. Gillis, Sr., who died in 2007. Mr. Gillis was a 40 year employee of General Electric in Lynn and Everett who was known for incredible devotion to family.

He was married to Helen Gillis and was great-grandfather to 11 children. He lived in West Lynn for many years and then Mashpee, where he was very active in Christ the King Church. The John F. Gillis, Sr. Scholarship is for a Ouimet Scholar who attends Northeastern University. This year’s recipient is Brendan P. Murphy, a freshman at Northeastern University who performed his golf service at Oakley Country Club.

SIDNEY GOLDSTEIN SCHOLARSHIPThis award honors the late founder of CVS/Caremark and was instituted in 1996. The award was funded by proceeds of the Sidney Goldstein Memorial Tournament. The Goldstein Scholarship is for

a Ouimet Scholar who is studying business or pharmacy. This year’s recipient is Ryan Dooley, a sophomore at University of New Hampshire majoring in Business Administration who performed his golf service at Hyannisport Club.

DENNETT GOODRICH SCHOLARSHIPThe Dennett Goodrich Scholarship was created by a large group of his friends in 2015 in honor of Mr. Goodrich, who was a member of the Ouimet Board of Directors for 37 years and a tremendous

supporter in many ways. He was Ouimet President from 1990-1992 and served on and chaired many Ouimet committees, including as the Vice Chair of the Ouimet Fund’s Annual Banquets for 13 years. He also played in the Ouimet Marathon several times and fundraised for many more years in his role as Ouimet Chair at Dedham Country & Polo Club. The Ouimet Fund’s Honorary Alumnus Award was named after him in 2009 and he was also an inaugural recipient of The Fund’s Richard F. Connolly, Jr. Distinguished Service Award in 2000. The Dennett Goodrich Scholarship is for a Ouimet Scholar from Dedham Country & Polo Club. This year’s recipient is Matthew Smith, a freshman at Providence College.

PAUL GRAVELINE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIPThe Paul Graveline Memorial Scholarship was created in honor of Mr. Graveline, who passed away in 2017. It was funded by donations to a golf tournament and dinner in 2018 organized by his family and

friends at The Ridge Club, and the club’s dedicated staff. Faith, family and friends were so important to Paul, and the event and the resulting scholarship are a fitting and impactful honor. He loved golf and the young men and women who worked at The Ridge Club, and this lasting tribute will annually help a Ouimet Scholar from The Ridge Club attend college. This year’s recipient is John Hurley, a sophomore at DePaul University majoring in Finance.

BOB AND JANET GRIFFIN SCHOLARSHIPNew in 2019

This award was created in 2019 by Bob and Janet Griffin. They both graduated from Boston College in 1971, were married in 1973 and are

parents to their four beloved children. They have been members of Tedesco Country Club for over 40 years. They love the game of golf and are both Lifetime Members of the Francis Ouimet Society who consistently participate in the Ouimet student interviews, and are both Rules Officials for Mass Golf. They consider the establishment of this scholarship as their way of giving back to the game they love. The Griffin Scholarship is unrestricted, and the inaugural recipient is Sean O’Grady, a junior at University of New Hampshire majoring in Sociology and Justice Studies who performed his golf service at Bear Hill Golf Club.

JOHN P. HAMILL SCHOLARSHIPInner-City Award

The John P. Hamill Scholarship was established from the proceeds of the 2005 Spirit of Golf event in which Mr. Hamill was honored for his love of the game of golf and commitment to charitable and community

endeavors. Mr. Hamill was Chairman of Sovereign Bank and formerly was President of Fleet National Bank and President at Shawmut. He is a member of Eastward Ho!, Cape Cod National Golf Club, and Wellesley Country Club. The Hamill Scholarship is for a Ouimet Scholar from the inner-city. This year’s recipient is Connor Blount, a junior at Suffolk University majoring in Sociology who performed his golf service at George Wright Golf Course.

FROST FAMILY SCHOLARSHIPThe Frost Family Scholarship was established by Mark and Lynn Frost. Mr. Frost is the author of “The Greatest Game Ever Played” and

also wrote the screenplay for and co-produced the movie that was released by Disney Studios in 2005. The Frost Family Scholarship is for Ouimet Scholars who are studying art, dance, theatre, film or related studies. This year’s recipient is Joseph Bertagna, a senior at Harvard University majoring in English who performed his golf service at Essex County Club.

MIKE AND LINDA FURYK SCHOLARSHIPThe Mike and Linda Furyk Scholarship was established in 2018 at the request of Jim Furyk, from the proceeds of the Ouimet Fund’s 2018

Annual Banquet which honored Jim. Jim describes his parents, Mike and Linda, as his biggest supporters. Mike, who worked at Westchester Country Club and Uniontown Country Club in Western Pennsylvania, and then was a salesman for Tommy Armour Golf for 18 years, has been Jim’s only swing coach and teacher his entire life. Linda also had an enormous impact on Jim’s career, spending Jim’s late teens working to help finance Jim’s amateur golf career. Mike and Linda Furyk have been with their son many times at big events, including being with him on Father’s Day in 2003 when Jim won the U.S. Open Championship at Olympia Fields in Chicago. This year’s recipient is Brian Halloran, a senior at Coastal Carolina University majoring in Professional Golf Management who performed his golf service at The Milton Hoosic Club.

GALLAGHER-SPELLMAN SCHOLARSHIPInner-City Award

This was created in 2008 by Ouimet Director John F. Gallagher III in honor of his late father, Dr. John F. Gallagher, Jr. who died in 1982, and uncle, Frank R. Spellman, who died in 2017. Mr. Spellman was an

investment adviser. The award is for a Ouimet Scholar from the Dorchester or other inner-city areas of Boston. This year’s recipient is John Knight, Jr., a senior at Tufts University majoring in Sociology who performed his golf service at William J Devine Golf Course at Franklin Park.

RICHARD J. GANONG SCHOLARSHIPEstablished in honor of a Ouimet Alumnus

This award honors the late Mr. Ganong, who grew up as a caddie at Brae Burn Country Club. Mr. Ganong went on to attend Boston College with

the help of a Ouimet Scholarship. He also played college golf at BC. Mr. Ganong spent his entire working career in the investment business, retiring as a Director from Schroder Wertheim in 2002. He was a member of Wellesley Country Club, and former member of Charles River Country Club. He was a Ouimet Fund Board Member from 1991-2009, and served as Alumni Chairman from 1991-2002. He was a golf rules official and served on the Mass Golf Executive Committee. He died in 2014. The Richard J. Ganong Scholarship is primarily limited to Ouimet Scholars from Brae Burn or Wellesley Country Clubs. The award was established by his family. This year’s recipient is Charlotte Vahey, a freshman at Providence College who performed her golf service at Wellesley Country Club.

JOE GILL SCHOLARSHIPInner-City AwardEstablished by Ouimet Alumni

The Joe Gill Scholarship was established in 2013 in honor of Joseph Gill, Sr. The scholarship is funded, in part, by proceeds of the annual Igoe Memorial Golf Tournament at Wellesley Country Club. The Igoe is a

New England PGA Pro-Am that has benefitted the Ouimet Fund for over 45 years. In recent years, the tournament has funded endowed scholarships in honor of long time Golf Professional Les Bond, club members David and Jane Parker and Rand Alexander. The tournament is co-chaired by Ouimet Alums Ed Vahey and Dave Coughlin. Mr. Gill, who died in 2018, was a long-time Wellesley member and avid golfer who has been an enthusiastic supporter of the Ouimet Fund through the Igoe Memorial Tournament. Joe was also an avid supporter of the caddie program at Wellesley. He was a successful automobile dealer in Natick, MA who looked with pride at his roots in a housing project in Charlestown. The Gill Scholarship is for a Ouimet inner-city Scholar. This year’s recipient is Domenic Scialoia, a senior at St Josephs College of Maine majoring in Exercise Science who performed his golf service at George Wright Golf Course.

MAY JACKSON SCHOLARSHIP This award was established in 2013 in honor of the late May Jackson by her family. It honors Mrs. Jackson, a long-time member at The Country Club, who won the women’s club championship there 13 times

and also won the club championship at Wianno Golf Club. She was a frequent participant in WGAM tournaments and President of the Association in 1948-49. The WGAM’s May Jackson Award was considered its most prestigious and has recognized outstanding women who have contributed to the growth of women’s golf. The Jackson Scholarship is for a Ouimet Scholar who performed his or her golf service at The Country Club. This year’s recipient is Benjamin Vernon, a junior at Arizona State University majoring in Sociology.

ERLING JACOBSEN SCHOLARSHIPThe Erling Jacobsen Scholarship was established in 2006 at the request of Peter Jacobsen from the proceeds of the Ouimet Fund’s Annual

Banquet, which honored Peter. Erling Jacobsen had been an excellent athlete and played college football at the University of Oregon and two years of professional football in Los Angeles. He and his wife, Barbara, raised four children, and brought them into an active, busy life centered around the game of golf. At one point, the total handicap of all six Jacobsens was 26. Erling loved to teach others and was very knowledgeable about all aspects of the game. After he was diagnosed with cancer in 1985, he traveled to many PGA TOUR events with his son, Peter, even playing in several pro-ams. He passed on a great love of the game and humor to his children. This year’s recipient is Devyn Olds, a senior at Coastal Carolina University majoring in Professional Golf Management who performed his golf service at Greenock Country Club.

