I also enjoyed vising during school me and seeing the school in acon. One of my friends menoned to me this week that you had also gone into her sons school to talk about CCC. Her son whos in year 5 was saying before your visit that he wanted to go to Burford, aſter your visit , he came home and said he wanted to go to Carterton Community College now, much to his mothers delight as she too has a boy in year 9 at CCC. So it seems your visit really made a difference and I thought you would like to know this. I do hope you can make more visits to other primary school to talk about CCC and the Great things you do there. It is also great to see the children looking smarter in their uniform. Students in Y7,8 and Vi form managed to learn the skills needed to carry out CPR. We also had some staff off training last week. Mr Scully and Mr Dorey are still in South Africa on the connecting classrooms staff development project. Mr Slater has been completing a school review in Luton as part of Challenge partners and alongside that Y11 have been on work experience all week. Staff have rallied round to cover these absences. We say goodbye to Mr Todd in English this term. We are currently advertising for an English teacher but in the meantime we welcome Mrs Dowling who has already met the staff and children and will be joining the team until at least Christmas. Next week the students get a chance to rest after a busy term however I would encourage parents of Y11 students AND Y13 students to revise, revise, revise. Dear Mr Booth, I wanted to let you know how impressed my husband and I were with the open evening and also when I my-self came to the open morning. I do already have a son at your school with another coming up next year. It was really great to see the teachers and children interacting with each other when I was looking around. I also enjoyed visiting during school time and seeing the school in action. One of my friends mentioned to me this week that you had also gone into her son’s school to talk about CCC. So it seems your visit really made a difference and I thought you would like to know this. I do hope you can make more visits to other primary school to talk about CCC and the Great things you do there. It is also great to see the children looking smarter in their uniform. As I say to my son, you should be proud to wear your uniform and look smart! Thank you for your time, Your Sincerely I wish you all and ,Mrs H in particular, a wonderful half term.

More Able Opportunities at CCC Term 2

Science: We currently training as a school for SSC

Bloodhound.

STEM challenge week in yr7&8 in the last week of this

term and again the week before Christmas.

Yr 10 MA/triple science trip to Bristol University’s

chemistry faculty.

We are also looking to take Yr10&11 MA students to a

Royal Society Christmas lecture or an Oxford Uni one.

DT: Yr8&9 MA will be invited to a Learners Lunch

(lunch will be provided for pupils and we will do an ac-

tivity to encourage profound questioning). Students

will then have an acknowledgment sticker in the Pass-

ports to show that they have been ‘trained’ to explore

deep and profound questioning in their DT work.

English: Competition time leading up to Christmas. MA

students will be invited to a writing workshop where

they will be able to demonstrate their flair for the Eng-

lish language and have their work judged by an exter-

nal publisher.

MFL: More information to follow on competition time

in term 2.

English On Friday P5, we decided to something different with Yr9 and they are now on a rotation working with different teachers on different skills. Here are some comments from teachers on what they were doing:

HO: I worked with 9x4 and they were using the Google Chrome laptops to research a topic of interest and then had to produce a presentation which taught the rest of the class.

JKC: One of the activities that we did was they had to catch a ball and say an interesting multi-syllabic word then pass onto someone else.

MC: 9x3 analysed the poem, “Education for Leisure” and made lots of perspective original points.

LT: 9x2 generated some really opinionated observations after having read about four real schools with very differ-ent school uniform policies. This was in the context of writing to argue. The challenge was to listen to another’s point of view without interruption.

Next Term in English:

Y7: ‘A Christmas Carol’, the importance of context

Y8: ‘Of Mice and Men’, the importance of culture and history

Y9: Paper 2 Language GCSE

Y10: ‘Romeo and Juliet’

Y11: Conflict and Power poetry

Tracey Harris

As part of a Federation of schools we often have the opportunity to meet people throughout our Federation who have the

needs of the pupils and families of CCSF at the heart of everything they do. Tracey Harris of CPS is one of those people and

unfortunately for us but positively for Tracey she is moving on. In her email to all Federated staff she said this.

CPS has, and always will be incredibly special to me. I attended the school from 1977-1984 (yes, I'm old!!) my two daughters had an excellent primary education here from 2002-2012 and all through that time I've held the school very dearly in my heart.

We've been told we're a GOOD school in the eyes of Ofsted but I really believe we're a GREAT school- just 'because we care!' The children at CPS always have and always will be the reason I loved my job so much and they are now in great hands!

Thank you so much for all of the support, kind words and inspiration that you've given me during my journey. Thank you also

for my beautiful gifts, flowers, vouchers and cards. Please don't lose touch

Many Thanks Tracey-Good luck in your new role.
