We are Back! This Thursday, April 18th, we will be meeting at our old location. Yes, we will be meeting at the Trinity Lutheran Church Annex on the corner of 10th Street and Balboa Ave. 6 pm! The Annex was being used as a shelter and a food bank for those in need after Hurricane Michael. We are glad we are back! We are wanting stories If you and your friends or family are getting out in nature, whether running, hiking, exploring, etc., send me a couple photos or a short story. We love to share these experiences with our club. I know many of you go to races or visit great places, let us see what you are doing. It just may add things to our bucket list. Newbie Running Corner! We have had a very dedicated “Newbie” runner joining our group on Tuesday and Thursdays. We start off with a 5 minute walk, 1 minute jog/1minute walk intervals. We have progressed to some 2 minute runs/1 minute walks. Yes, it does work. Breathing is nice and steady and not labored. The run times/walks will increase over the next few weeks as the comfort level progresses. Congratulations to Maureen for raising her fitness bar! We are getting there!

It is time to renew your 2019 club membership. This year has started off a little crazy with trying to recover from Hurricane Michael, not having a “normal” meeting place, etc. For you that have renewed your membership, Thank You! For those that have not yet renewed, please fill out the enclosed form and enclose your $20 membership fee. We hope to have some additional perks for being a member. Those will be discussed at this upcoming meeting. We hope to get some club T-shirts or something that will distinguish you at a race or while training! Profiles in time… Meet your fellow members

What was you childhood ambition? I had no ambition as a child. Lol. Now I’m full of them. I want to experience anything and everything new to me at least once. I want to see new places and do new things. My bucket list grows faster than I can check stuff off.

What is your current occupation? Non-profit - Engaging people in their community in ways meaningful and rewarding to them.

If money were no object, what profession would you choose? I’m happy in my profession.

Favorite running memory: Told my friend where I’d be running, since it was a long and secluded route. At about mile 6 she drove by holding a Carmel frappe (my favorite guilty pleasure then) out the window of her Jeep laughing and checking on me. Once I finished my 11 mile run that day I returned to my car to find she put a gift card on my window for me to reward myself with my own Carmel frappe

Indulgence: I try really hard not to, but when I do I take it to the extreme. Three pieces of cake or a half gallon of ice cream. In the rare occasion I go there I take full advantage.

Non-running hobbies: Cross training, hiking, biking, kyhaking and all things outdoors. Most of all I like doing things with company - friends or family.

Favorite Reads: Anything motivational

Best place to run near Panama City: Anywhere with friends

What is your perfect day? A day that I have nothing to do and can just be lazy What is your biggest challenge? Myself.... I can be a perfectionist, so letting things go.

Angie Klopf

Couch to 5K Program We are in the developmental stages of a “Couch to 5K” program for new members of the Panhandle Runner’s Club. We have a lot of people out in our community that are thirsty for a program that will let them develop a fitness habit. We are looking at several of these programs and will meld a couple together to meet the needs of our community. The hope is to have the program culminate at a local 5K. This would be an achievable goal and provide of a graduation prize. If you are interested in helping develop the PR&T Couch to 5K program, please contact Joe or Angie. Not everyone is a runner! We hope this is an all inclusive plan for those that can only walk also. Our goal is providing and avenue for improve health and quality of life. Keep watching!

Where are you? It’s time to focus!

Fund Raising/Race Organizing

The Panhandle Runners & Triathletes Club will lease race equipment, coolers, tables, finish line clock and timers to individuals wishing put on a fund raiser/run/walk. The equipment rents for $150 with a refundable $200 security deposit. There is a lease agreement that can be downloaded off the club’s website: www.panhandlerunners.com . The lease will itemize what equipment is needed, date of pick up and the date of return. The person leasing the equipment will need to get with Andy Weckherlin, Equipment Manager, 2 weeks prior to the event date to determine when pick up will happen and delivery is expected. The equipment fee does not include people to help put on the event. Club members in good standing (members for 6 months) or that have assisted with races will be able to lease the equipment for $75 with the same $200 refundable security deposit.

If there are any questions concerning the equipment or putting on an event, you may contact one of the officers for additional information. __________________________________________________________________

Request to Local Race Directors: We are starting to have many races in the area. I have a personal request…Please check the race schedule and see if any races are scheduled for Panama City or Panama City Beach. 2-3 races in a small town on the same day gives runners options but do nothing to help you reach your fund raising goals. It actually hurts some of the races. These things still will happen but please just check and if possible, find a date that will help optimize your fundraising goals! When renting the equipment, you must contact the equipment manager to arrange the pickup and delivery 2 weeks prior to your date. It is imperative that those renting the equipment must have a vehicle with a 2” ball, lights and insurance! Thanks!