KEITH-HOON SCHOLARSHIP Inner-City Award

This was established in 2013 by John W. Keith and Shelley Hoon. Mr. Keith is the founder and CEO of The Keith Companies, Inc., of Canton, MA and has been involved in the residential development industry for more

than 50 years. Over the years, John has greatly expanded his development projects. In 1993, he founded Keith Construction, Inc., which focuses on building new and renovating existing and occupied apartment communities and today manages 1,300 affordable apartments. Mr. Keith is a Trustee of Curry College and is involved in many charities. He and his wife, Shelley Hoon Keith have been honored with many community awards. They both have a deep interest in helping in the inner-city and the Keith-Hoon Scholarship is for a Ouimet Scholar from Fall River, Lawrence or New Bedford. This year’s recipient is Julia Lamarre, a freshman at Villanova University who performed her golf service at Country Club of New Bedford.

TED KENERSON BRAE BURN CADDIE SCHOLARSHIP

The Kenerson Award was established after his death in 2004. Mr. Kenerson was a former president (1992-1994) of the Ouimet Fund, a long-time member of the Scholarship Committee

and had a superb record in competitive golf. As Ouimet Fund President, he started the Ouimet Golf Marathon and worked tirelessly on the effort to put an addition on The Fund’s former building in Weston. Mr. Kenerson was a member of Brae Burn Country Club and the Kenerson Award is for a caddie from that club. This year’s recipient is John Forte, a senior at UMass Boston majoring in Communication.

HERITAGE SCHOLARSHIPInner-City Award

The Heritage Scholarship was the Ouimet Fund’s first inner-city scholarship, and it has inspired 23 inner-city endowed scholarships within the Ouimet Fund since its creation in 2001. Heritage winners can come

from Boston, Chelsea, Fall River, Holyoke, Lawrence, Lowell, New Bedford, Somerville, Springfield, and Worcester. The award was funded partially by donations from Bob Anderson and Ouimet Alumnus Allen Doyle from his 2001 Champions Tour Charles Schwab Cup bonus. This year’s recipient is Kevin Asirifi, a senior at Bridgewater State University majoring in Public Health who performed his golf service at Worcester Country Club.

TED HIGHBERGER, SR. AWARDThis award is named after Ted Highberger, Sr., who died in 1987. Mr. Highberger was a metallurgist who had a passionate love of golf. The award was funded by former Ouimet Fund President Ted Highberger, Jr. (2006-2008)

in 1998 and is for a Ouimet Scholar who is an outstanding business student. This year’s recipients are Hannah Ghelfi and Cole Manning. Hannah is a senior at University of Michigan majoring in Business Administration who performed her golf service at Pocasset Golf Club. Cole is a senior at Providence College majoring in Business Management who performed his golf service at Boston Golf Club.

ELLEN HINES SCHOLARSHIPThe Ellen Hines Scholarship was created from proceeds of the 2007 Ouimet Annual Banquet at the request of Banquet honorees Barbara and Jack Nicklaus, who were longtime friends of Ellen and John

Hines. Mrs. Hines died in 2005 and John died in 2014. She was a Fontbonne Academy and Regis College graduate and former St. Patrick’s of Natick grade school teacher. Both Boston natives, John and Ellen lived for many years in the Columbus, Ohio and Jupiter, Florida areas. Mrs. Hines was a fine golfer and lover of the game, family and travel and was a member of Woods Hole Golf Club for 35 years. The Scholarship is for a Ouimet Scholar who is studying for a career in education. This year’s recipient is Austin Villalobos, a sophomore at Lesley University majoring in History and Secondary Education who performed his golf service at Tedesco Country Club.

JACK HOBBS SCHOLARSHIPThe Hobbs Award was established in 2004 after the death of John W. F. Hobbs. Mr. Hobbs was a lifelong lover of golf and a member of the Long Cove Club, The Kittansett Club, Mid-Ocean Club and

Winchester Country Club. He was also very active with the United States Senior Golf Association and Chairman of their annual tournament at Kittansett. Mr. Hobbs also served on the MGA Executive Committee with Francis Ouimet in 1931. Mr. Hobbs was Vice President in charge of Real Estate Trusts for New England Merchants Bank until his retirement in 1986, and then head of the Hampton Beach Improvement Company in New Hampshire. The Hobbs Scholarship is for a Ouimet Scholar from Kittansett Club or who is a resident of Marion or a surrounding community. This year’s recipient is Jacob Yeomans, a sophomore at University of Connecticut who performed his golf service at The Bay Club at Mattapoisett.

DAVID HOWARD AWARDCreated in 1992 and named after the late golf professional at Salem and North Andover Country Clubs, this award is limited to a Ouimet Scholar from the North Shore, Marshfield or Cape Cod with fine academic

credentials and outstanding golf service. This year’s recipient is Adam Linsky, a senior at Wesleyan University majoring in Math who performed his golf service at Tedesco Country Club.

HYANNISPORT CLUB MEMORIAL AWARDEstablished in 2001, this award has been created by the membership of the Hyannisport Club and is for a Ouimet Scholar from that club. The award has been funded by a donation

JAMES E. LEHMAN SCHOLARSHIPThe James E. Lehman Scholarship was created from proceeds of the 2016 Ouimet Annual Banquet at the request of his son, Banquet honoree Tom Lehman. Mr. Lehman, who died in 2009, was an

All-American halfback and MIAC Conference MVP at St. John’s University in Collegeville, MN. He went into the Navy in Norfolk, VA after college and subsequently signed a contract to play for the Baltimore Colts in 1958. He played only a short time for Baltimore before injury ended his football career. In later years, Mr. Lehman owned an insurance business in the Alexandria, MN area where sons Tom, Jim and Mike Lehman grew up and played football, basketball and golf. This year’s recipient is Nathan Balthazard, a junior at Sacred Heart University majoring in Finance who performed his golf service at Oyster Harbors Club.

LOCKWOOD SCHOLARSHIPNew in 2019

The Lockwood Scholarship was established by a large group of Mr. Lockwood’s friends in 2019 in gratitude for Mr. Lockwood’s generosity in hosting them at an annual event at his LaPlaya Golf Club in Naples, Florida and

his willingness to support many endeavors of his friends through philanthropy or otherwise. Mr. Lockwood is known for his great love of the game, and the staff and caddies at Tedesco Country Club where he and his friends are members. He grew up in Philadelphia, the son of a Philadelphia fireman, and although he is a very successful businessman, he has never forgotten his roots. His Stephen J. Lockwood Company, LLC is a financial holding company with investments in real estate and property management, insurance and reinsurance, restaurants, golf course management and investments in start-up companies. The Lockwood Scholarship will be for a Ouimet Scholar from Tedesco Country Club. The inaugural recipients are Andrew Dove and Austin Villalobos. Andrew is a junior at Coastal Carolina University majoring in Professional Golf Management. Austin is a sophomore at Lesley University majoring in History and Secondary Education.

DOMINGO LOPEZ SCHOLARSHIPInner-City Award

The Lopez Scholarship was created after the 2004 Annual Banquet at the request of the honoree, Nancy Lopez, who is his daughter. Mr. Lopez taught her the game of golf when she was eight years old in her

hometown of Roswell, NM as part of a therapy program for his wife, Marina, who was suffering from a lung disorder. Domingo Lopez was Nancy’s coach and teacher through her junior career. Sadly, Marina Lopez died just before Nancy won as a rookie on the LPGA Tour, but Domingo Lopez was with her for several of her early victories, which she dedicated to her family. He died in 2002 at the age of 87. This year’s recipient is Siobhan Ford, a junior at UMass Amherst majoring in Nursing who performed her golf service at George Wright Golf Course.

EDDIE LOWERY AWARDThis award is for a Ouimet Scholar who is a caddie at a supporting club. Eddie Lowery became famous as Francis Ouimet’s ten-year-old caddie in the 1913 U.S. Open Championship. The image of

Ouimet and Lowery walking together is one of the most famous in golf, and is used as the Ouimet Fund’s logo. Mr. Lowery went on to become a fine golfer and very successful businessman in California, and he remained close to Mr. Ouimet throughout his life. Mr. Lowery died in 1984 in California. The award was established in 1998 and was funded by Mrs. Margaret Lowery. Mr. and Mrs. Lowery’s daughter Cynthia Wilcox is now on the Ouimet Board of Directors. This year’s recipient is Jack Pipatti, a senior at University of Virginia majoring in Statistics and Economics who performed his golf service at Oyster Harbors Club.

MARGARET LOWERY AWARDThis award was established in the year 2000 in memory of Margaret Lowery, widow of Eddie Lowery. Mrs. Lowery died in 2000. Mrs. Lowery was a great friend and supporter of the Ouimet Fund. This

year’s recipient is Hayden Gillooly, a junior at Williams College majoring in Foreign Language who performed her golf service at Taconic Golf Club.

