    8/8

Research in DIT addresses key issues of national and global strategic importance. Together our

researchers and graduate students are developing innovative solutions to next generation problems and

translating their research into the development of new products, processes and policies. They have already

invented new diagnostic tests for cancer; anti-bacterial surface materials; mobile phone applications; metal-

based anticancer compounds; novel financial risk management tools; conducted empirical research to

support new policy interventions in early childcare education and much, much more. Our

commercialisation rate for research is 10 times that of National, International and European universities.

    The four key areas are:

Environment and Health (including energy, sustainability, environment, food, radiation and medical

    technologies)

Information and Media Technologies (including communications, computational analysis and digital media)

New Materials and Technologies (including nanotechnology, photonics, surface materials and corrosion,

    and holographic and interferometric techniques)

Social, Culture and Enterprise (including youth, justice, education, entrepreneurship, creative arts and media)
