Scholarships Can Open Doors and Change LivesKellogg Community College offers numerous scholarships to students who dream of a college education and need money to make it happen. Unlike loans, they do not have to be paid back. Generous gifts from community groups, businesses, alumni, and a host of private individuals to the KCC Foundation assist students in paying for their educational expenses. For many students, scholarships can make a profound difference in the success of their college program, their career, their future, and our community.

Prior to applying for scholarships, review the scholarship information and requirements in this booklet.

You MUST have an Admissions Application on file with the KCC Admissions Office prior to completing the scholarship application. You are required to provide your student ID number on the application. Apply to KCC online at www.kellogg.edu/future-students.

While not required for a scholarship, you are strongly encouraged to complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA application is available online at www.fafsa.gov. Many scholarships are specifically need-based.

What else to know:• Scholarship applications are screened for completeness and eligibility. Application information is then made available to the

Scholarship Review Committees for selections to be made. Both recipients and non-recipients are notified.• Scholarships are awarded to students who meet the criteria established by the scholarship donors. The scholarships provide

varying amounts of financial support.• If you are awarded a scholarship based on a specific course of study, your registered courses and/or academic major may be

verified before release of scholarship funds.• The minimum qualifying Grade Point Average (GPA) varies so refer to the application guidelines in this booklet.• Scholarships are paid one-half per semester. GPA and enrollment requirements will be verified before spring payments are

issued. Summer payments may be made only with permission from the KCC Foundation. Failure to continue to meet scholarship eligibility requirements may result in forfeiture of the applicable scholarship.

• You must be enrolled in the specified enrollment level required for the scholarship award in order to be eligible to receive the award. If you are selected as the first-choice recipient for a scholarship award but are not enrolled in the required number of units to qualify, your scholarship award may be re-awarded to another eligible candidate. Enrollment level will be verified shortly after award selections have been made.

• Incomplete applications will not be considered for scholarships.• Meeting the application requirements and scholarship criteria does not guarantee that you will receive a scholarship.• When writing the essay, include responses to the points listed in the application; be creative, describe what makes you

unique, use examples to individualize your essay and demonstrate your points, review your essay to find grammar and punctuation mistakes, and have someone else proofread it before submitting.

• Make sure to include your résumé, two current letters of recommendation, and unofficial transcripts.• Résumés should include employment (if applicable), education, school and community service, volunteer experiences,

honors, and awards. For résumé writing assistance, contact KCC Career & Employment Services at (269) 565-2637.• If you responded "Yes" to the question pertaining to having a diagnosis of ADHD, ADD or other learning disability, you

may be eligible for disability accommodations. Contact KCC Support Services at 269.965.4150.

We are happy to assist you with any questions you may have concerning scholarships and applications. Please contact the KCC Foundation at (269) 965-4161 or by email at [email protected].
