1 Brief description International ALUMINIUM Journal deals with all facets of aluminium’s value
chain from the production of the metal via its processing through to recycling. The editorial focus is on smelting and semis production including the suppliers of plant, equipment and technology. Consideration is given to economic, tech-nical and environmental/ecological topics as well as other aspects that affect the metal and its product applications in the different target markets . Aluminium relevant research articles from companies and institutes are also published. The publication is thus of particular interest to smelters and remelters, semis producers, foundries, fabricators and converters, metal traders, semis stock-holders and research facilities. International ALUMINIUM Journal is distributed worldwide.

Trimet Aluminium, Essen, startet den Probebetrieb für die „Virtuelle Batterie“. Jetzt kann die Energiezufuhr bei der Aluminiumproduktion des Essener Werks erstmals flexibel gesteuert werden.
Hierdurch entsteht ein riesiger Stromspeicher, der es erleichtert, den
unstetig erzeugten Strom aus Erneuerbaren Energien ins Stromnetz zu integrieren. Für
den Umbau wurden insgesamt rund 36 Millionen Euro inves-tiert.
„Wir haben den Elektro-lyseprozess zur Produktion von Aluminium neu erfunden. Erstmals können wir die Ener-giezufuhr im laufenden Betrieb signifikant variieren. So reagie-ren wir auf Veränderungen im Stromangebot zum Vorteil der Versorgung der Haushalte in Essen“, sagt Philipp Schlüter, Vorsitzender des Vorstands von Trimet. „Als Aluminiumherstel-

Mit der Umstellung von insgesamt 120 Öfen des Esse-ner Werks können dort für bis zu 48 Stunden mal 25 Prozent mehr oder 25 Prozent weniger Strom abgenommen werden, ohne dass die Aluminiumpro-duktion unterbrochen wird. Bei Bedarf kann auch bis zu einer Stunde der Energiebe-darf auf 0 gesenkt werden. So können zum Nutzen der Energiewende bis zu 2.000 Megawattstunden Strom gespeichert werden. Somit hat die „Virtuelle Batterie“ die Kapazität eines mittelgroßen Pumpspeichers.
Seit seiner Erfindung im Jahr 1886 basiert der Prozess zur Aluminiumherstellung auf einer konstanten Ener-giezufuhr. Mit der „Virtuellen Batterie“ überwindet Trimet erstmals dieses Dogma und flexibilisiert den energiein-tensiven Elektrolyseprozess.

Einer aktuellen Studie von Markets and Markets zufolge soll der weltweite Markt für künstliche Intelligenz bis 2025 ein Volumen von 190,6 Mrd. USD (167,7 Mrd. EUR) erreichen. 2018 lag der Wert noch bei 21,5 Mrd. USD. Das entspricht einer jährlichen Wachs-tumsrate von 36,6 %. Mai in Guangzhou ihre Tore geöffnet hatte, brach damit wieder einmal Rekorde. So stieg die Zahl der Besucher gegenüber der Chinaplas- Ausgabe 2017 in Guangzhou um 5,2 %. Der Veranstalter Adsale sieht die chinesische Kunststoffmesse damit bereits auf Augenhöhe mit der K-Messe in Düsseldorf. Zwar kamen zur letzten K-Messe 2016 rund 230.000 Besucher, allerdings findet diese Weltleitmesse für die Kunststoffindustrie nur alle drei Jahre statt, die Chinaplas dagegen im jährlichen Wechsel entweder in Guangzhou oder in Schanghai. Und hinsichtlich Ausstellerzahl und -f läche übertrifft Chinas Kunststoffmesse bereits das Gegen stück in Düsseldorf.Darüber hinaus verbraucht das Land mit rund 100 Mio. t fast 30 % aller weltweit erzeugten Kunst-stoffe, Tendenz steigend. In der Folge bauen Erzeuger und Maschi-nenbauer in China stetig ihre Produktionskapazitäten aus, denn das Land kann seinen Bedarf schon lange nicht mehr über Im-porte decken. Zudem drückt der Handelsstreit mit den USA. Chi-nas Wirtschaftspolitik setzt daher auf Innovationen und eine Ankur-
belung der Binnennachfrage. Gleichzeitig öffnet sich das Land weiter, um ausländische Investi-tionen zu fördern.
Industrie 4.0 in der Praxis
Im Fokus der diesjährigen China-plas waren die Trendthemen Digi-talisierung, E-Mobilität, der Auf-bau eines 5G-Telekomnetzes und Recycling. So erfreute sich die Veranstaltung „Industrie 4.0 – Fabrik der Zukunft“, die vom VDMA mitveranstaltet wurde, zahlreicher Gäste. Diskutiert wur-den hier Szenarien in Bezug auf Produktion, Geschäftsbetrieb und Lieferkettenmanagement, die mit-tels künstlicher Intelligenz, 5G-
Funknetzen und Big Data gesteu-ert werden. Doch es ging auch in die Praxis: „Wir haben in den letzten drei Jahren die Industrie- 4.0-Konferenz erfolgreich durch-geführt“, sagte Ada Leung, General Manager bei Adsale. „Dieses Jahr haben wird den Konferenzraum verlassen und die Umsetzung im realen Umfeld auf dem Messe-gelände demonstriert.“
China setzt auf Kreislaufwirtschaft
Neben dem ganzen Hightech steht auch in China ein Paradigmen-wechsel hin zur Kreislaufwirt-schaft an. Nach dem Importverbot für Kunststoffe aus dem Hausmüll Ende 2017 gehen Chinas Verbote
von Kunststoffabfällen weiter. Ende 2018 wurde auch die Einfuhr von Kunststoffabfällen aus der Industrie vollständig verboten. Das traditionelle Muster „Roh-stoffverbrauch – Produktion – Verwendung – Entsorgung“ wird schrittweise aufgegeben und mit dem Recycling ergänzt. Kreislauf-wirtschaft und Kunststoffrecyc-ling waren auf der Chinaplas die heißen Themen. Der Veranstalter Adsale veranstaltete am 20. Mai (einen Tag vor der Eröffnung der Messe) gemeinsam mit CPRJ – China Plastics and Rubber Journal die „Plastics Recycling & Circular Economy Conference and Show-case“. Auf der Konferenz befassten sich Branchenexperten mit Theo-rien und der Umsetzung der Kreis-laufwirtschaft. Und auf der dies-jährigen Chinaplas wurde zum ersten Mal eine „Recycled Plastics Zone“ eingerichtet, in der zu 100 % rezyklierte Kunststoffe (rPET, LDPE, PP bis hin zu Hochleis-tungsrecyclingkunststoffen) aus-gestellt wurden. Die Zone demons-trierte auch geschlossene Liefer-ketten, von der Sortierung, Zer-kleinerung, Reinigung und Trock-nung bis hin zu intelligenten Granuliersystemen.Die nächste Chinaplas findet vom 21. bis 24. April 2020 in Schanghai statt. MG
