Dear Parent/Guardian, Welcome to the 2020- 2021 student government selection process, and congratulations on having a student who is interested in public service and leadership! While academic study should be our student’s primary reason to be at Centennial High School, there is still much to be learned by taking advantage of the many opportunities outside of the classroom. Through participation in activities such as membership in a student organizations, or recreational sports, students gain valuable skills that will complement their academic education and make them a well-rounded individual. Involvement is the best way for students to associate themselves with Centennial and to realize that they are a valuable part of the school community. Participation in student leadership teaches students real world skills and gives them an advantage on college and career applications. A recent national survey found that students who participate in collaborative learning and educational activities, outside of the classroom, are more satisfied with their education and are more likely to remain in high school and become more successful in college. Please read all the information provided concerning the selection process of ASB and Class officers. There are important dates, guidelines, and requirements in this packet. Please be sure to go over each of them with your child. Student government requires a lot of time and effort both in and out of school. Many of the events and activities that ASB members are involved in are held on nights, weekends, before and after school. There will also be some summer activities and training days in June, July and August which are mandatory- all members need to attend. Your support is highly recommended and also appreciated throughout the year. I look forward to working with you and your student this year in ASB and creating a lifetime of memories. If you have any questions, please feel free to email me at [email protected] . Thank you, Ms. Katrina Johangiry Centennial High School Assistant Principal of Activities I understand the commitments of ASB membership and holding office and have read the pages of this packet.
