The words Thank You do not seem adequate enough to expess how we feel for all the love, prayers, support and donations that were received for the benefit of our daughter and granddaughter Sydney Kresconko. It is when times are tough that you realize the good people you have around to help you get through these difficult times.
We want to thank the businesses, organizations and people of the North Collins and surrounding communities that helped or donated in any way to make this event successful. Your generosity and kindness are appreciated and will be remembered in our prayers.
God Bless You, The Kresconko, Petrus and Loretto Families

EDEN SENIOR ATTENDS PRESIDENTIAL INAUGURATION IN WASHINGTON, D.C.
Kristin Howie, a senior at Eden Jr./Sr. High School, at-tended the 57th inauguration of the United States Presi-dent. Kristin, an alumni of the National Youth Leader-ship Forum on Law and CSI, was invited to attend High School Presidential Inaugural Conference. She travelled to Washington, D.C. to be part of this historic event Janu-ary 19th-23rd, 2013. There, she met up with high school students from across the country. While in Washington, D.C., Kristin heard from two compelling speakers, Alex Shriver, National Chairman of the College Republican National Committee and Tori Taylor, National President of the College Democrats of America. Both provided insight into their election cam-paign strategies and invaluable information on how to be a leader. Each day, the group participated in Presidential Group Meetings. They discovered the many critical roles filled by the President, including Chief, Executive, Commander in Chief, Political Party Leader and Diplomat. They also explored Presidential Campaigns, roles of staff members and cabinet, as well as strategies that can be used to com-municate their platforms. Keynote speaker, Dr. Condoleezza Rice, former US Secretary of State and National Security Advisor, spoke to the group. She provided an insider’s perspective on the American Presidency. Another distinguished keynote speaker, General Wesley Clark (retired) spoke of explor-ing leadership on and off the battlefield. Kristin was also able to enjoy a private viewing of All The President’s Men, followed by a panel discussion with renowned Washington Post reporter, Bob Woodward, and veteran journalist, Nick Clooney. On Inauguration Day, Kristin was at the center of the world stage as the nation welcomed back the 44th Presi-dent of the United States, Barack Obama. Kristin took part in American history as she witnessed the inaugura-tion firsthand on the Nation’s Mall. After the swearing in ceremony, the high school senior attended a special view-ing part of the President and First Lady’s travel from the Capitol down Pennsylvania Ave. to the White House. The trip also included exciting entertainment. Kris-tin enjoyed music and political satire performed by The Capitol Steps, a private concert with special guest Allstar Weekend, all topped off with Gala Inaugural Celebration Ball held at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Mu-seum. Kristin is the daughter of Larry and Judy Howie, of Eden. She plans to attend Nazareth College in the fall to study Political Science.

EDEN CUB SCOUTS 2ND ANNUAL RAINGUTTER REGATTA
The Eden Cub Scout Pack 603 Raingutter Regatta took place on Saturday, January 26th, 2013 at the Eden United Methodist Church. More than 35 Cub Scouts participated in this exciting event. The boats are raced in a 10 foot gutter, placed on a table and filled to the top with water. The boats are propelled by blowing on the sail, either directly or through a straw. The boat cannot be touched with hands or the straw and the first boat to reach the end of the gutter is the winner.First Place winners in each Den were Tiger-Joseph Reed, Wolf-Peter Mroz, Bear-John Vicario, Webelo I- Noah Brosnick and Webelo II-Jack Campbell. All the boys had a lot of fun racing their boats down the gutter. They designed the boats and worked with a parent to build it. They learned craft skills, rules of fair play and good sportsmanship. Something they will remember all their life.
NC ELEMENTARY SCHOOL FAMILY NIGHT North Collins Elementary School PTA sponsored Fam-ily Fitness Night on January 17, 2013. The event was coordinated by our Physical Education teachers, Katie Shelley and Paul Kellner, and the event had approximate-ly 80 in attendance. There were many fun events that took place such as tug of war contest students verse adults and the students were victorious. A scooter/sleigh race was held that featured the parents being pulled by the students as they sit on the scooters and hung on. The event had basketball, floor hockey, Wii Dance Station, Bowling, hula hoop and fun for all. Health snacks of apples, clem-entines and bottled water was provided by the PTA. Many of the equipment items used during Family Fit-ness Night had been purchased or earned by the PTA through its various collection programs and fundraising program. Our Labels for Education program had allowed the PTA to obtain a scooter, tug of war rope and various balls used at the event. Please continue to collect these and turn them in at our school, Save-A-Lot, North Collins Senior Center or the North Collins Library. Please mark your calendars for our next family movie night on March 8th.
