The Kestrel 20 th September 2019 Autumn Issue No. 3 Langenhoe School & Preschool Langenhoe Community Primary School fully complies with information legislation For the full details on how we use your personal information please go to the website and look at our Privacy Notice http://langenhoeprimaryschool.com/privacy/or call 01206 735267 if you are unable to access the internet. Our Wildlife Area has been dedicated to Jean Howell, a former school Governor who sadly passed away in 2017. Being a former teacher Jean had a passion for Science and Outdoor Learning. After supporting a class in the Wildlife Area Jean was keen to get this fantastic learning resource here at Langenhoe school accessible again. Therefore with the support of Mrs Stevenson we have been keen to make outdoor learning a part of our curriculum and have put one day aside each year to ensure we keep this learning resource available to the children. To make this day successful we need as many volunteers as possible. We invite parents to our Wildlife Area to support us in its upkeep, cutting back plants and giving it a general tidy. Each class is given a slot (please see page 2) to come down and help too, meaning you can enjoy this time with your children. Parents are more than welcome to join us the time their child is in the Wildlife Area or for the whole day. If you are joining us for the day you are welcome to have a school dinner or bring your own lunch and please do not forget your gardening tools! This will be a non-uniform day for all children so send them in appropriate clothing and footwear please. Last year was a real success, we had a fantastic response from both the children and parents. It really had the Wildlife Area ready for the year! Thanks for your support. Ellie Cummins, our preschool apprentice, has completed

her 3 year Level 3 nursery teacher course at the end of

September. Ellie has been exceptional, winning an

award at Essex University and is loved by all the

preschool children. She will be dearly missed by all the

staff here at Langenhoe School and as a former student

we are very proud of her. We wish her all the best with

her job at Little Doves Nursery. Ellie’s final day is Friday

27th September. We wish her well in the future!

Mrs Cutmore started Choir Club this

week where the children enjoyed

learning vocal warm ups and songs

such as ‘Happy’. There are currently 4

spaces remaining, so if you would like

your child to join, please speak to the

school office.

All homework has been e-mailed to parents and uploaded onto school website. Reception children do not have homework this half term.

There is a vacancy for a Parent Governor at Langenhoe School. If you are interested in

this position please complete the necessary forms which were e-mailed out to you

yesterday. If you have any questions please come and talk to Mrs Stevenson or Mrs

Lauwery’s. Many thanks.

Year 6 to 7 secondary admission round for September 2020 The new secondary school admission round opens on Thursday, 12 September 2019, for parents of current Year 6 children to apply for a secondary school (Year 7) place for September 2020. The statutory national closing date for applications is 31st October 2019. Applications can be made online via www.essex.gov.uk/admissions. 98% of parents in Essex applied online last year. As with last year, Essex County Council are not sending letters to parents about making an application. All of the application information is available on the website above. The website also has a copy of the Secondary Education in Essex 2020-21 booklet which contains details of all secondary school admission policies.

This year we are collecting food donations for harvest to

donate to Colchester Food Bank.

Many thanks to those of you who have already donated

items. The last day for donations is Monday 23rd

September.

Langenhoe School has supported this worthy local charity

which helps people in crisis for many years and they are so grateful for our donations.

Reception Parents Only: Many of you have already paid your Cinderella money prior to September. The school cash office system does not allow this to be recorded because of Year End not being completed until August and your child does not appear on the school system until they start school in September. Therefore please IGNORE the

Cinderella payment on your SCO Pay Tucasi account IF YOU HAVE ALREADY PAID. The school office has added a note to the system but cannot add your payment as all Cinderella Reception money was banked back in July. This is the first time our school is attending the pantomime, so we have not encountered this problem before. Many thanks for your understanding.

At Langenhoe Primary School and Pre-school we are lucky enough to have fantastic grounds and wildlife area. Therefore each class is able to partake in outdoor learning once a week. This means that we will need children to bring in clothing that will make it possible to access the areas regardless of weather conditions. Unfortunately we do not have the storage space to keep these items in school permanently. We have therefore created a timetable for each class from this week as follows:

Class 2: Friday

Class 3: Wednesday

Class 4: Thursday

Class 5: Tuesday

PLEASE REMEMBER TO SEND IN WITH YOUR CHILD BECAUSE OFFICE STAFF DO NOT HAVE THE TIME TO PHONE PARENTS WHO FORGET ITEMS.

Early years already have suitable clothing in school to use. Items to bring will include: • Waterproof jacket • Boots or old trainers • Old clothing (tracksuit bottoms and a long-sleeved top • Hat (appropriate for the weather) Please feel free to talk to any of the teaching staff if you have any questions.