KENNEDY FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP This award was established by Terry and Kathy Kennedy in 2012. Mr. Kennedy was President of the Ouimet Fund from 2012 – 2014, has

been a Ouimet Director for 17 years, and a Ouimet Society Lifetime Member. He also served as Centennial Chair and supports The Fund in every way. Terry and Kathy enjoy membership at Wollaston and Farm Neck Golf Clubs, and with their children, have greatly enjoyed the game of golf and the spirit of giving back. Mr. Kennedy is a Director with RSM US LLP in Boston. This award for a Ouimet Scholar is unrestricted. This year’s recipient is Rory McCrossan, a junior at Providence College majoring in Finance who performed his golf service at Oakley Country Club.

SCOTT KING SCHOLARSHIPEstablished in honor of a Ouimet Alumnus

The Scott King Scholarship was established by the family and friends of Mr. King, who died in 1999. Scott was a former Ouimet Scholar who had worked on the course superintendent crew at Concord Country Club prior to

his career in banking. The Scott King Scholarship is for a Ouimet Scholar who has worked in course superintendent operations, preferably in the Boston Metro West area. This year’s recipient is Luis Diaz, a senior at UMass Lowell majoring in Music who performed his golf service at Hopkinton Country Club.

WILLIAM R. KING SCHOLARSHIPFriends and family of Bill King, who died in 1999, established this award through memorial donations and a Bill King Memorial Tournament held in 2000. Mr. King was a long-time Ouimet Chairman at Vesper

Country Club and great supporter of caddies. The William R. King Scholarship is for a Ouimet Scholar from the Lowell area. This year’s recipient is Eric Roy, a sophomore at UMass Lowell majoring in Environmental Science who performed his golf service at Vesper Country Club.

EDWARD J. KROVITZ, JR. SCHOLARSHIPEstablished by a Ouimet Alumnus

The Edward J. Krovitz, Jr. Scholarship was established in 2015 by the Krovitz Family. Ed was very passionate about both golf and access to higher education; he very much appreciated how the Ouimet

Fund brought together the vast golf community. Ed was a four-year member of the Georgetown University golf team, and continued to compete at the state amateur level following graduation as well as taking on many responsibilities at his local club. He was very involved in the American Seniors Golf Association and competed in many events with them. He ran a successful family business for decades before passing it on to the next generation. Ed always respected the etiquette, traditions and gentlemanly nature of the game and carried those traits through to his personal and professional life. The Edward J. Krovitz, Jr. Scholarship is awarded to a North Shore Candidate that will pursue a degree in Business/Management Sciences. This year’s recipient is Christopher Cole, a junior at Endicott College majoring in Business Management who performed his golf service at Salem Country Club.

NEWELL B. KURSON SCHOLARSHIPThe Kurson Scholarship was established in 2006 by his daughter

and son-in-law, Nancy and Richard Lubin. Mr. Kurson was President of the Ouimet Fund from 1975 - 1977. During that time, The Fund opened the long awaited Golf House building in Weston. He was a long-time

member of Belmont Country Club, where he served as President from 1966 - 1970. The Newell B. Kurson Scholarship is primarily limited to Ouimet Scholars from Belmont Country Club. JOHN J. McCAFFERTY SCHOLARSHIPInner-City Award

This award was established in 2003 through the proceeds of the Emerald Isle Boston Golf Classic, which became the first Spirit of Golf event. It honors the memory of the late Mr. McCafferty, a former Ouimet Fund Director, Trustee

and Treasurer who was a member at Woodland Golf Club and Oyster Harbors Club. He had been a senior partner at Ernst and Young in Boston and also served with the New England Senior Golfers’ Association. The McCafferty Scholarship is for Ouimet Scholars from the inner-city who are pursuing a career in business. This year’s recipients are Solomon Debose, Jr. and James Monday. Solomon is a junior at UMass Dartmouth majoring in Business Administration who performed his golf service at William J Devine Golf Course at Franklin Park. James is a sophomore at Bentley University majoring in Business Marketing who performed his golf service at William J Devine Golf Course at Franklin Park.

BOB AND ELAINE McDONALD FAMILY SCHOLARSHIPEstablished by a Ouimet Alumnus

The Bob and Elaine McDonald Family Scholarship was established in 2018 through gifts by Mr. McDonald and his sons, Bob, Jr., Steve

and Mike. Mr. McDonald was a member of the original class of 13 Ouimet Scholars in 1949. He had caddied at The Country Club. He went on to MIT where he captained the golf team and following graduation served for two years in the Air Force. He then received an MBA from Harvard Business School. He had a very successful career in construction, including as President of Erland Construction from 1983-1996 and as Chair of Erland Construction since 1983. He also found time for golf and served as President of Charles River Country Club. Mr. McDonald has been a Ouimet Fund Trustee for many years and oversaw the construction of the Ouimet Fund’s original offices and museum in 1975. His wife, Elaine, graduated from Emmanuel College and earned a Masters Degree at Lesley College and was a long-time Special Education teacher and administrator in Waltham. She passed away in 2016. The Bob and Elaine McDonald Family Scholarship is for a Ouimet Scholar who is pursuing a major in Construction Engineering, Real Estate, Business or Education. This year’s recipient is Riley Demanche, a sophomore at Bentley University majoring in Business who performed his golf service at The Ridge Club.

McDONALD FAMILY SCHOLARSHIPEstablished by a Ouimet Alumnus

The McDonald Family Scholarship was created by Joseph McDonald in 2017. Mr. McDonald started in golf as a caddie at age 11 at Charles River Country Club where he caddied for Francis Ouimet and

went on to caddie for him weekly for the next seven years. Mr. McDonald points with pride to the Ouimet scholarship recommendation letter Mr. Ouimet wrote for him. He went on to receive a full Ouimet Scholarship to Ohio University in 1967. Mr. McDonald became an insurance executive and a fine amateur golfer, playing in the Ouimet Memorial Tournament 22 times. He is a member at Charles River and his wife, Laura, is also a good player. The McDonald Scholarship is for a Ouimet scholar who has performed his or her service at Charles River and are from Boston, or an inner-city Boston student, or a business student. This year’s recipient is Eileen Lent, a senior at Hobart and William Smith Colleges majoring in English who performed her golf service at Charles River Country Club.

JAMES McDONOUGH SCHOLARSHIP The James McDonough Scholarship was established in 2012 in memory of James by his parents, Peggy and Jim McDonough. James died in February of 2011 in an accident. He was a member

of Wollaston Golf Club and a graduate of St. Sebastian’s School and was a senior at Rollins College where he was a member of the golf team. He was a very promising golfer and known as a friend and mentor to many other players. The McDonough Scholarship is partially funded by proceeds of the James McDonough Fourball Tournament held annually at Wollaston Golf Club. The James McDonough Scholarship is for a Ouimet Scholar who demonstrates a commitment to and love for the game of golf or who exhibits kindness, sensitivity, good cheer and an enduring passion. This year’s recipient is Connor Proctor, a junior at Boston College majoring in Finance who performed his golf service at The Milton Hoosic Club.

PETER S. LYNCH SCHOLARSHIPEstablished in Honor of a Ouimet Alumnus Inner-City Award

The Peter S. Lynch Scholarship was created in 2016 from a major gift from the Lynch Foundation. An Alumnus and Trustee, Mr. Lynch ’65 caddied at Brae Burn Country Club in Newton as a teen and received the Ouimet Scholarship

throughout his four years at Boston College. He subsequently earned an MBA at the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School and then embarked on a renowned career at Fidelity. Mr. Lynch went on to become Portfolio Manager of Fidelity’s Magellan Fund for 13 years, where it became the largest and best-performing mutual fund in the world. Mr. Lynch was the principal speaker at The Fund’s Annual Banquet in 1995. He has been a major donor to Ouimet initiatives and received the Richard F. Connolly, Jr. Distinguished Service Award in 2010. The Lynch Scholarship is for inner-city Ouimet Scholars, primarily from Boston. This year’s recipients are Mcphillips Akukwe and Edgar Miranda. Mcphillips is a sophomore at Boston College majoring in Nursing who performed his golf service at George Wright Golf Course. Edgar is a senior at Hobart and William Smith Colleges majoring in English who performed his golf service at William J Devine Golf Course at Franklin Park.

FRED AND MARION MACQUARRIE SCHOLARSHIPInner-City Award

The Fred and Marion MacQuarrie Scholarship was established in 2014 by Lifetime Member Stephen MacQuarrie and his wife, Kate Martin, in memory of his parents, Fred and Marion MacQuarrie who

met when they were both working at the old United Shoe Golf Course in Beverly. The MacQuarrie Scholarship is for a Ouimet Scholar from Boston, Lynn, Lawrence, New Bedford, Springfield, Holyoke, Fitchburg, Brockton, Worcester, Lowell or Chelsea. This year’s recipient is Madison Davies, a freshman at UMass Boston who performed her golf service at George Wright Golf Course.

BILLY MAICH AWARDThis award was established in 1998 and is named after Mr. Maich, who grew up as a caddie at Longshore Country Club in Westport, CT and had a lifelong love of golf, caddying and helping young people. Mr.

Maich died in 2004. The award was established by his late son, Peter, who died in 2014. Peter Maich was a long-time Ouimet Director and will forever be remembered as Banquet Chair in Memoriam. The award is for a Ouimet Scholar from Wollaston Golf Club. This year’s recipient is David Yang, a sophomore at Hamilton College majoring in Economics.

