About the EaglesBoston College went 8-8-2, and 1-8-1 in the ACC, last year in head coach Jason Lowe’s first season at the helm. The Eagles will be led by the trio of Jenna Bike, Jillian Jennings and Mia Karras. Karras played in all 18 contests for the Eagles in 2019, a career-high, while making 16 starts and logging the third-most minutes among field players with 1,434. Jennings enters her senior season having appeared in all 58 games that BC has played over the last three years. Home OpenerLouisville is 13-6-2 in home openers under head coach Karen Ferguson-Dayes. They have won their last seven home openers, with their last loss a 5-4 overtime defeat to No. 17 Illinois on Aug. 25, 2013. They are 5-2 all-time in ACC home openers. The Cardinals own a 22-12-2 all-time record in season openers with this year’s 3-0 win at Mi-ami. Louisville has not lost a season opener in the last eight seasons with a 6-0-2 record. Fergu-son-Dayes owns a 15-5-1 record in season openers.

Ekic, Kouzelos Named Preseason All-ACCSenior midfielder Emina Ekic and redshirt senior goalkeeper Gabby Kouzelos have been selected to the 2020 Women’s Soccer Preseason All-ACC Team. Ekic was named All-ACC first team the last two seasons. She started all 20 matches a year ago and led the team with eight goals and eight assists. She recorded five game-winning goals, which ranked first on the team, third in the ACC, and 27th in the nation. Kouzelos was named All-ACC second team a season ago after starting all 20 matches. She concluded the year with a 13-5-2 record and led the team to 10 shutouts, ranking second in team history. She finished the season with a career-high 51 saves on the year and her 0.87 goals against average ranked second all-time in program history.

Louisville Picked 7th in ACC Preseason PollLouisville is picked seventh in the ACC preseason poll with 77 points, just two points shy of sixth-place Notre Dame (79) and nine points shy of fifth-place Clemson (86). North Carolina was voted the preseason favorite with eight first place votes, while Florida State was picked second and Virginia was picked third.

Lucky Number 13The Cardinals went 13-5-2 last season, which tied the second most wins in single season history. They also won 13 games in 2006 (13-4-3) and 2007 (13-6-2). They won a program-best 14 matches (14-7-3) in 2011. That season they also reached the third round of the NCAA Tournament with wins over Dayton (W, 2-0, at UofL) and No. 5 Memphis (W, 2-0, at Memphis). They fell 2-0 vs. No. 9 Florida State in the Round of 16 in Memphis, Tenn.

Back-to-Back NCAA TournamentsUofL is coming off of back-to-back trips to the NCAA Tournament. In 2018, they fell at Tennessee in the first round and last year they reached the second round with a win over Lipscomb. It marked the second time in program history that they have reached two straight NCAA Tourna-ments. They also reached back-to-back in 2006 and 2007.

L’Esperance Named FTF All-Canada Third TeamNadege L’Esperance was named First Touch Football (FTF) All-Canada Third Team. L’Esperance, a native of Candiac, Quebec, started all 19 games last season, recording an assist against Boston College. As a sophomore, she had three assists and a goal.

Ekic, Kouzelos Named Top Drawer Soccer Top 10University of Louisville senior midfielder Emina Ekic and redshirt senior goalkeeper Gabby Kouzelos were both named to Top Drawer Soccer’s Top 10 Lists.

Ekic Earns All-American HonorsLast season, Emina Ekic was named a second team All-American by the United Soccer Coaches As-sociation for the second straight year. She was one of 50 players named to the 2019 NCAA Division I Women’s All-America Teams. She became the seventh All-American in school history as a sophomore. She is the first Cardinal to earn back-to-back All-American honors since Joanna Haig in 2006 and 2007. She is the first Louisville player to earn second team honors, with the previous six selections earning third and fourth team honors.

KAREN FERGUSON-DAYES With 184 wins (184-162-37), Karen Ferguson-Dayes is the winningest coach in Louisville history. She took a struggling soccer program at the University of Louisville and molded it into a top-25 program. In 2000 when she was named the eighth head coach in program history, the situation that Ferguson-Dayes inherited with the Cardinals was the challenge of her career. The program has just one winning season in the previous 15 years. Nobody believed the process of turning the Louisville women’s soccer program into a winner is one that would occur overnight, but after three seasons at the helm, Ferguson-Dayes guided the Cardinals to their first winning season in 11 years with a 12-4 record in 2004. Ferguson-Dayes’ appointment and success here at Louisville has not gone unnoticed, she has guided the Cardinals to not only their first NCAA Tournament berth, but multiple trips and her teams continue to rewrite the record book year after year. She has also seen the Cardinals through the transition into the nation’s toughest soccer conference in the ACC and into their new state-of-the-art facility at Dr. Mark and Cindy Lynn Stadium. Last season the Cardinals finished fourth in the ACC with a record of 5-3-2, and made their sixth NCAA Championship appearance with an overall record of 13-5-2. The Cardinals finished the season ranked No. 25 in the United Soccer Coaches poll. In her playing career at UConn as a midfielder, she was named first team All-America in `91, `92 and `93. The Huskies were 63-24-3 during her four-year career and she tallied 53 points (18 goals and 17 assists.) A native of Holbrook, N.Y., and a graduate of Sachem High School, Ferguson-Dayes is married to Hylton Dayes and the couple has one son, Brandon.
