Salzburg‘s Christkindl market is world-famous! The Salzburg Christkindl market has been named the fourth best destination for Christmas excursions twice in the last few years by CNN.

We hope you have lots of fun during your visit to Salzburg’s Christkindl market!

In the festive mood through Advent.Our most popular events:

• Daily: Choir and wind section performances in front of the cathedral. Harmonious Christmas carols, Salzburg and international choirs. At 5.00 pm and Sat/Sun at 3.00 pm and 5.00 pm.

• Every Advent Saturday: Christmas reading for young and old. After the reading the Christ Child raffles Christmas books. Supported by www.kulturzentrum-stjakob.at From 4.30 pm onwards. (1st Advent Saturday 3.30 pm)

The Christ Child is coming. The Original Salzburg Christ Child with her 4 angels will appear at the market. From 5.30 pm onwards. (1st Advent Saturday 4.30 pm)

Traditional Salzburg „Turmblasen“ (trumpet fanfares) A unique ambiance suffuses the Residenzplatz when 3 towers emit Christmas sounds. From 6.30 pm onwards.

• Thursday 5 December: Krampus run. Things can get very wild! A quaint old custom, which always leaves a lasting impression! From 7.00 pm onwards.

• Friday 6 December: Nikolaus and the Krampus come to the children. Nikolaus arrives, accompanied by his Krampus – an attraction not only for those who’ve been good. From 3.30 pm onwards.

• Saturday 21 December: The run by the beautiful and ugly Perchten. The eerily beautiful run of the wild Perchten. 2013: From 7.00 pm onwards. 2014: From 5.30 pm onwards.

Yuletide in the City of Mozart …… is when Salzburg’s Christmas market opens its gates. The exhibi-tors’ traditional huts with their diverse product ranges all gather together at the foot of the Hohen-salzburg Fortress and around the time-honoured cathedral.

More than 400 years of tradition.What began as a simple bric-a-brac market in front of the Salzburg Domplatz, developed into one of the most famous advent markets in Europe during the 17th century. The former “Nikolaimarkt“ ultimately became Salzburg’s Christmas market, in its current unmistakable form, in 1972.

Objects of beauty, fine gourmet treats …Beneath the unique “starry sky“ you can find tradi-tional arts and crafts, festive Christmas ornaments, decorative items and toys of the type that are hard to find anywhere else nowadays.

It’s easy to get the urge there to treat not just your-self but others too! The age-old custom of giving presents to beloved and cherished people on Christ-mas Eve can be enjoyed to the full here. Those loo-king for a special something will definitely find it in Salzburg’s Christmas market.