MARTIN FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP The Martin Family Scholarship was established in 2014 by Thomas and June Martin. Mr. Martin, who died in 2017, served on the Board

of Directors for many years. Mr. Martin’s company, Cramer, has been a longtime partner to the Ouimet Fund in all of our video production and website development projects. The Martin Family Scholarship is for a Ouimet Scholar who plays golf or attends Amherst College, Boston College, Catholic University, The College of the Holy Cross, Merrimack College or Quinnipiac University. This year’s recipient is Madeline Belden, a senior at The College of the Holy Cross majoring in International Studies who performed her golf service at Worcester Country Club.

JOHN D. MINECK CADDIE SCHOLARSHIPEstablished in 2008, the John D. Mineck Caddie Scholarship was created in memory of the late founder of the Boston Golf Club. Each year’s recipient is announced at the annual John D. Mineck Foundation Invitational

at Boston Golf Club. The John D. Mineck Caddie Scholarship is restricted to caddies and outside operations staff from Boston Golf Club. This year’s recipient is Dylan Parnell, a sophomore at San Diego State University majoring in Management.

MIX-JORDAN SCHOLARSHIPThis unrestricted award was established in 2013 in honor of Bob Mix, who died in 2011, by his surviving partner Bob Jordan. Mr. Mix was a Ouimet Director for many years, former Ouimet Bag Tag Chairman, the long-

time Oyster Harbors Club Ouimet Chair, and the 2002 recipient of the Ouimet Chair of the Year Award. He had a deep commitment to the Ouimet Fund and its scholars, and greatly enjoyed serving as an interviewer. He had been a golf professional in New York and Florida. Mr. Jordan, who died in 2014, also worked as a golf professional in Vermont, New York and Florida. This year’s recipient is Marcus DeFelice, a junior at Fairfield University majoring in Mathematics who performed his golf service at The Ridge Club.

JOSEPH MORRILL AWARDThis award was established in 1978 and is funded by contributions of The Bay State Seniors’ Golf Association. It is intended for a Scholar studying golf course agronomy or a Scholar who has worked

in course superintendent operations. This year’s recipient is Matthew Campbell, a junior at UMass Stockbridge majoring in Turfgrass Management who performed his golf service at George Wright Golf Course.

DIANE MUNNS SCHOLARSHIPThe Diane Munns Scholarship was established in 2018 by Lesley Osborn and Ouimet Lifetime Member Dave Osborn in memory of Lesley’s

Mom, Diane Munns. Diane modeled a strong work ethic in physical and intellectual pursuits, and encouraged and developed a sense of self-reliance and a good sense of humor in her three daughters. The Diane Munns Scholarship is for a Ouimet Scholar from Boston Golf Club. This year’s recipient is Maxwell Pomroy, a junior at University of San Diego majoring in Finance who performed his golf service at Boston Golf Club.

FRANK AND HELEN MURPHY SCHOLARSHIP Established by a Ouimet Alumnus

This Scholarship was created in memory of Frank and Helen Murphy to memorialize their love of golf, their 40-year membership at Bellevue Golf Club, and their belief in the importance of higher

education. Established in 2015 by their sons, Kenneth Murphy, MD, Michael Murphy, and Richard Murphy, PhD (a Ouimet Scholarship alumnus), the Frank and Helen Murphy Family Scholarship funds a Ouimet Scholar from Bellevue Golf Club or Mt. Hood Golf Course. This year’s recipient is Zachary Hardenstine, a junior at Endicott College majoring in English and Political Science who performed his golf service at Bellevue Golf Club.

BYRON NELSON AWARDThis award was funded by proceeds of the 2001 Ouimet Banquet at the suggestion of Ken Venturi when Mr. Venturi was honored with the Francis Ouimet Award for Lifelong Contributions to Golf, along

with Eddie Lowery. Mr. Nelson was a lifelong mentor to Mr. Venturi, and a dear friend of Eddie Lowery, Francis Ouimet’s famed 1913 caddie. This year’s recipient is Andrew Dove, a junior at Coastal Carolina University majoring in Professional Golf Management who performed his golf service at Tedesco Country Club.

HOLLY McGRATH SCHOLARSHIPInner-City Award

Holly McGrath, with The Highland Partners Charitable Fund, established this award in 2013 to honor the 100th anniversary of Francis Ouimet’s U.S. Open victory. Ms. McGrath resides in Boston and is an

active Ouimet Society Lifetime Member, as well as joining the Ouimet Board in 2011. Ms. McGrath is a member of Mr. Ouimet’s home course, Woodland Golf Club, and is deeply committed to partnering with organizations which enrich the lives of children and families in the local community. The McGrath Scholarship is for a Ouimet Scholar who has completed his or her golf service at Woodland Golf Club, or the Franklin Park or George Wright Golf Courses in Boston. This year’s recipient is Morgan Griffin, a junior at Middlebury College majoring in Biology who performed her golf service at Woodland Golf Club.

ROBERT AND JOANNE McINTOSH SCHOLARSHIPThis award was created in 2010 in honor of Bob and the late Joanne McIntosh, lifelong advocates for public golf. Bob was introduced to the game as a Depression era caddie on Massachusetts’ South Shore,

and his late wife Joanne played the game for decades with her husband, children and friends. Bob’s introduction to the game as a caddie blossomed into a passion for golf, and public golf in particular, and he has cherished the game as an outlet for competition, camaraderie, and etiquette. Their son, David, is a Ouimet Alumnus. This award was established by their daughter Lynne and her husband Paul Vanderslice for a Ouimet Scholar who performed his/her service at a public golf course. This year’s recipient is Julia Natale, a sophomore at Boston College majoring in Political Science, French and Economics who performed her golf service at Middleton Golf Course.

NEIL J. McNAMARA SCHOLARSHIPThe Neil J. McNamara Scholarship was created in 2016 in memory of Neil McNamara, who died in 2016. Mr. McNamara was a graduate of Dennis Yarmouth Regional High School and Westfield

State University. He was a successful sales professional in the internet security software sector and helped to grow the business of many companies, most noteworthy of which are, Checkpoint Software and Algosec, Inc. He was an avid and exceptional golfer who thoroughly enjoyed the camaraderie of his golfing buddies and emulated in his personality, the calm, focused attention of the game. This award was established by his family and is for a Ouimet Scholar from Cape Cod. This year’s recipient is Mathew Veary, a sophomore at The College of the Holy Cross majoring in Music and Psychology who performed his golf service at Eastward Ho!.

LAURENCE OTTO MILLER SCHOLARSHIP New in 2019

The Laurence Otto Miller Scholarship was established in 2019 at the request of Johnny Miller from the proceeds of the 2019 Ouimet Banquet, which honored Johnny. Laurence Otto Miller was Johnny’s late father

and had a great love of golf, was a fine player, and was Johnny’s first teacher. He was born in Sacramento, California in 1913, the same year Francis Ouimet won his legendary U.S. Open. Mr. Miller spent his career as a Supervisor at RCA Wireless Telegraph Communications in San Francisco. The company was the leader of technology for its time, and Mr. Miller missed only five days of work there in 37 years. Golf was a great passion for him, and he was a solid player who once won the Sportsman Flight of the prestigious San Francisco City Tournament. Larry and his wife Ida Miller raised four children together – Ronnie, Sharon, Joanie and Johnny - and Mr. Miller cherished the opportunities to spend time with his children and later his grandchildren. The inaugural recipient is Robert Malcolm III, a sophomore at Coastal Carolina University majoring in Professional Golf Management who performed his golf service at Oakley Country Club.

DAVID PAGE SCHOLARSHIPThis award was created in 2010 through proceeds of the Onstott Invitational Tournament at Brae Burn Country Club and other special donations. It is named after David Page. Mr. Page was a devoted father of three children,

loving husband and an avid golfer. He was an active member of Bald Peak Colony Club in Melvin Village, New Hampshire, Calusa Pines in Naples, Florida and Brae Burn Country Club. Always a competitor and a fighter, David battled kidney cancer for over 5 years. He would be delighted to think that one day there would be a Ouimet Scholarship in his name. This year’s recipient is Maxwell Pomroy, a junior at University of San Diego majoring in Finance who performed his golf service at Boston Golf Club.

DEACON PALMER SCHOLARSHIPThis award was established in 1998 and is named after the late father of Arnold Palmer. The Deacon Palmer Scholarship is for a Ouimet Scholar who intends to pursue a career in golf. Deacon Palmer spent his

career as a course Superintendent and Golf Professional at Latrobe Country Club in Western Pennsylvania. He died in 1976. Initial funding of the award came through proceeds of the Ouimet Fund’s “Evening with Arnold Palmer” Banquet in 1997 and another $100,000 was added to the endowment through proceeds of the 1999 “Boston Pops/Salute to the Ryder Cup and Arnold Palmer.” This year’s recipient is Joey Colesano, a sophomore at Coastal Carolina University majoring in Professional Golf Management who performed his golf service at Wianno Club.

CHARLES A. PAPPAS AWARDThe Pappas Award was established in 2002 and honors the late Mr. Pappas, a longtime member of Belmont Country Club who was an executive with C. Pappas & Company, a liquor and importing company. Mr.

