ENGINEER COMPANY 212th FROM THE COMMANDER The Soldiers of the 212 th Engineer Com- pany continue their hard-charging construc- tion and maintenance work here in Kuwait. Something else they continue to do is carry on the most well known legacy of our great state. The Army calls it “selfless service”; Tennesseans call it “volunteering”; the 212 th calls it “the right way to do business.” Allow me to point out a few of the many examples I’ve seen just in the past few weeks: Our outstanding maintenance section has logged many hours servicing and repair- ing the equipment of other units within the battalion. Their efforts have helped maxi- mize the use of equipment on engineer job sites all over Kuwait. Great work, SFC Tommy Webb and team! You are, literally and figuratively, keeping our wheels turning! SPC John Hoit in Headquarters Platoon makes a habit out of getting to work early and staying late. He can always be counted on to go above and beyond the call of duty, no matter what his assignment, and he is the perfect example of putting others above self as a daily habit. As one small example, SPC Hoit worked on a Saturday that other Soldiers had as time off. Why? So those Soldiers could receive their mail. An- other example? SPC Hoit chose to walk to and from the chow hall so that a Sol- dier who was a prior heat casualty would have a seat on an air-conditioned vehicle. And there are many more examples I could relate. Thank you, SPC Hoit, for always doing the right thing, even when it’s not much fun. First Platoon’s SGT Melody Stephens has been noticed several times assisting Soldiers in completing Structured Self- Development (SSD) courses and helping them apply for college courses to further their civilian education. She not only gives of her time to help her teammates, but she also continually exudes a positive attitude. Her perpetual smile and bright outlook are contagious, and her willing- ness to help others makes me proud to wear the same combat patch she does. ENGINEER COMPANY 212th

FROM THE COMMANDER The Soldiers of the 212th Engineer Com-

pany continue their hard-charging construc-

tion and maintenance work here in Kuwait.

Something else they continue to do is carry

on the most well known legacy of our great

state. The Army calls it “selfless service”; Tennesseans call it “volunteering”; the 212th

calls it “the right way to do business.” Allow

me to point out a few of the many examples

I’ve seen just in the past few weeks: Our outstanding maintenance section

has logged many hours servicing and repair-

ing the equipment of other units within the

battalion. Their efforts have helped maxi-

mize the use of equipment on engineer job

sites all over Kuwait. Great work, SFC

Tommy Webb and team! You are, literally

and figuratively, keeping our wheels turning! SPC John Hoit in Headquarters Platoon

makes a habit out of getting to work early

and staying late. He can always be counted

on to go above and beyond the call of duty, no matter what his assignment, and he is the

perfect example of putting others above self

as a daily habit. As one small example, SPC

Hoit worked on a Saturday that other

Soldiers had as time off. Why? So those

Soldiers could receive their mail. An-

other example? SPC Hoit chose to walk

to and from the chow hall so that a Sol-

dier who was a prior heat casualty would have a seat on an air-conditioned vehicle.

And there are many more examples I

could relate. Thank you, SPC Hoit, for

always doing the right thing, even when

it’s not much fun. First Platoon’s SGT Melody Stephens

has been noticed several times assisting

Soldiers in completing Structured Self-

Development (SSD) courses and helping

them apply for college courses to further

their civilian education. She not only

gives of her time to help her teammates,

but she also continually exudes a positive

attitude. Her perpetual smile and bright

outlook are contagious, and her willing-

ness to help others makes me proud to

wear the same combat patch she does.

FROM THE COMMANDER

(Continued) Second Platoon’s Jedi-in-Charge,

1LT Albritton, took some time

away from the worksites assigned

to his platoon to assist with con-

crete operations at another pla-

toon’s job site. This is not the first

time the unit has relied on his tech-

nical expertise. Thanks, LT, for

lending a hand and leading the way! Third Platoon’s SPC John Wood

can be seen hanging out with a few

dozen of his closest Camp AJ

friends each week at the Zone 6

Stage. Seems he and his battle bud-

dies volunteered to lead the weekly

karaoke events, DJ-ing and giving all

the Soldiers at Arifjan one more

way to relax and wind down after a

hard week’s work. SPC Wood has

also been seen at the gym after

hours, assisting some of his fellow

Soldiers with their fitness routines

and working hard to ensure all of

his teammates pass that next Army

Physical Fitness Test! Thanks, SPC

Wood, for representing the 212th

well and using your talents to help

others. There are many other members

of the 212th Engineer Company who

show their VOLUNTEER spirit each

day. I can’t thank you enough.

Your daily thoughtfulness and acts

of kindness are appreciated by more

than just the folks you are helping at

the time. They lift us all up. They

show us that we can count on each

other, they make us all walk a little

taller because we’re on the same

team with you, and they let every-

one out there know that our unit’s

motto, “Build It Up”, applies to

more than just general construction.

Y’all are THE BEST!

TENNESSEE HITMEN WHEN THE WORK DAY IS DONE, SOLDIERS FROM THE 212TH HAVE FOUND OTHER WAYS TO STAY ACTIVE AND BUSY. HERE AT CAMP ARIFJAN SPORTS ARE A BIG PART OF THE EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES OF-

FERED. SOLDIERS FROM ALL OVER THE COMPANY CAME TOGETHER TO FORM UP A SOFTBALL TEAM TO PLAY IN LEAGUES AND TOURNAMENTS AROUND THE CAMP, AND EVEN THOSE SOLDIERS NOT PLAYING HAVE MADE

THE EFFORTS TO COME OUT AND SUPPORT OUR TEAM.
