St. George, Jr.; mother of the late An-thony III, John (Cathy), James (Jean) St. George, Carolyn (Steven Bender) St. George; sister of Betty (James Schmitt) Smith and late John (Barbara) Kelly; grandmother of eight, great-grandmother of three; aunt of three nieces and nephews. WHEREAS, he has held a variety of leadership positions in the Eden Fire Company including Chief (1978-1980) and President (1993-1995, 2001-present); and WHEREAS, he has served the Company at critical times including Building Committee in 1974, New Truck Committee, as well as the Company’s Policy Committee; and

WHEREAS, he has become known as the “Corn Man” because of his long involvement with the Company’s corn stands at the Eden Corn Festival; and

WHEREAS, his active participation in the Company’s Annual Fund Drive, as well as the Chicken Barbecue has been duly noted; and WHEREAS, he has distinguished himself for these 50 years in general in service to the community of Eden.

NOW BE IT RESOLVED, that the Eden Town Board and myself, as Town Supervisor, join with Ron’s fellow firemen and the greater community of Eden in congratulating Ron for his 50 years of service.

WE FURTHER RESOLVE that June 1, 2012 will be designated “Ron Salzman” Day in the Town of Eden in recognition of his 50 years of service.

The Laing Funeral Home Inc., 2724 West Church Street in Eden, NY has teamed up with the York Children’s Foundation in support of a grant awarded by the Foundation to Child and Family Services of Erie County. The Foundation has made this grant to Child & Family Services in sup-port of the Laing Funeral Home’s community support of the local organization for a therapeutic playground project planned by Child & Family Services at their Conners Children’s Center in Buffalo. The York Children’s Foundation awards grants to community-based children’s causes, and has contributed over $2.2 million to charities serving children across the country. The Foundation is funded by the Matthews Casket Division with whom the locally-based Laing Funeral Home is affiliated. This most generous grant will support a specially de-signed sensory integration playground being planned by Child & Family Services for the therapeutic treat-ment of children in resi-dential care at the Conners Children’s Center. These children ages 6 to 14 require specialized ccare because many of them have been repeatedly traumatized re-sulting in their need for care away from their homes. “The children living at Conners Children’s Center face a multitude of chal-lenges because of their intense emotional and be-havioral problems resulting from the severe trauma they

have endured during their young lives. We are most appreciative of the Laing Funeral Home’s sponsor-ship of our grant request to the Foundation in sup-port of this important proj-ect. Our goal is to providea therapeutic play environ-ment for imaginative and active types of play experi-ences which are so vital to the recovery of children in our organization’s care”, said Rosanne Wisniewski, Child and Family Services’ Grants Coordinator. Child & Family Services is one of the largest, private, not-for-profit family ser-vice agencies in the nation, and has provided innova-tive programming since 1873. The agency’s mission is to strengthen families and promote the well-being of children through preven-tion, intervention, educa-tion and advocacy. Through over 30 programs and ser-vices, the agency strives to meet the needs and impart brighter futures for Western New York children and their families.