Pappas was also an investment executive and was President of the Pappas Foundation and active with several charities. The Pappas Award is for a Ouimet Scholar from Belmont or Oakley Country Clubs. The Pappas Award was established by his family in memory of Mr. Pappas, who died in 2000. This year’s recipient is Matthew Johnson, a senior at Tulane University majoring in Management who performed his golf service at Belmont Country Club.

DAVE AND JANE PARKER SCHOLARSHIPEstablished by Ouimet Alumni

The Dave and Jane Parker Scholarship was established in 2010 at the 44th Igoe Memorial Tournament at Wellesley Country Club. The Igoe is a New England PGA Pro-Am and the proceeds and other special

gifts benefitted the Parker Scholarship. The event is co-chaired by Ouimet Alums Ed Vahey and Dave Coughlin. Jane Parker and her late husband, Dave, have been involved as members at Wellesley for over 50 years. During those years each devoted countless hours to the club, the MGA and the WGAM and in support of the Ouimet Fund. They always showed a deep affinity for golf and golfers. Mr. Parker served as Club Secretary for many years and chaired or co-chaired the Igoe Memorial Tournament for 33 years. Mrs. Parker was also President of the Women’s Golf Association of Massachusetts in 1988. This year’s recipient is Ryan Krueger, a freshman at UMass Lowell who performed his golf service at Wellesley Country Club.

PAUL E. PETRY/BOSTON MUTUAL LIFE INSURANCE COMPANY SCHOLARSHIP

The Paul E. Petry/Boston Mutual Life Insurance Company Scholarship was established in 2014 by Boston Mutual Life Insurance Company

in honor of its retiring CEO, Mr. Paul Petry. The Petry/Boston Mutual Life Insurance Company Scholarship is for a Ouimet Scholar attending a New England college or university. This year’s recipient is Rourke Magwood, a junior at Fairfield University majoring in Finance who performed his golf service at Marshfield Country Club.

NFL ALUMNI “TEAM SPIRIT” SCHOLARSHIP This award was established in 1998 by the New England Chapter of the National Football League Alumni and is for a Ouimet Scholar who overcomes unique challenges and has been exemplary in helping

in the home, the community, at school, at the golf course, or on a sports team. The award is funded by proceeds of the chapter’s annual NFL Alumni Golf Classic. This year’s recipient is Mohamed Nezar Nokrachi, a freshman at Seton Hall University who performed his golf service at Winchester Country Club.

WILLIAM G. O’BRIEN SCHOLARSHIP The William G. O’Brien Scholarship was created in 2013 by his widow, Gloria, through an outright gift and bequest arrangement. Mrs. O’Brien passed away in 2017. Bill served in the U.S. Marines

for 24 years and was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War. During the 1950’s, Bill was an ROTC instructor at the University of Notre Dame. Following his retirement from the Marines in 1964, he served in the banking profession until his death in 1981 at age 61. Throughout his life, Bill was an avid and accomplished golfer, winning the club championship at Concord Country Club eight times from 1964-72. This award is for a Ouimet Scholar who has performed their service at that club or another Concord area golf course. This year’s recipient is Jake Frackiewicz, a senior at Babson College majoring in Data Science who performed his golf service at Concord Country Club.

MICHAEL OHANIAN SCHOLARSHIPThis award was established in 1999 and is named after Michael Ohanian, a two-time Oakley Country Club President who won the Massachusetts Amateur Championship in 1968. Mr. Ohanian died in

1998. The Ohanian Scholarship is for a Ouimet Scholar from Oakley or a nearby club, or a Ouimet Scholar who shows great talent in and love of golf. This year’s recipient is Aidan Newell, a freshman at Catholic University of America who performed his golf service at Oakley Country Club.

ROBERT F. O’MEARA SCHOLARSHIPThe Robert F. O’Meara Scholarship was funded by proceeds of the Ouimet Fund’s 2012 Annual Banquet to honor the late father of the Banquet’s award recipient, Mark O’Meara. Bob O’Meara was a furniture

executive who developed an early admiration for golf as a caddie on Long Island. During his high school and college years, Bob earned money to fund his education and later used its lessons to teach his children the fundamentals of life. His passion for the game continued throughout his adult life and many of his lifelong friendships were forged on the golf course. One of his greatest experiences in golf was the opportunity to play on several occasions with Mark in the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am as his amateur partner. Perhaps their most endearing memories and greatest joys came when they made the team cut in 1990 and Mark went on to win the individual title. At the time, it was the third of his five career wins at Pebble Beach – a truly special father/son moment. Bob passed away in 2010, leaving behind a true legacy and love for the game of golf. This year’s recipient is Emmett O’Shea, a senior at Coastal Carolina University majoring in Professional Golf Management who performed his golf service at Gannon Municipal Golf Course.

KEVIN ONSTOTT SCHOLARSHIPEstablished in 2008, this award was created by Ouimet Director Joseph Onstott in honor of his late son. The Onstott Scholarship is in memory of Kevin Onstott, who died at the age of 27 in an accident on December 15, 2004

at Northridge Country Club in Raleigh, North Carolina where he was Assistant Superintendent. Proceeds of the annual Onstott Invitational benefited the scholarship. The Onstott Scholarship is for a Ouimet Scholar attending Methodist University, NC State or for another worthy Scholar. This year’s recipient is Steven Hopley, a senior at Methodist University majoring in Professional Golf Management who performed his golf service at Lexington Golf Club.

WENDY PRICE SCHOLARSHIP The Wendy Price Scholarship was created from proceeds of the 2017 Ouimet Annual Banquet at the request of her son, Banquet honoree Nick Price. Mrs. Price, who died in 2015, was born in Wales and

went to Nursing School in London in 1939 when the Nazi blitz occurred. She eventually became a theatre assistant and moved to India where she met Nick’s dad, who was in the British Army, in 1944. They moved to Durban, South Africa and then to Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe). Mr. Price died in 1965 and the family moved to London in 1971. Nick credits his mom for doing so much for the family in difficult times. This award is for a female Scholar. This year’s recipient is Caitlin McCosh, a senior at Bryant University majoring in Marketing who performed her golf service at Plymouth Country Club.

MILDRED GARDINOR PRUNARET AWARDThe Mildred Gardinor Prunaret Award was established in 2001 and honors one of the most important figures in Massachusetts women’s golf history. It works in conjunction with The Fund’s Carolyn N. Boday, Adele Foley, Ellen Hines, Margaret

Lowery, Martin Family, Wendy Price, Priscilla Ramsey, Carolyn Savage, Scannell Family and WGAM/Dolly Sullivan Scholarships to demonstrate The Fund’s deep commitment to encouraging young women as Ouimet Scholars. Mrs. Prunaret was a member of Brae Burn. She qualified for and competed in several USGA Women’s Amateur Championships, won the 1953 U.S. Senior Women’s Championship, and was later President of that association. Mrs. Prunaret was WGAM President and was Chairman of the USGA’s Women’s Committee from 1959-1963. Amongst her other accomplishments, she helped establish the Women’s International Team Competitions in 1964 and captained the victorious U.S. team in 1970. She also was Captain of the winning Curtis Cup Team in 1960. Mrs. Prunaret contributed the permanent trophy for the USGA’s Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship in 1987. She died in 1998. This year’s recipients are Kiara Kiero and Margaret Scales. Kiara is a freshman at University of New Hampshire who performed her golf service at The Ridge Club. Madeline is a senior at The College of the Holy Cross majoring in International Studies who performed her golf service at Worcester Country Club.

PRISCILLA D. RAMSEY SCHOLARSHIPThe Priscilla D. Ramsey Scholarship was established in 2005 through gifts of the Marie G. Dennett Foundation, with which Mrs. Ramsey was involved for many years. The late Mrs. Ramsey had been a member of the Essex County

Club and was a strong player who won the Essex Club Championship, competed in many WGAM events, was a runner-up in the WGAM Championship, and also played on the Tri-State team. Mrs. Ramsey, who lived in Greenwich, CT in later years, supported numerous Ouimet Fund endeavors. The Ramsey Scholarship has been established to help Ouimet Scholars in need. This year’s recipients are Danielle Caughey and Kelsey Cronin. Danielle is a senior at Northeastern University majoring in Nursing who performed her golf service at Hatherly Country Club. Kelsey is a junior at Suffolk University majoring in Art History who performed her golf service at The Ridge Club.

JOHN R. REILLY SCHOLARSHIPThe John R. Reilly Scholarship was created in 2011 by then Ouimet Fund President Richard M. Reilly and his family, in honor of his father. John Reilly, known throughout his life as “Jack,” was born in Boston in 1899.

While in his senior year at Jamaica Plain High School, he was hired to become an office boy for William Filene. In his early twenties he became an employee of the leading wool merchant company in Boston and, in 1928, started his own firm, Reilly Wool Co., which he ran until 1976. During this period, among other things, he was President of the Boston Wool Trade Association, and an occasional guest lecturer at Harvard Business School on managing risk while doing business in overseas markets. He was a long-time member of Hatherly and Brae Burn Country Clubs until his death in 1984. He was a staunch advocate of junior golf at both clubs, particularly at Brae Burn, where he organized and ran the program well into his 70s. Although not receiving any formal education past high school, Mr. Reilly was an avid reader and lifelong student, encouraging his children and grandchildren to do the same. In this spirit, his family has created this scholarship, with preference to be given, where possible, to students who are the first generation of their family to attend college. This year’s recipient is Tyler Fino-Theuer, a junior at University of Vermont majoring in Business Administration who performed his golf service at Winchester Country Club.

HAROLD WHITWORTH PIERCE SCHOLARSHIP Inner-City Award

Created through the largest gift in Fund history from the Harold Whitworth Pierce Charitable Trust in 2017, the Harold Whitworth Pierce Scholarship is

helping young people attend college, and will for many years to come. Mr. Pierce was a renowned figure in golf and investment. He had been President of The Country Club, The Massachusetts Golf Association, and the United States Golf Association. He was very friendly with Francis Ouimet and served with him on the USGA Executive Committee. Mr. Pierce died in 1958. This year’s recipients are Rodney Adams, Nash Bourn, Kyle Cloherty, Patrick Donnelly, Nicolas Goffredo, Jahvon Kelley, Jameela Olivo, Trevor Sasso, John Scialoia and John Vaughan. Rodney is a junior at Middlebury College who performed his golf service at William J Devine Golf Course at Franklin Park. Nash is a sophomore at Becker College majoring in Sports Management who performed his golf service at Wachusett Country Club. Kyle is a freshman at Syracuse University who performed his golf service at George Wright Golf Course. Patrick is a sophomore at Boston University majoring in Journalism who performed his golf service at Tedesco Country Club. Nicolas is a sophomore at Salve Regina University majoring in Accounting who performed his golf service at George Wright Golf Course. Jahvon is a freshman at Johnson and Wales University who performed his golf service at Green Hill Municipal Golf Course. Jameela is a senior at Fisher College majoring in Criminal Justice who performed her golf service at William J Devine Golf Course at Franklin Park. Trevor is a junior at University of Vermont majoring in Parks, Recreation and Tourism who performed his golf service at Worcester Country Club. FORDIE H. PITTS, JR. SCHOLARSHIPThe Fordie H. Pitts, Jr. Scholarship was created by his widow, Mary Lou Pitts, in 2011. Mr. Pitts, who died in 2009, was one of the most prolific amateur golfers in Massachusetts history. He competed in MGA events

for over 50 years, winning four Father & Son championships, six Father & Daughter titles, two Senior Amateurs, and two Senior Four Balls. He was a semifinalist five times in the MGA Amateur championship. He also qualified for 17 USGA events including the first U.S. Jr. Amateur and was low amateur in the 1984 U.S. Sr. Open. He was a member at Wollaston Golf Club and Scituate Country Club, winning the club championship at each many times. He was an owner of several courses, and organized many popular tournaments. Mr. Pitts was beloved in the golf community, and was regarded by many as a role model and mentor. The Fordie H. Pitts, Jr. Scholarship is for a Ouimet Scholar who performed his/her service at Wollaston, or a club on the South Shore or Cape Cod. This year’s recipient is Ryan McDougall, a senior at Babson College majoring in Finance who performed his golf service at Wollaston Golf Club.

HARRY AND MURIEL PLAYER SCHOLARSHIPInner-City Award

This was created by proceeds of the 2008 Ouimet Banquet honoring Gary Player along with a substantial additional gift from Mr. Player

toward this award which honors his late parents. Muriel Player died of cancer when Gary was eight and Harry Player spent most of his career in South African gold mines 12,000 feet underground. CAROLYN S. SAVAGE SCHOLARSHIPInner-City Award

The Carolyn Savage Scholarship was created in 2015. Mrs. Savage is a long-time Ouimet Society Lifetime member and a regular Ouimet Scholarship applicant interviewer. She has a great love of golf and is deeply

involved in charitable support. She and her late husband, Henry, served as the Ouimet Chairs at Wianno for many years and were honored with the Ouimet Chair of the Year Award in 2001. The Carolyn Savage Scholarship is for Ouimet Scholars who are females from the Greater Boston or Cape Cod areas. Mrs. Savage was one of the first women in Boston to create her own public relations agency, and did so after she had been denied a couple of positions because she was a female. Mrs. Savage is deeply committed to helping and encouraging young women. This year’s recipient is Anna Hurley, a senior at St Michaels College majoring in Pyschology who performed her golf service at The Ridge Club.

F. HENRY SAVAGE, JR. SCHOLARSHIPThe F. Henry Savage, Jr. Scholarship was created in 2006 by Mr. Savage’s widow, Carolyn Savage. Henry Savage was a long-time Par Club/Ouimet Society member who served for many years on the

Par Club/OS Executive Committee. He and Mrs. Savage also served as Ouimet Society Chairs at Wianno Club for many years, where they recruited many Ouimet Society members. They were honored as Ouimet Chairs of the Year in 2001. The Savages were also Ouimet Society Lifetime members. Mr. Savage was a highly respected interior decorator, and one of his last projects was his contribution of decorating the Ouimet Room at the William F. Connell Golf House in 2003. He died in 2004. The F. Henry Savage, Jr. Scholarship is for a Ouimet Scholar from Wianno Club. This year’s recipient is Aidan Hatton, a sophomore at Marquette University majoring in Business Administration.

SCANNELL FAMILY SCHOLARSHIPInner-City AwardEstablished by a Ouimet Alumnus

The Scannell Family Scholarship was established by Patrick and Ellen Scannell in 2014. The Scannell Family Scholarship is for an inner-city

female Ouimet Scholar. This year’s recipient is Erin Clancy, a senior at Roger Williams University majoring in Graphic Design who performed her golf service at Gannon Municipal Golf Course.

JOHN AND LILLIAN SIMOURIAN SCHOLARSHIP The John and Lillian Simourian Scholarship was established in 2017 by John and Candace Simourian to honor John’s grandfather and

grandmother who were longtime members of Woodland Golf Club and loved the game of golf and walking with a caddie. They imparted their love of the greatest game to their children and grandchildren (some of whom became club and amateur champions). The John and Lillian Simourian Scholarship is for a Ouimet Scholar who is a student athlete, and who has performed his or her service to golf at Woodland Golf Club, Woods Hole Golf Club or a public golf course in the Boston area. The recipient must also maintain a fine academic record while participating in athletics at a varsity level. This year’s recipient is John Knight, Jr., a senior at Tufts University majoring in Sociology who performed his golf service at William J Devine Golf Course at Franklin Park.

RICHARD A. SPILLANE, SR. SCHOLARSHIPEstablished by a Ouimet Alumnus

The Spillane Scholarship was established in 2005 by members of the Spillane family. Mr. Spillane spent his career working

with the MBTA, and also held a second job to help put his four children through school. He had a lifelong love of golf that started when he caddied at Dedham Country and Polo Club during the Depression. Mr. Spillane died in 2001. The Spillane Scholarship was established to help Ouimet Scholars of great financial need. This year’s recipient is Kelly Hanrahan, a junior at Northeastern University majoring in Legal Professions who performed her golf service at Haverhill Country Club.

REILLY FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP The Reilly Family Scholarship was created in 2010 through gifts to Harvard University and is for a Ouimet Scholar attending Harvard. It was established by former Ouimet Fund President Richard M. Reilly, a longtime member of the Ouimet Fund

Development Committee. Mr. Reilly is a 1959 graduate of Harvard and Harvard Law School in 1962. Two of Mr. Reilly’s four children – Chad (1989) and Beth (1991) are also Harvard graduates. There is no recipient this year.

THE RENAISSANCE GOLF CLUB SCHOLARSHIPEstablished by a Ouimet Alumnus

This award was established in 2001 and is for a Ouimet Scholar who worked at the Renaissance Golf Club in Haverhill, or a nearby club. This

year’s recipient is James Nussbaum, a senior at Coastal Carolina University majoring in Professional Golf Management who performed his golf service at Winchester Country Club.

CHRISTOPHER “BOO” RICH SCHOLARSHIPThis award was established in 1999 and is named after a young man who deeply loved golf and showed great promise in the sport before he

died at age 12 in 1997. The Christopher Rich Foundation funds it. The Christopher Rich Scholarship is for a Ouimet Scholar from the North Shore area. This year’s recipient is Collin MacDonald, a junior at McDaniel College majoring in Business Administration who performed his golf service at Tedesco Country Club.

THE RIORDAN FAMILY SCHOLARSHIPNew in 2019Established in Honor of a Ouimet Alumnus

The Riordan Family Scholarship was created in 2019 in honor of Tom Riordan, a Ouimet Alumnus and Board member who was honored

at the 2019 Ouimet Banquet with the Richard F. Connolly, Jr. Distinguished Service Award for his many contributions to The Fund. Mr. Riordan was a Board member for 18 years, serving on the Banquet Committee the entire time. He sold a great number of sponsorships and tables, facilitated the creation of two endowed scholarships, donated or secured tremendous pro bono items, and more. When news that he was being honored at the 2019 Banquet was announced, many additional sponsorships, tables and hundreds of extra tickets were sold to friends, family and colleagues who wanted to support Mr. Riordan. In appreciation for all he’s done, a permanently endowed award was created in Mr. Riordan’s honor from the additional proceeds of that 2019 Banquet, and the Riordan Scholarship continues to grow through the extensive contributions of his many friends and family. Sadly, Mr. Riordan passed away later in 2019, but was immensely proud of this scholarship and the legacy he had left behind within the Ouimet Fund. Additionally, there was an event held at Sacconnesset Golf Club in the summer of 2019 honoring the late Mark Ritchey Marinelli, a Ouimet Alumnus and longtime Sacconnesset caddie who died in 2018. The proceeds of this event were added to the Riordan Family Scholarship. The Riordan Family Scholarship is for a Scholar from Sacconnesset Golf Club. The inaugural recipient is Dawson Prophett, a senior at UMass Lowell majoring in Plastics Engineering.

ROCHE FAMILY SCHOLARSHIPInner-City Award

This award was established in 2003 by gifts from the late Bud and Pat Roche, and added to in 2004 by proceeds of the Spirit of Golf event at

Wellesley Country Club in which the Roche family was honored for their many charitable and community involvements. The Roche Family Scholarship is for an inner-city Ouimet Scholar. This year’s recipient is Kevin Mannion, a freshman at St Michaels College who performed his golf service at William J Devine Golf Course at Franklin Park.

The award was established in 1999. Barbara and John Stansky lived in Worcester, MA, and raised five sons, including three Ouimet Scholars. Mr. Stansky was a serviceman

with Commonwealth Gas, and Mrs. Stansky was a homemaker. The Stansky Scholarship was created in their honor and is for Ouimet Scholars from Worcester Country Club. This year’s recipients are Hannah Mikkila and Seamus White. Hannah is a senior at Worcester Polytechnic Institute majoring in Mechanical Engineering. Seamus is a junior at Bryant University majoring in Business Administration.

TOM STEMBERG SCHOLARSHIP Established in 2017, the Tom Stemberg Scholarship was created in memory of the late founder of Staples through a memorial golf event held at The Kittansett Club. Mr. Stemberg was one of the great leaders

of American business, loved the game of golf and The Kittansett Club, was very philanthropic, and also loved Harvard, Harvard Athletics and, of course, his family all very deeply. The Stemberg Scholarship will help a qualified Ouimet Scholar attend college who is a student at Harvard or Yale, or has worked at the Kittansett Club. This year’s recipient is Maxxon Wolski, a junior at Berklee College of Music majoring in Music Education who performed his golf service at The Kittansett Club.

DICK STIMETS SCHOLARSHIPThe Dick Stimets Scholarship was created by the membership of the Oyster Harbors Club in 2003 in honor of Mr. Stimets, who

died in 2002. He won over 20 club championships at that club. Mr. Stimets was a Ouimet Director from 1988 until his death and was President from 1994-96. His superb golf record included club championships in RI, OH, TX and NJ, several Bermuda Invitational titles, victories in the Seagulls and Cape Cod Amateur Championships, and the 1993 Massachusetts Mid-Amateur title at age 62. Mr. Stimets started in golf as a teenager at the old Oyster Harbors Caddie Camp. Mr. Stimets credited much of his love of golf and inspiration to a relationship he had with Francis Ouimet that began when he caddied for him at Oyster Harbors. This year’s recipient is John Greer, a freshman at Bentley University who performed his golf service at Oyster Harbors.

RICK STIMETS SCHOLARSHIPThis scholarship was created in Richard “Rick” Stimets, Jr.’s memory in 2013 by many of his friends after his sudden death earlier in the year. Rick was a Ouimet Society Lifetime Member, long-time Ouimet

Chair at Oyster Harbors and son of the late Dick Stimets who was Ouimet President from 1994-1996. Rick was a tremendous Ouimet supporter who was in charge of the fundraising campaign for the Golf Marathon at Oyster Harbors during a five year stretch when they were the leading Marathon club. He was known for his enthusiasm, and great love of the game, his friends and family and the number five. The Rick Stimets Scholarship is for a Ouimet Scholar at Oyster Harbors. This year’s recipient is Curtis Balthazard, a sophomore at University of Rhode Island majoring in Finance.

THOMAS W. STRANGE SCHOLARSHIPThe Strange Award was funded by proceeds of the 2000 Ouimet Fund Annual Banquet honoring Curtis Strange and is named after Curtis’s

father, who died in 1969 at age 38. Thomas W. Strange was the golf professional at Bow Creek Country Club in Virginia Beach, Virginia. He was a superb player who qualified for the U.S. Open six times and has been inducted into several regional halls of fame. This year’s recipient is Joey Colesano, a sophomore at Coastal Carolina University majoring in Professional Golf Management who performed his golf service at Wianno Club.

RICHARD TARLOW AWARDThe Tarlow Award was established in 1988 and funded by a contribution from Titleist and FootJoy and is named after the late Chairman Emeritus of FootJoy. It is restricted to a resident of

Southeastern Massachusetts who has demonstrated outstanding character and academic achievement. This year’s recipient is John Ciampa, a senior at Providence College majoring in Accounting who performed his golf service at Dedham Country and Polo Club.

HARRISON G. TAYLOR, JR. WORCESTER COUNTRY CLUB SCHOLARSHIP

This award was established in 2006 by a group of Worcester Country Club members who are Ouimet Society Lifetime Members and renamed in 2011 in honor of Harrison G. Taylor, Jr. Mr. Taylor, an original Ouimet

Society Lifetime Member, was a 55-year member of Worcester Country Club, a President and life member of the club, and low handicapper who shot his age numerous times when in his 80s. He spent 30 years as a course rater for the MGA and was on the MGA Executive Committee for nine years. He was also a member of the New England Senior Golfers’ Association, the Hickory Shafts, and a frequent participant in Ouimet Society events. He died in 2010. This year’s recipients are Kelly Krull and Matthew Mattero. Kelly is a sophomore at Le Moyne College majoring in Political Science. Matthew is a junior at St Anselm College majoring in Criminal Justice.

GUY TEDESCO SCHOLARSHIPThis scholarship program joined the Ouimet Fund in 1992. Honoring the late Director of Golf at The Club at New Seabury, the Guy Tedesco Scholarship is for Cape Cod students. Since 1982 it has awarded over $345,000. This year’s

recipients are Matthew Marie and Corinne Monger. Matthew is a senior at Fordham University majoring in Finance who performed his golf service at New Seabury Country Club. Corinne is a sophomore at University of Alabama majoring in Education who performed her golf service at Eastward Ho!.

STAN THIRSK SCHOLARSHIPThis scholarship was created by the proceeds of the 2009 Annual Banquet honoring Tom Watson, who asked that an award be named after Stan Thirsk, his lifelong pro and mentor. Thirsk, who died in

2015, was a member of the PGA and Kansas Golf Halls of Fame who spent 31 years as the Head Professional at the Kansas City Country Club, where Tom Watson learned the game. In 1980, the PGA of America selected Mr. Thirsk the Golf Professional of the Year. He started teaching Tom Watson when Watson was just 11 years old, and played frequent weekend matches with Tom and his father Ray Watson, a former U.S. Amateur quarterfinalist, and Bob Willits, another fine player. Mr. Thirsk was a highly accomplished player. He played on the PGA TOUR for several years and competed in 18 major championships – 8 USGA Opens and 10 PGA Championships. In 1979, he was the National PGA Match Play Champion and in 1989, won the Wilson PGA Senior Pro Championship. His fine playing resume also includes an 8th place finish at the 1981 USGA Senior Open. This year’s recipient is Zachary Girouard, a senior at Methodist University majoring in Professional Golf Management who performed his golf service at Brae Burn Country Club.

TUDOR INVESTMENTS SCHOLARSHIPThis award was established in 2007. This year’s recipient is Jay Gallagher, a sophomore at Wilkes University majoring in Management, Business Administration and Accounting who performed his golf service at Meadow Brook Golf Club.

WILLIAM VAN FAASEN SCHOLARSHIPInner-City Award

The William Van Faasen Scholarship was created by proceeds of the 2015 Spirit of Golf Event along with other special gifts. A native of metro Detroit, Van Faasen has been in Greater Boston for over 30 years and has been extremely

community-minded. He was the first chairperson of Black and White on Green, the precursor to the City of Boston’s Summer Golf Recreation Program, a pathway to a Ouimet Scholarship. Professionally, he served as Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts’ President and CEO for over a decade. A former member of the Mass Golf’s Executive Committee, Van Faasen was a driving force behind the launch of The First Tee Program in the Commonwealth. A former Ouimet Director and accomplished player in his own right, he is a member at Essex County Club and Old Sandwich Golf Club and Florida clubs Loxahatchee and Medalist. He served as General Chairman of the 2010 Curtis Cup played at Essex. This year’s recipients are Matthew Brown and Rachel Jordan. Matthew is a freshman at University of District of Columbia majoring in Engineering who performed his golf service at William J Devine Golf Course at Franklin Park. Rachel is a junior at UMass Lowell majoring in Economics who performed her golf service at Gannon Municipal Golf Course.

GEORGE N. VANDERBILT & RAYMOND F. HAMEL, SR. SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship was established in 2018 to honor the memory of George Newell Vanderbilt and Raymond Francis Hamel, Sr. As young boys, both began their careers as caddies, George at Algonquin Golf Club in Webster

Grove, MO, and Ray at The Country Club and Belmont Country Club. Both loved the game of golf and recognized the life lessons of industry, perseverance and patience so necessary to being successful caddies, business executives, and fathers. George and Ray served their country as aviators, George in the United States Navy and

Ray in the United States Army Air Corps. This year’s recipient is Jared Krueger, a senior at Bryant University majoring in Data Science who performed his golf service at Wellesley Country Club.

WANLESS FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP The Wanless Family Scholarship was created in 2017 by Marie Louise and Brian Wanless in honor of the late John B. Kenerson, Mrs. Wanless’ father. Mr. Kenerson introduced his family to the game of golf at

Wellesley Country Club. It was the beginning of a great journey in the game that included years of wonderful competition, many friendships and happy times. Mr. Kenerson was President of Wellesley Country Club when it expanded from 9 to 18 holes and he was instrumental in establishing the Wellesley Igoe Trust, which honored the late Jack Igoe, Wellesley Country Club pro. The Trust was to help the Igoe family; the Igoe Tournament has also helped many charities, including the Ouimet Fund. The Wanless Family Scholarship is for a Ouimet Scholar from Wellesley Country Club, or a Ouimet Scholar who is active on a golf team or a Scholar from the Ouimet Fund’s general pool. This year’s recipient is Charlotte Vahey, a freshman at Providence College who performed her golf service at Wellesley Country Club.

AMOS E. WASGATT III SCHOLARSHIP AT TATNUCK COUNTRY CLUB

The Amos E. Wasgatt III Scholarship at Tatnuck Country Club was established in 2006 by a group of Tatnuck members who are Ouimet Society Lifetime Members. It honors the memory of Mr. Wasgatt,

who died in 2005. He was a Worcester insurance executive and longtime Tatnuck member who was a Ouimet Society Lifetime Member. He had a great love of the game, the Ouimet Fund, and the young people who served the game. The Wasgatt Scholarship was announced in a special ceremony at Tatnuck in 2006. The Scholarship is for a Ouimet Scholar from Tatnuck. This year’s recipient is Anthony White, a junior at University of Rhode Island majoring in Mechanical Engineering.

JOHN WATT SCHOLARSHIPThis award was created in 2010 through proceeds of the Onstott Invitational Tournament at Brae Burn Country Club and other special donations. It is named after John Watt. Mr. Watt was an avid golfer for most of his

adult life. He enjoyed friendly games as well as competitive play on the course. He and his wife, Polly, played the game all over the world. They were longtime members of Woods Hole Golf Club, Milton Hoosic Club, Willoughby in Stuart, FL and played many rounds at Sea Island, GA. He was a regular contributor to the Ouimet Fund. This year’s recipient is William Macaluso, a junior at Bentley University majoring in Finance who performed his golf service at Woods Hole Golf Club.

SETH WAUGH SCHOLARSHIPSeth Waugh created this scholarship in 2015. He was the driving force in the creation and success of the Deutsche Bank Championship, a PGA Tour event from 2003-2016 at TPC Boston during Labor Day weekend.

Mr. Waugh was Deutsche Bank CEO for the Americas from 2001-2013, and is now CEO of the PGA of America. A passionate golfer himself, Waugh was an enthusiastic regular in the pre-tournament Pro-Am event, annually using the services of a Ouimet Scholar to caddie for him. He made a special introduction of honoree Brad Faxon at the 2015 Ouimet Banquet. A Massachusetts native, Mr. Waugh is a graduate of Amherst College. The Seth Waugh Scholarship is for a Ouimet Scholar from Boston Golf Club, the TPC of Boston, a Ouimet Scholar who played two or more sports in high school, or a Ouimet Scholar from the North Shore of Boston, especially the Ayer or Groton area. This year’s recipient is Matthew Kelley, a sophomore at Christopher Newport University majoring in Business who performed his golf service at TPC Boston.

JOHN A. WEBSTER, JR. SCHOLARSHIPThe John A. Webster, Jr. Scholarship was created in 2015 by his son, Scott Webster and his family, in honor of his late father. Mr. Webster was born in Boston and attended Boston University. He joined

his father’s company, J.A. Webster, a distributor of veterinary products in New England, working his way up in the company and eventually becoming President in 1978. Mr. Webster was an avid golfer and a longtime member of Nashawtuc Country Club and the Country Club of New Bedford, in addition to the Bay Club of Mattapoisett, and the John’s Island Club. He also enjoyed boating and was an active member of the New Bedford Yacht Club. He was an avid traveler and visited many continents throughout the world with his wife and family. This year’s recipient is Shane Bowes, a junior at Salve Regina University majoring in Law Enforcement who performed his golf service at Worcester Country Club.

WETZEL FAMILY SCHOLARSHIPInner-City Award

The Wetzel Family Scholarship was created by Todd Wetzel in 2015. Mr. Wetzel is a Ouimet Director and former President of the Francis Ouimet

Society. He is a Ouimet Society Lifetime Member who has recruited many other Lifetime Members. He is a Past President and Ouimet Chair of Tatnuck Country Club and currently a member of Worcester County Club where he also served as Ouimet Chair. Mr. Wetzel was honored by the Ouimet Fund as Ouimet Chair of the Year in 2003. He has a great interest in helping youth and this award is for a Ouimet Scholar from Worcester Country Club, Tatnuck Country Club, Green Hill Golf Course or elsewhere in the Greater Worcester area. This year’s recipient is David Dubuque, a junior at UMass Amherst majoring in Management who performed his golf service at Tatnuck Country Club.

WGAM/DOLLY SULLIVAN SCHOLARSHIPThe Francis Ouimet Scholarship Fund, the Women’s Golf Association of Massachusetts, the WGAM Scholarship Fund, Inc., and the Dolly Sullivan Tournament Founding Committee established this award in 1999. It is named

after Dolly Sullivan, who was an outstanding player and physical education instructor at Milton Academy. She was also the niece of Francis Ouimet. Ms. Sullivan died in 1981 and the Dolly Sullivan Tournament was established that year and has been one of the WGAM and Mass Golf’s most popular events. The WGAM/Dolly Sullivan Scholarship is for a female Ouimet Scholar who may have also competed in competed in WGAM and Mass Golf events. This year’s recipients are Hannah Ghelfi and Emily Hunt. Hannah is a senior at University of Michigan majoring in Business Administration who performed her golf service at Pocasset Golf Club. Emily is a freshman at Merrimack College who performed her golf service at The Ridge Club.

HERBERT WARREN WIND SCHOLARSHIPThe Herbert Warren Wind Scholarship was established in memory of the legendary golf writer and member of the World Golf Hall of Fame. Mr. Wind was a native of Brockton, Massachusetts who died in

2005. He was the author of 14 golf books, was the original golf editor of “Sports Illustrated,” and wrote acclaimed essays for many years in “The New Yorker.” The Herbert Warren Wind Scholarship is for a Ouimet Scholar studying Communications, Journalism, Creative Writing, English or similar academic discipline, or for a native of Brockton, Massachusetts or surrounding town. This year’s recipient is Riley Earle, a sophomore at Champlain College majoring in English who performed her golf service at The Ridge Club.

WOODLAND GOLF CLUB SCHOLARSHIPWoodland Golf Club is proud of its great relationship with Francis Ouimet and the Ouimet Fund and created this scholarship with a special donation program during

the Centennial in 2013. Mr. Ouimet was a 57-year member of Woodland, and the club has hosted the Ouimet Memorial Tournament since its inception in 1968. The award is for a Ouimet Scholar from Woodland. This year’s recipient is Morgan Griffin, a junior at Middlebury College majoring in Biology who performed her golf service at Woodland Golf Club.

TIGER WOODS FOUNDATION AWARDInner-City Award

This award was established in 2004 and was funded in part by proceeds of the Deutsche Bank Championship, of which the Tiger Woods Foundation was the principal beneficiary. The Tiger Woods Foundation Award

is for an inner-city Scholar. This year’s recipient is Mcphillips Akukwe, a sophomore at Boston College majoring in Nursing who performed his golf service at George Wright Golf Course.

WOOLLARD FAMILY SCHOLARSHIPNew in 2019

Deidre Woollard, Winchester Woollard and Howard Woollard joined together in 2019 to establish this permanent scholarship. The two

brothers, and their niece, have honored their family name to annually help a student from Stockbridge School of Agriculture at UMass – Amherst or for a junior or senior studying something golf industry related. Golf and/or Stockbridge have their fingerprints on several in the Woollard family and the trio was proud to formally finalize this scholarship’s creation at a family wedding celebration. The inaugural recipient is Riley Demanche, a sophomore at Bentley University majoring in Business who performed his golf service at The Ridge Club.

JERRY YORK SCHOLARSHIPThe Jerry York Scholarship was created from the proceeds of the 2007 Spirit of Golf event which honored Mr. York, the long-time hockey coach at Boston College. Jerry York is one of the most successful, respected and well-

liked coaches in Boston sports history. He has been a head coach for 47 years at three different colleges, and has the winningest record in college hockey. He has taken BC to the “Frozen Four” many times, and won the National Championship in 2001, 2008, 2010 and 2012. He is a BC graduate and was an All-American at The Heights in 1966-67. This year’s recipient is Brandon Smith, a freshman at Boston College who performed his golf service at Bass Rocks Golf Club.

Endowed Scholarship Growth

The Ouimet Fund continues to seek to greatly expand its endowed scholarships. An effort is being made at growing The Fund’s inner-city scholarship program in addition to broadening the overall endowed scholarships.
